I miss the part when we were moving forward now
(On our way down)
But maybe someday I'll be something more than love
Just know I'll never tell
And when you're on your way down
(Through the clouds)
And you're waiting for your body's reentry again

We speak in different voices
When fighting with the ones we've loved
We speak in different voices
Why can't we say what we're thinking of?

I'm missing parts now that you've told me everything
(On our way down)
And I was blessed, and I've forgotten how to love
You said you'd never tell
And when you're on your way down
(Through the clouds)
And you're waiting for your body's reentry again

We speak in different voices
When fighting with the ones we've loved
We speak in different voices
Why can't we say what we're thinking of?

Not even I will tell

We speak in different voices
When fighting with the ones we've loved
We speak in different voices
We say these things to know they're real

We speak in different voices
When fighting with the ones we've loved
We speak in different voices
Why can't we say what we're thinking of?

We speak in different voices
When fighting with the one's we've loved
We speak in different voices
We speak in different voices

To know they're real
Real
I'll never tell

General Comment:This song, like every other song, can take on a bunch of different meanings. For me personally, I think that everybody is right about the how we lose ourselves and control over what we say and release who we really are and what we really think. I also agree with the opinion that as the argument escalates, we grow more distant. However, after watching the music video (and I know people are going to comment on the irrelevance of the video), I think that there is an underlying message that there are people out there who are like us and that everyone is going to get in an argument with the people we love. There will always be contention between us. And it is sort of a way to unite us all together in seeing our flaws until we apologize (hence the boy kissing his dad.) Also, based on the video, I think that we should all be more grateful for the fact that we DO have people in our lives we love who love us back and can show that affection. The boy in the video only had his father, yet acknowledged that he had a father and was grateful for him.

Song Meaning:I like to say that it's two people, I would say lovers. And they are so good with each other, and they understand each other. Their voices are the same, but to others it's different. You fight with family or friends to be with somebody you love. You keep promises and secrets and you never tell anybody cause its just right. But when she's gone, you feel like your missing something.
And I maybe when it's over, love becomes something different which changes you to something better.

Song Meaning:After reading everybody's opinions on here and analysising the lyrics with my friend, I think I've nailed the meaning now.

Like everyone's said, it's obviously about getting in an argument with a loved one, and finally opening up and saying exactly what they feel. The only reason I couldn't understand these lyrics is because I read it wrong. The pre-chorus bridge and the chorus are written as one sentence, so it'd be like reading it as:

"And when you're on your way down through the clouds, and you're waiting for your body's re-entry again, we speak in different voices when fighting with the ones we've loved."

Like some people have said on here, when he's talking about them "coming down through the clouds", he's talking about how throughout the argument, it's almost as if their ego has left their body, so what's left behind is just completely THEM. In relationships/friendships or any relationships, a lot of people hold what they can really feel back because their own reasons, or maybe in fear of hurting the other person. They make say fake things to suit a situation.

But when they open up and spill everything out, it's like they are speaking in different voices from how they usually "talk". Hence Cove saying, "I'm missing parts, now that you've told me everything"

So yeah, I 'd say techinally the song is talking about how we hold things back and hide from our true thoughts, and that we never really say what we mean. ("Why can't we say what we're thinking of")

And I think he says, "Not even I will tell" or "Just know I'll never tell", because he's just wanting them to be straight forward, and whatever they say or feel, he'll keep it to himself?

I'm pretty dead set that that's what the song is about...correct me if I'm wrong.
But all in all, this song and band is.so.fucking.amazing.

General Comment:I may have something similar yet opposite of what these lyrics mean: i think the song is about when people argue with their loved one's they tend to shout whatever will hurt the other the most, thus winning the argument, but never truly coming out and saying how they really feel and what has made them angry, or even depressed. They replace their true feelings with argument, constructive criticism with destructive. Your pent-up feelings of frustration fuel the seemingly irrational anger. Additionally this may not just pertain to yelling even; it could be a silent fight between two people, where they put on different voices or attitudes to mask their true emotions, whether that be anger, sadness, or love.
All in all,i think this song is incredible, and it really hits home for me, with either theory.

General Comment:I think ya'll are thinking too hard about it...
    "We speak in different voices,
When fighting with the ones we've loved"
It's simply about the idea that you become someone you thought you would never be, when fighting with ones you've loved.
The whole distance thing is really diggin' into the iceberg lol.
