Lyrics for Cancer as interpreted by deathb4birth

Cancer Lyrics
Turn away
If you could get me a drink, of water
'cause my lips are chapped and faded
call my aunt marie
help her gather all my things
and bury me in all my favorite colors
my sisters and my brothers still
I will not kiss you
'cause the hardest part of this
is leaving you

Now turn away
'cause i'm awful just to see
'cause all my hairs abandoned all my body
oh my agony
know that i will never marry
baby i'm just soggy from the chemo
but counting down the days to go
It just ain't living
And I just hope you know
that if you say
goodbye today
I'd ask you to be true
'cause the hardest part of this is leaving you
'cause the hardest part of this is leaving you

im sorry, but your lyrics are absolutely atrocious.
you've got the first part right, up until
"i will not kiss you"
then, it goes.
"Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you,
now turn away,
cause im aweful just to see,
cause all my hairs abandoned all my body,
Oh, my agony,
know that i will never marry,
baby, im just soggy from the chemo,
but countin down the days to go,
it just aint livin,
and i just hope you know,
that if you say,
goodbye today,
i'd ask you to be true,
cause the hardest part of this is leaving you,
cause the hardest part of this is leaving you.
-lyrics from the my chemical romance the black parade limited edition booklet. thank youu.

I cant listen to this song without crying. My mum died of cancer 3 months ago... so i feel i can really relate to this message. I send out love for everybody else who has had to suffer like me!
The imagry of "hairs abandoning my body" and "the hardest part of this is leaving you" remind me so much of her. But alot of this is good as i dont really remember her suffering persay, but how much she loved me and my brother... and never wanted to leave us really...
This song is so powerful... one of their best!!!

what I love about this is that they didn't use any metaphors or make it in a sense that you have to really analyze it to get the meaning.
It's to the point, they're talking about cancer.
By doing that, they make people understand it just by hearing the song for the first time, and it's really touching.
"Cause the hardest part of death is leaving you" is probably the best line in the song.

it seems a lot of people commenting on all the songs off black parade, are really keen to bag chemical romance, why such hostility, i just got into them, due to my obsession with g-day, and it seems like they are what they claim to be, so if u didn't like the video of black parade, why come in here and actually comment, u prob just jealous that these guys are making something of their lives, and have the guts to write such confronting stuff

cancer can also be a metaphor for addiction. and the patient is meant to meet characters along the way, such as mama, so maybe cancer is the story of a cancer patient, now THE PATIENT. just a thought

I assume, septimusphoenix, you meant "not the patient"

which I completely agree with

I wrote my interpretation in another comment, but that kind of got overshadowed by a bunch condescending people insulting this song,

but essentially, I'd say that "the" patient is brought back from the rage of the previous song by the sight of another character, namely this cancer patient, whom I envision as a small, innocent child.

This character's story then enfolds before us, and its done in such a way that almost anyone can relate to it.

this song seems to be the start of a series of encounters with other people, like the solidiers in mama, perhaps a troubled soul who was consumed by nightmares and commited suicide (or something like that, I'm still debating the storyline in 'sleep') and a victim of teen gang violence.

im not so sure how the storyline from "sleep" fits in with the rest of the album, but i can tell you what it's about. in the limited edition of the black parade, gerard talks about a period of making the record, when they were all suffering from depression and stuff, when he would just lie in bed and envision people he knows dying, and such. he described these as, not tremors, but more % s." which, if you listen closely to the beginning, is what the guy is talking about, and the rest has something to do with that. so im not sure if this is really a part of the story, or more just a song about them and what it took to make this album.

A very sad song =(

Whoever this person is (The Patient or someone else) who's suffering from cancer, wants to be just like anyone else, to marry the person he loves. But he knows he's dying and he'll never be able to do all that. The thing that sadden him the most about his death is losing her...

