This song is clearly about cancer but I believe it also has a deeper meaning.

In the first verse, it is obvious he is talking about his eventual death. However, we're not enteriely sure if he IS going to die. Infact the first verse tells the listener that he has already given up, he can't take the pain of chemotherapthy (makes you really weak). When he sings "I will not kiss you" he means that he doesn't want anything to reember you with, because if he kisses her now, he has something to regret and he won't be able to move on (in life or death) with closure. Cause he knows he's going to leave her, so he doesn't want to put any strain on her.

In the second verse, he is telling her not to look at him, to pity him, to feel sad for him. Because he's nothing what he was before, he is now a blank slate, nothign distinguising him from other people, other than that he is nothing.

In the third and final verse he is telling her, that if she decides to leave her or vice-versa that she should go before what he believes what will be the end for him. And that he doesn't want her to change her mind, because it would only cause more complications when she comes and they (or she) let their emotions out, making their or her final moments together sad and full of sorrow. He wants to fade from the world without affecting the people he loves.

So the song sums up to the death of a person, he wants to disconnect himself from the rest of ther world so that when he believes he is dead, noone will be needlessly affected. But in reality, he doesn't want to, he wants them to remember him, he wants to live. But he believes, or he is (We'll stick with that) going to die and there's no way to stop it from happening. Great song, though the rhythm may be recycled, though I don't see it as so; it's a fabulous song!

this is the only song tht makes me cry, i dont really know why. i mean ive heard other songs like it, but this..just makes me so sad. ive had cancer twice, and it actually makes me feel happy when i hear it kinda. he describes it so well how ive felt and sometimes still feel its so amazing.

The Patient slows down from his rampaging attitude from "House of Wolves" and goes through a series of chemos. He softens up and prepares everyone for his death, setting up everything accepting defeat. The chemo has taken all his hair, and he looks like a mess due to the cancer. He tells them that he will not kiss them because leaving them is the hardest part and he can't bring himself to do it.

this song is so moving it had me in floods.
i first heard it the day my nan found out she had cancer. shes going thru chemo now and it breaks me to see her.
ive already lost my grandad because of it and i think gerards lyrics are amazing.
i love this song and it never fails to make me cry

I cry EVERY time i listen to this song-its just sad when it says "bury me in all my favourite colours" and "the hardest part of death is leaving you" and "cause all my hairs abandoned all my body,all my agony.know that i will never mary.Baby i'm just soggy from the chemo and counting down the days to go" ( cause their obviosly counting down the days to death)

Really sad song; makes my cry everytime I hear it.
tho it' about cancer it reminds me of my grandfather who died last year ( not because of cancer) and he knew he was gonna die ( like, only 2 weeks before he died ) and well, he accepted it, but he said something like the ''cause the hardest part of this is leaving you' part; so that's why it makes me cry

So yeah, in my eyes it's not only a song about cancer, but just knowing you are going to die, and accept it, but still it's hard to leave your friends and family.

And I just hope you know
that if you say
goodbye today
I'd ask you to be true

yeah, again, everyone who's had a family member or friend who was about to die could relate to that; just the fact that you don't know if you'll ever see that person alive again

yeah, I know it may have nothing to do with the meaning of the lyrics, but that's just what it means to me.

okay, for all of you people who are being such fucking assholes about mcr, stfu. this is a really meaningful song & you don't have to ruin it by say "mcr sucks" & such... if you hate mcr and think they suck, then keep it to yourself. us fans of my chemical romance, don't care about hearing that you hate it. it's just your loss.

this sorta reminds me of the mellon collie era smashing pumpkins... everyone thought they were gone (just as everyone thought there wouldnt be another my chemical romance song), but billy came back with mellon collie and he too learned to play the piano... this is the first time i heared a piano mcr song

I think this song is pretty self explanitory.
Everytime I hear this song, I automatically think of my husband, who had lung cancer back in 04. He has since beaten it, thank god. But everytime I hear this song, i cry my eyes out...I love mcr and I love this song...even though it makes me sad :)

For some reason, when I hear the piano, I think of Beautiful by Christina Aguilera.. Then I listened to both tonight, ehh, kind of similar.. hahaha.
