Favorite lyrics, this just adds to the deepness to the love he feels for the girl...I don't think it's just a figure of speech, though, I think he actually is depressed enough about the break-up to actually carve her name in to his wrist, it seems to suit the mood of the song perfectly.

It sounds like a report of an airline attempting a landing during a snowstorm in Chicago, and the plane collides with a Southwest Airlines jet, then with some sort of vehicle being hit afterwards. Someone ends up dying in the whole mess.
