Lyrics for Relax, Take It Easy as interpreted by jonisofsparta

Relax, Take It Easy Lyrics
Took a right to the end of the line
Where no one ever goes.
Ended up on a broken train with nobody I know.
But the pain and the (longings) the same.
(Where the dying
Now I’m lost and I’m screaming for help.)

Relax, take it easy
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

It’s as if I’m scared.
It’s as if I’m terrified.
It’s as if I scared.
It’s as if I’m playing with fire.
Scared.
It’s as if I’m terrified.
Are you scared?
Are we playing with fire?

Relax
There is an answer to the darkest times.
It’s clear we don’t understand but the last thing on my mind
Is to leave you.
I believe that we’re in this together.
Don’t scream – there are so many roads left.

Relax, take it easy
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

Relax, take it easy
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

Relax, take it easy
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

Relax, take it easy
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

It’s as if I’m scared.
It’s as if I’m terrified.
It’s as if I scared.
It’s as if I’m playing with fire.
Scared.
It’s as if I’m terrified.
Are you scared?
Are we playing with fire?

Relax
Relax.

This song bears a strong resemblance to "(I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight" by Cutting Crew. Could it possibly be an modified cover of that song, or something?

Don't take that as if I'm criticizing the song or anything, this is a really good song, and if it's a cover- then it's a hell of a good cover..!

I heard that this song is about the london train bombings which would make sense but i'm also leaning to maybe it's about him deciding to leave his partner and he doesn't want to hurt his partner, thats the last thing he wants to do(Blame it on me or blame it on you makes me think he doesn't want his partner to feel responsible but he doesn't want to be held accountable either) he is so comfortable and safe and secure in this relationship. which is why he's scared because he'll be going back into the world. He still want to be there for his partner (we're in this together) despite him wanting to be with his partner he can't stay in the relationship (i'm dying)
thats just my anylyst, i could be wrong

Mika describes the story behind the song:

I always wanted to write a dance song that wasn’t a really full dance track, that felt organic. So when I came into producing Relax I made sure that most of the sounds we used were actually made by real instruments.

We used some great session musicians who had worked with Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson.

And we picked up the strangest pedal combinations to get all these weird sounds.

It’s really effective . . . you can’t tell if it’s a full dance track or really laid-back. It feels a bit weird electronically.

The organic-ness gives a more classic field to it. So it was one of the harder tracks for me to produce, but also the most rewarding.

To answer to mariolonghi: I think the lady says: Same day I wanted dress for marry, Same day- well I won't get married. What happend: He go married another girl. When he married another girl I was very very sad. I can't walk like god did my legs. How he married different lady- I no believe. After one months I'm sent up in balkony some bomb come for my eyes. My eyes gone. My eyes gone, now I have only one eyes.I am sad until now, I no married any men after.
This is what I understood- It's a friend of Mika's family called Rafa who has lost one eye during the war in Lebanon.

so I love all Mika's songs but when Iisten to this one I dont want to listen to the happy songs like love today and grace kelly. it makes me feel better when I'm down but it seems so different from his other songs. I listen to this one once and can't feel justified in listening to others because this one is so different and amazing.

upbeat as this song first strikes you, by tying it to the words of the woman at the end I feel it takes on a darker note. To me the flippancy hides darker currents of fear and pain. Mika's music is a kalidoscope of primary colours. It seems simple and happy and full of energy but i wonder if the meaning behind the lyrics doesnt hold a more sinister note, as though the ecstatic joy is a brave face? To me this song may well be about lovers - or people that love platonically. It is about fidelity, facing the dark times together and in veiw of Lebanon I would say that the dark times are experienced as externally threatening forces rather than something integral with the relationship. There is death in this song and fear and a desperation, it is desperately upbeat, desperately aspiring to the impossible, the ability to relax in such a situation and environment. The characters are mutually urging each other, attempting to comfort and reassure each other, despite their own, shared, inner terror. This song is about being strong and putting on a brave light hearted face for your loved ones, those you are trying to protect, appearing happy and confident to give heart to others.when in reality it is an emotion far from which any of you are actually experiencing. I believe there is a false brightness to this song.

I think sherbert lemon's opinion is very interesting. I agree that this song isn't as optimistic as it seems to be. Good interpretation! =)

This is an amazing song, and it seems to me I read in an interview once that this song is indeed about his family's friend Rafa (The woman who pops out of the cake in the 'Love Today' video), who lost her eye during the war in Lebanon. About the way that there's nothing you can do.
It reminds me of when the whole terrorism started in the states, and I asked my mom what we would do. She said "There's nothing we can do... whatever will happen will happen, and we shouldn't spend our time worrying about something we can't control."

I think that's one of the main things that makes his songs so amazing; they're personal, and most of them sound like conversations we've all either had with someone else or ourselves at one point or another.

Anyway, here's the link for the new official video. The next single worldwide is 'Big Girl', but he released this single only in Germany.

this song sounds way too familiar.
i'm going to agree with the "I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight" comment.
first time I heard it, I was half asleep and wondered if the way back playbacks were on.

such a catchy song though, I love it.

It makes me happy, and reminds me of a little coffee shop or something.

It was on the radio as i was driving in to school and worried about my physics test. That made me smile.

I don't know why, but i thought the words were "Relax, take it easy/for there is nothing that we can't do." Although it's obviously "can" not "can't"

This song is very very differant. Many of his songs are. It is sad and hopeless, but it is also slightly reassuring. I think the meaning is similar to what Sarah Stagedive said. A bit like
'We're all so screwed, there is nothing we can do, so in the mean time, lets 'Relax, and take it easy'' There are also serveral differant opinions in the song, theres the 'We're all so screwed' and the accepting side 'Well if it's going to happen, theres no point worrying about it'

This song is haunting and sad, but it's also comforting at the same time, one of my Favourites.

WELL ... I immediately took it as a response to a bitching girlfriend. He's saying: "yeah what ever, just take it easy. There is nothing we can do, so just blame it on me, as you always do (or blame it on you - which never happens).

My take on it is that couples can get carried away with each other's flaws. So, when the flawed person is put on the spot, so to speak, it just makes them feel uncomfortable and out of place-- screwing up the relationship. So, they should just relax and live with each other's faults because they love each other, thus the line "For there is nothing we can do." And then, when the situation calls for it, you can just secretly blame it on the other person just to make yourself feel better and at ease. But, no matter what, you should just relax and take it easy.
