Lyrics for Grace Kelly as interpreted by jonisofsparta

Grace Kelly Lyrics
Do I attract you?
Do I repulse you with my queasy smile?
Am I too dirty?
Am I too flirty?
Do I like what you like?

I could be wholesome
I could be loathsome
I guess Im a little bit shy
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you like me without making me try?

I try to be like Grace Kelly
But all her looks were too sad
So I try a little Freddie
Ive gone identity mad!

I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you walk out the door!

How can I help it
How can I help it
How can I help what you think?
Hello my baby
Hello my baby
Putting my life on the brink
Why dont yo like me
Why dont you like me
Why dont you like yourself?
Should I bend over?
Should I look older just to be put on the shelf?

I try to be like Grace Kelly
But all her looks were too sad
So I try a little Freddie
Ive gone identity mad!

I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you walk out the door!

Say what you want to satisfy yourself
But you only want what everybody else says you should want

I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you walk out the door!

yeah, i agree with the queen thing, [try a little freddie]

its a great song, its explosive happy, but its also a retort to the record companies. death on two legs was written about one man, who stole alot of queens money, but this is more a general thing, i like the 'identity mad' part, cos he's just saying he can do anything, be anyone, but in the end he's himself and y'all trying to change him can just 'walk out the door'

I totally agree with the fact that it's about record labels and how music artists have to undertake different styles for them. Definitely reminds me of Queen and Scissor Sisters. This song is hard to get out of my head - it sounds so positive and upbeat, Mika has without doubt got off with great start. I love this song!

Okay.
So my dad told me that Fred Astaire was a dancer with Grace Kelly in the 'olden days'.
And my dad said that the Freddie part isn't referring to Freddie Mercury, but Fred Astaire.
I'm not sure if it's a reference to Freddie Mercury or Fred/Freddie Astaire, but whatever. I love this song.

Wait, I think Freddie Mercury makes some sense now after heyjuderefrain's comment.
I think the Fred Astaire thing is wrong.

its about the record companies in London who said that they liked his song but they wanted him to change all this stuff about it and himself.
Hes asking why he has to try so hard.

Basically he is saying that he is willing to change for her if she will just give him a chance.
"But you only want what everybody else says you should want"
thta basically means that she is just going with the flow and is scared to have someone like him who is just so unique.
killer vocals!

Mika has said himself that he's referring to Freddie Mercury...that's why he always throws his arm up in the air whenever he says that line. Freddie used to throw his arm up like that all the time.

actually it seems to me that the line refers more to fred astaire rather than freddy mercury...

It may seem to you that that's who he's referring to. Everyone interprets songs differently. Honestly, I've never heard anyone mention that line referring to Fred Astaire until I got onto this website. I'm just saying what Mika has said about the song. I figured he would be know better than anyone about who he's referring to in his song...

This is what he said on a show called Taratata, which is a French music show (roughly translated to English):
Nagui (host): "So, it's true, I felt a lot of opera influence in this album, a lot of sounds and voices- Freddie Mercury-esque, are Queen and Freddie Mercury part of your musical tastes?"

Mika: "Yes, it was a big influence, but, quite late actually - I first heard about Queen when i was 16."

Besides, loads of people compare Mika to Freddie Mercury so I don't really know how he couldn't be talking about Freddie Mercury.

I love this song; it's been my favorite since December-ish. Now, it's everywhere and I love it.
Well, it's supposedly about him having to conform because the record companies did not like him the way he was.
hah, how ironic that the song about not conforming to make a big hit IS his big hit. Probably my favorite song ever.

Okay I just heard this song and my first question is what is the sexuality of Mika. Coming from an open minded music lover of all genres no matter what, that sounds like the dumbest thing ever. I just realized how proud I am of all of the rest of you and also for the others who normally bash pages. I was expecting a comment about him being a fag.

I already looked it up though, for those who I brought it to attention. He wont disclose his sexuality. Then the article he stated that in pointed out the identity thing in his song. he tried to be like Grace Kelly (a girl) and then he tried a little Freddie (a guy). I immediately thought...bicurious? He has an identity confusion.

Dont get me wrong though. Before anyone yells at me, understand I think Mika is absolutely gorgeous and I LOVE this song. I also know for a fact it's about record labels and all that. I was just saying it could also maybe apply to his sexuality. Just a thought..

I love Mika though...

Dont yell at me...

As somebody who is absolutely tired of hearing that question, I actually think what you're saying isn't too out there. I've never heard anyone interpret it that way, but it sorta makes sense. That thought had never crossed my mind but that doesn't that it's wrong...and don't worry I'm not going to yell at you, lol.

Actually, the Fred Astaire thing could be right. Mika has actually said that he hates being described as a cross between Jake Shears and Freddie Mercury. Why would he try to be Freddie Mercury if he hates being compared to him? I think you were right originally meqasaurus.

lol I love Mika truly but you gotta wonder. i mean, he's got the voice, he's got the moves...so could he be? lol It's always possible but I'd never in the world love him any less.

Prisoner.I.Was, I'm pretty sure it's Freddie Mercury. kk4408 already made the first point that he's confirmed Freddie Mercury was an influence. Second, in the video for this song, when he says the line "So I try a little Freddie", He does an arm thing EVERY time that Freddie Mercury is very well known for doing.

Hearts to Mika...
