Lyrics for Descending as interpreted by burnthepriest17

Descending Lyrics
the river i'm bound to be found in
a rope chosen bound for the hang
when i'm blinded i think i see everything
convincing myself again

this god that i worship (a faded reflection)
this demon i blame (a flickering flame)
conspire as one, exactly the same
ITS EXACTLY THE SAME

DESCENDING
to never recover the pieces to all that we've lost
RECOVER...THE PIECES LOST
THE PIECES...TO ALL WE'VE LOST

i shudder to think of the consequence
its blasphemy simple and true
the tragic protaganist torments
convincing myself again

this god that i worship (a faded reflection)
this demon i blame (a flickering flame)
conspire as one, exactly the same
ITS EXACTLY THE SAME

DESCENDING
to never recover the pieces to all that we've lost
DESCENDING
to never recover the pieces to all that we've lost
RECOVER...THE PIECES LOST
THE PIECES...TO ALL WE'VE LOST

this god that i worship
this demon i blame
conspire as one, exactly the same
ITS EXACTLY THE SAME

ITS EXACTLY THE SAME
ITS EXACTLY THE SAME

fuck i love this song, i just bought the album a couple days ago and this is one of my favourite songs. I think this song is about having no one to turn to except darkness " this god that i worshipped( a faded reflection ) , this demon i blame ( a flickering flame ) " And its about losing something that you cant replace " to never recover the peices to all that we've lost. "

I understand what your getting at, and it does make sense, but what do you think the "its exactly the same"

here is my 2 cents, I think what the song has to do with no matter what you you choose, or what he had chosen, everything happends the way it was ment too, maybe the song has something to do with fate. I really dont know

this song totally kicks ass. but i read on lamb of gods website that the songs about alcoholism. and it fits too

"this god that i worship, this demon i blame, conspire as one, its exactly the same"

that is basically referring to how alcohol is "this god that i worship" before you start drinking it and when you first start, BUT in hindsight, its "this demon i blame" because it causes all your problems, but then its "this god that i worship" again because it seems to fix those problems. and its exactly the same because well...its alcohol it just has its ups and downs.

oh, and "when i'm blinded i think i see everything" probably means that when hes drunk he feels he knows everything and is always right and does no wrong because thats what alcohol does to you. atleast thats what that line means to me.

"the songs about alcoholism" - It's about whatever you think it's about. Think for yourself and interpret it your own way. Cool song.

OMG IT'S ORGASMIC.
when randy's first screaming DESCENDINGGGGG... gosh pure joy.

"when i'm blinded i think i see everything
convincing myself again"
amazing line.

and yes IT IS ABOUT WHATEVER YOU THINK IT'S ABOUT. that's the point of music I think.. everyone takes a different message, everyone percieves it differently.. I see how it can be about someone you lost and dealing with grief, never ending grief. and I can also see how it is about alcoholism.. "this god that i worship, this demon i blame.." its a never ending circle.

Lamb of God, i have to say, just get better and better. Their music is the air I breathe. love them

I think when I first heard the line "This God that I worship, this demon I blame, conspire as one exactly the same" I thought it had something to do with the duality of religion in general and how people seem to thank god for the good and blame satan for the bad, when ultimately they are both on the same team, and one would not exist without the other. And calling just that thought blasphemous might support that.

I think it's really about the fact that the line between good and evil is very blurry and ill-defined, and how it's really all in the eyes of the beholder. "whe I'm blinded I think I see everything, convincing myself again."

I think this song is about jesus coming back to earth and trying to recover the pieces that we've lost. Satan and Jesus conspire as one to destroy the world and bring the Apocolypse, but then again thats only from the chorus , the first verse might be about someone facing the death penalty or something.

dude. schoolbag. it's not about religion. Randy loves religious metaphors, and other than that, he's a viciously antireligious person. that and it says it's about alcoholism on their site.

if there was ever such a thing as gothic thrash metal this would be it....
godDAMN its a good song. i really see how its about acholisim, but it could also be about an abusive relationship. or one filed with lies.
the other person is the god that he worships, (loves unconditionaly) but at the same time their lies/abuse/whatever makes them a demon in his life he blames for everything. and the ITS EXACTLY THE SAME coudl be that hes been here before and just keeps going down the same road again.
i dont know really the alocholisim think makes more sense that what i said.

lol i can see where "gothic thrash metal" comes from! the song gets really epic in the chorous. anyway back to the meaning. I pretty much agree with everyone here. As log have said themselves it is about alcoholism and that is how Randy sees the song but as AlmightNerd says Randy loves religious metaphors so you can relate to it if you are thinkin religously.

I think this song is about yourself rather than anything else. It is blaming God or the Devil for the good and the bad you do, but in the end of the day, there is no god or devil and it is all the good and bad side of yourself. It is exactly the same person! I think it is basically a struggle of man in difficulties and how he tries to blame all on others (or in case of Randy blame it on alcohol) where as you need to think of ways to get out it rather than avoiding it. The reference to this is the first verse.

Can someone please post their idea on "i shudder to think of the consequence
its blasphemy simple and true
the tragic protaganist torments
convincing myself again"

I dont really get it.

like most other people say this songs about addiction to alcohol. my thoughts on the lines "i shudder to think of the consequence
its blasphemy simple and true
the tragic protaganist torments
convincing myself again"
my thoughts on that is that he doesn't like to think about the consequence of drinking alcohol, and he knows that it's bad to do. a protaganist is a main character so he keeps trying to convince himself that the alcohol before and after he drinks it is the same stuff and it has its ups and downs and its a big circle of problems, etc. so he should quit. that's what makes sense to me

I took this song more about religeon.
Like. how all religeons have a good guy, and a bad guy. so. we want to know whats real and. we dont have everything to conclude. and alot of the lyrics can actualy fit to this. even tho this isnt the actualy meaning. but. just a thought.

Maybe they're telling everyone to open their eyes and realise there is no god, no devil, no heaven, and no hell.

This god that I worshio
This demon I blame
Exactly the same

They're the same, so that'll mean that they don't exist. Makes sense?
