Lyrics for Grace Kelly as interpreted by jonisofsparta

Grace Kelly Lyrics
Do I attract you?
Do I repulse you with my queasy smile?
Am I too dirty?
Am I too flirty?
Do I like what you like?

I could be wholesome
I could be loathsome
I guess Im a little bit shy
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you like me without making me try?

I try to be like Grace Kelly
But all her looks were too sad
So I try a little Freddie
Ive gone identity mad!

I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you walk out the door!

How can I help it
How can I help it
How can I help what you think?
Hello my baby
Hello my baby
Putting my life on the brink
Why dont yo like me
Why dont you like me
Why dont you like yourself?
Should I bend over?
Should I look older just to be put on the shelf?

I try to be like Grace Kelly
But all her looks were too sad
So I try a little Freddie
Ive gone identity mad!

I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you walk out the door!

Say what you want to satisfy yourself
But you only want what everybody else says you should want

I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you like me?
Why dont you walk out the door!

Now that I think about it, Mika does sound a lot like Freddie Mercury. I love this song, though; it's a very strong and optimistic song for the ones that feel out-of-place sometimes.

I didn't read all of the comments obviously, so I apologize if what I say is repeated.
Without having referenced Wikipedia (I saw that comment), I had always thought the line "So I tried a little Freddie/I've gone identity mad" had to do with Queen's "I'm Going Slightly Mad." The video for it shows none of the band members looking as they do -- Freddie just looks like a madman and makes the rest of them go mad -- Brian looks like a penguin, John is a joker, and I assume Roger is in the gorilla costume. It also goes with the song because he's changing personality. Along with the arm gesture Mika always does, the noise he makes after saying Freddie's name is something Freddie Mercury would do. Mika doesn't have as great of a vocal range as Freddie did, probably because he doesn't sing as low-pitched as Freddie did, but he is still an excellent vocalist and pianist (also like Freddie :P ). He has said he likes being compared to Freddie as would anyone, I think.

I love this song!!!!! I've heard that it's about record labels wanting him ot change, but when I first heard it I thought that it was about liking someone, but they want you to change who you are.

" I think he was talking about Fred Astaire when he says "So I tried a little Freddie""

That's what I thought as well. But it could be referring to both since Freddie Mercury is rather similar to him but Fred Astaire would make more sense in the context.

And completely awesome song. Really catchy, too.

...in fact,

"The comparisons to Freddie Mercury are fine," the 23-year-old says. "They started long before I made the record - I've even referred to it in Grace Kelly."

I have to say, I never thought-- and don't think-- Freddie could mean anything BUT Freddie Mercury. And can anybody furnish an example of Fred Astaire dancing with Grace Kelly? I don't think they ever even acted together.

I read that Mika wrote this song about "the industry" and about music, and producers, and popularity, and how superficial, etc, it all is. But you can take it personally too. I spent a long time, recently, trying to be the person who someone else wanted me to be - This song is about having a quick sulk about wishing you could be who someone else wants you to be, then telling them to screw off, because you are who you are.

Great and very positive energies in it.
I discovered it a gain when I recently saw "What happens in Vegas" where the song is featured.
I can't help but get in a good mood when I hear it.

I love this song, and if it weren't for Josiah Lemming singing it on American Idol, I probably never would have heard it. It's a really great song with great lyrics and a fun melody.

i saw this video a looong time ago, and while the music isn't really my style, i gave it a listen since the vid caught my eye. immediately, his voice reminded me of Freddie Mercury. I at least gave him his due, the guy can sing like hell. Now, i caught a commercial for Big Girls, and remembered the way he reminded me of Mercury. Big Girls... "Fat Bottomed Girls" ??? Not knocking him, just found it funny. Could he be Freddie re-incarnated, lol ?

To everyone who has said it reminds them of Queen:
"So I try a little Freddie"
As in Freddie Mercury, the singer of Queen.

Mika has the Queen thing going on, but he also reminds me of Elton John and The Bee Gees.

When I first heard the song, I instantly thought of relationships. Then again, not all songs are about love, eh? But if it is about a relationship, then he's saying he can change himself for the girl... or guy, if he really is gay. He does NOT change, however, and asks why doesn't she/he like him.

I love this song... It first came on our tape at the bath and body works i work at, and i thought "who is this?! it's amazing!" then i saw it on the preview for i now pronounce you chuck and larry, and i looked it up and discovered that I liked all of Mika's music.

I listened to this song constantly over the summer, and I have changed my mind so many times on what I think it means. I agree with the thing about the record execs, but on a little bit more shallow level...

It also seems like it could be a song about trying to impress the person you want to be with, and how far you should go for that approval.

whatever it means, it's awesome!

"Should I bend over?
Should I look older just to be put on the shelf?"

HAHA I thought I must have been hearing things when I first heard that in the song, but a few skips back and I found out I was right..
I really really like this guy, he has given the perfect example that pop isn't a dirty word..

Well you gotta commend him for having the same voice (if not the talent) of Freddie Mercury! And yes he's gorgeous!

Although I might have read somewhere that he's gay. But anyhoo, I still love his songs because it reminds me of my fave band Queen!
