Lyrics for Cancer as interpreted by deathb4birth

Cancer Lyrics
Turn away
If you could get me a drink, of water
'cause my lips are chapped and faded
call my aunt marie
help her gather all my things
and bury me in all my favorite colors
my sisters and my brothers still
I will not kiss you
'cause the hardest part of this
is leaving you

Now turn away
'cause i'm awful just to see
'cause all my hairs abandoned all my body
oh my agony
know that i will never marry
baby i'm just soggy from the chemo
but counting down the days to go
It just ain't living
And I just hope you know
that if you say
goodbye today
I'd ask you to be true
'cause the hardest part of this is leaving you
'cause the hardest part of this is leaving you

Excellent song, I must say if you really get into it you'd end up crying or at least shedding a tear. The lyrics are perfect, not overwrought nor simple, I think they really felt this one out.

Hey B12 I gave Arch enemy a shot and I loved the rhytms but the vocals are just gross and unlistenable..

And about this song, you should really listen to it and think about anyone that has been through this and realize how good is it. With raw lyrics and plus Gerard's voice to give the final touch, its 10x better than if you'd put a professional singer to it, because its flaws make it better, not worse.

My grandma is dying of cancer.

That's why they wrote this song. The way it ties into the story is that the Black Parade takes the patient, who has a heart condition, to see someone who's really suffering. It makes him realize that his life isn't as bad as he thought, he could be suffering like this person.

I just love the song because I can just listen to it and I can cry. I can sympathize. That's what MCR intended, and that's why it's so good.

this is a profoundly amazing song, with emotional depth that millions can relate to.

as for the manner in which it ties into the story, I see it a little something like this.

Cancer, is proceeded by House of Wolves, which can be very angry, as if the patient is raging against himself in the depths of purgatory.

At one given moment, he turns and see's another character, possibly the gas-masked woman from the WtTBP video, although I see him/her as an innocent child, with an ambient aura about him/her, in a hospital gown and lacking hair.

At this moment, the Patient realizes how foolish/selfish he was during House of Wolves, and is overcome with regret and sadness at the sight of the cancer patient, whose story then begins to unfold here.

granted, the lyrics play out as though the narrator is an adult who is most regretful at the fact that they cannot be with their lover.

however, I still believe that an innocent child captures the horror that is death from cancer best, as they have yet to experience life and their death is the greatest blow to society.

T4Y10R,

Your Myspace says you killed yourself in August.

Which makes you either:

1) A person who pretends to be dead people.

2) A person who pretends to kill themselves.

3) A person who pretends to kill themselves and then pretends to have cancer.

In any event, I found your comment one of the most offensive things I've ever read.

"What does this song mean to you??"

Good question Mr. Comment Box:

I could go with the popular answer:

a. oh-em-gee, MCR(the cool way to write it) is like ..so totally hotttttttttttt(insert even more t's) this song is sooo good! its so deep.....!!!

orrrr...the "piss people off answer"

b. I used to like this band, and I am now really curious as to why...

they suck, the other cd(which i thought had good lyrics at the time, wrong.) sucked also. this one sucks even more. it's nothing more than generic recycled garbage. I mean, recycling melodies is okay. but at least COME UP WITH YOUR OWN AND DONT RECYCLE A WHOLE GENRE WORTH OF MELODIES.

at least on the last album, there was a cool intro on Thanks for the Venom. this album...nothing. lyrically, the music can't get any simpler. go back and look at the other album...is it still as deep and complex as you thought? look at Give em' hell kid...is it really that interesting now?
NO!
and if you cry at these lyrics..my god. you're a pansy....

it isn't even all that sad. he doesn't put enough..care into the song..
it shows, to me at least.
so in short. F**k MCR.
they suck...go listen to something worthwhile...lyrically: dashboard, say anything...etc.

musically:Bullet for my valentine(i doubt you'd like many of the harder bands than that if you listen to MCR.), even atreyu for christs sake

Oh, go fuck yourself guys. This song doesn't mean ANYTHING. It's just another shitty band trying to capture another shitty audience with ANOTHER SHITTY SONG.

Get over yourself, crawl out of your little fucking hole, shave your head and drink your goddamn milk.

After this song, I'm hoping Gerard knows someone who died from Cancer.

Not hoping people have Cancer, but hearing all these people relate to this song. Would have sucked if he wrote it for kicks, don't you think?

Anyway, I hate this song because it sounds recycled. Great bands don't need to recycle.

And to the fool that said shit about RHCP. Counting how much songs they actually have, California only appears in a small fraction.

Btw, I hate how all of the comments here say "My ____ had cancer", "I cried when I heard this song", oh and "______ you suck. Get off the board"

Not to be a "hater", but no one here cares. Sorry to rain on the parade, but no.

I'm also guessing people will post saying something how they care. But do they really care? No they don't. They just said that because they want to be the hero and defy me.

It doesn't matter.

what made gerard think up all that cancer stuff?
it's just stupid... i think you shouldn't use this topic to sell your music. by the way: my chem said they wanted that many people could relate to their music.
but, i mean, who can relate so someone having cancer?? NO, you can't... and if you say you can you're dull.
even gerard can't so this is what makes "cancer" so absurd and macabre.
it's hypocritical in a way.

I think the meaning is pretty straight forward. Very well written lyrics though.

I never thought I'd listen to any of their songs and cry, but I just got teary-eyed listening to this.

~Mink~, I assume you've never associated with someone who's had cancer and is lying on their deathbed. Therefore, I forgive your ignorant comment that writing about cancer is "stupid".

duh......yeah if you had read carefully you'd have noticed that the statement was: singing about cancer THAT WAY is stupid!
anyway:

cause all my hairs abandoned all my body
I’m in agony
know that I will never marry
and baby I’m just Sogin from the chemo

it's SO SUPERFICIAL!!!!!!
talking about something like merriage!
what gerard knows about having cancer is that you loose your hair and get a chemotherapy.
deepgoing? this?
no way

contrary to popular belief cancer did not kill the patient - they always mention a problem with the heart, never cancer, except this song. then again all teh pics in teh album booklet have a cancer patient in it so yeah...gerard says that inthis song cancer is a metaphor, a very powerful metaphor of disease suffering adn death. isn't it 1 in 3 american dies from cancer nowadays? so it's something that has affected us all in some way or another. it makes a personal connection with the audience...but the patient...represents his degeneration before death, whether from cancer or not.

this song reminds me of my sister...she is in remission from bone cancer. her hair is growing in now. its not the same color as before...i dont remember what she looked like with it from memory anymore. when i would see her so weak and sick it made it hard to breath. we are only 6 minutes apart. she is so thin from all the weight shes lost shes not the same person she was at all. she taught me how to look on the bright side of the darkest situation. this song breaks my heart just like the thought of my twin sisters death.