It's not aunt marie. It's "Admiree". As in, someone who admires him.
Aunt Marie. Pshaw. No. o_O
Also, it should say "baby, I'm just SOGGY from the chemo", not Sogin. wtf. xD
Wonderful song. =D

Alot of people taking this album the wrong way. I just fell into the MCR groove last year based on the potential of 3 cheers. They could either get better or worse.
You see... punk rock is just rhe basis for what these are doing, it is not the end of their growth but the beginning. Anybody who bought the Life on the Murder Scene DVD new that they were refining their style and damn it, they pulled it off with class (or as much clas as RNR will permit!)
These guys just get better and better at what they envision themselves doing!
This song is awesome. The melody actually kinda reminds me of that Jet song "Look what You've Done" which was definately a tribute to the style of the Beatles, which is what they seem to be doing here. Gerard lists the Beatles as an influence to this album, and they twist it their own way. A guy saying goodbye to his family and friends while he waits for his inevitable death. That is what I imagine to be the hardest part of cancer, lashing out because you can't help but be angry and sad, hoping that they understand and still love you, wishing for the perfect funeral (cause they will never marry)
This song kills me by "favorite colours"
I am not a wuss, this song is freaking powerful, awesome and relateable, cause no matter how bad things are in my world, at least I'm not the patient.

This song is so true of what a person with cancer might say- often the person has become more selfless as a result of their disease. They don't want to see their loved ones hurt and that is why they say to turn away. Also, when a person knows they are to die they are likely to say all the things that were tough or awkward to say before- meaning "the hardest part of death is leaving you".
Also, I can tell it would speak to a young person dying of cancer, hence the "I know I will never marry"... it's basically thinking how you will never live an average life, with college, marriage, possibly children, growing old and dying in your 70s or 80s. It's a depressing thought, not being able to write your own history by living it. But that's all the reason to make the time you have already to be the best it can be.

this song is so powerful. my friend just recently found out that he has cancer, and he's only 15 years old.. and it was a terrible hard hit on me.

everytime i hear this song, i think of him and how the doctors say he barely has a chance..

amazing song, lyrically, and i believe it perfectly describes having cancer, and the feeling of watching yourself [or someone you love] die..

they made a good decision in the title too. hard hitting, just like it is when a doctor tells you that you have cancer.

this song is just so... sad. but powerful, too. i totally agree with you neongreen44, but i think it ties in a lot with 'the Patient' and how he is diagnosed with cancer and even though the girl he loves "will never marry" him, it's so hard for him to leave her (in death) and "cause im awful just to see/cause all my hairs abandoned all my body" is just so.. depressing because he's ashamed of the girl seeing him so defenseless and sick.
this song is really touching, especially to people who have or have had family members lost to cancer...

anyway, that's my interpretation.

Now, I haven't gone through every comment but I have noticed that a lot of ppl are saying its "recycled" and I find the melody to be kinda like "look what you've done" by Jet, just listen to it and tell me you don;t hear it in those beginning seconds in both songs BUT I'm not saying this is a bad song, but I am saying that w/ the millions and millions of songs out there, there are bound to not all sound different

These are the correct lyrics:

Turn Away,
If you could get me a drink of water
Cause my lips are chapped and faded
Call my aunt Marie
help her gather all my things
and bury me in all my favourite colors
my sisters and my brothers
still, I will not kiss you
Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you

Now Turn Away
cause I’m awful just to see
cause all my hairs abandoned all my body
Oh my agony
know that I will never marry
baby I’m just Soggy from the chemo
and counting down the days to go

its just aint Livin
and I just hope you know
that if you say
goodbye today
I'd ask you to be true
Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you
A woohaho
Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you

i hate mcr i think they should actualy get cancer instead of just pretending they do, there fasion statement are all horriby tasteless and the fact they can write a song entitled cancer with no real meaning other than OMG if you done got cnacer them you am gonna die a realy sad death is awfull, if ya gonna write a song bout it shouldnt it be comforting to those who suffer from it, or know people who have
