Lyrics for Welcome To The Black Parade as interpreted by AbsolutionAgent_gMs

Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics
When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band

He said "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?"

He said "Will you defeat them
Your demons and all the non-believers
The plans that they have made?

"Because one day I'll leave you
A phantom to lead you in the summer
To join the black parade."

When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band

He said "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?"

Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets
And when you're gone we want you all to know

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
Will carry on
And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it

A woman sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Do you fight it to the end
We hear the call
To carry on

We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
Will carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Youe weary widow marches on

On and on we carry through the fears
Disappointed faces of your peers
Take a look at me 'cause I can not care at all

Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Though they try, they'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm not ashamed, I'm gonna show my scar
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's only

I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy who's meant to sing this song
Just a man, I'm not a hero
I don't care

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Youe weary widow marches on

Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Though they try, they'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part

Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Though they try, they'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part

They don't "sound" like Green Day, they "sound" like Queen, just like AbsolutionAgent has repeatedly stated and used as an excuse to close his mind to the actual content of the song.

But "sound" isn't what determines a song's worth. The idea that sparked the need for such a song to be written is what justifies a song's unique merit, and this song has just that.

A song's sound is nothing more than a tool, a rhetoric, for delivering the necessary message. Thus, the sound of Queen gives this song an anthematic expression of its Punk Rock idea.

I also don't think its a coincidence that Rob Cavallo is producing this record. My Chemical Romance is simply rising up to meet the inherent challenge laid down by Green Day when they released American Idiot.

I agree that they are evolving. That's a good thing. Writing songs about a death by cancer, championing a cause, and taking a journey through the limbo of afterlife is challenging stuff.

We'll see if they've got the chops for it on 10-24.

during the intro with the piano gerard sounds alot like freddie mercury, but then after the guitar kicks in i started noticing similarities between his voice and glenn danzig's, and during both verses his singing can be easily compared to billy joe's in jesus of suburbia, next the part where he says "the disappointed faces..." reminds me of both lead singers from SOAD on their latest albums, and i think the lines : "Though your dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on we'll carry on and though you're broken and defeated you're wiery widow marches on" are sung in a very Tom DeLonge (Angels and Airwaves, Blink 182, BCR) style who may be performing backing vocals, finally during the end and in some other parts, both the music and the singing have a Freedom Call feel (I think their lead singer might also be on backing vox too)

I admit, the song is somewhat of an anthem, and that it might make history, but this shouldn't have come out of MCR, maybe Green Day, but not MCR.

Correct lyrics are as follows:

When I was a young boy,
my Father took me into the city,
to see a marching band.

He said "Son when, you grow up, will you be, the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned."

He said "will you defeat them, your demons and all the non-believers, the plans they have made."

Because one day I'll leave you,
A phantom to lead you in the summer,
To join the black parade."

Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me.
And other times I feel like I should go.
Through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets.
When you're gone we want you all to know

We'll Carry on,
We'll Carry on
Though your dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart I cant contain it
The anthem wont explain it.

and we will send you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back

Though your dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on

m'kay, I'm back to get a few things straight:

1. It's MCR. The band was there on live TV, they performed it, they rocked out just like always. So no one can tell me that it isn't MCR. That's just stupid.

2. Pop, Punk, Emo... who gives a shit? Labels are for soup cans. Plus, you shouldn't like or dislike MCR for their label, you should love or hate 'em for their music.

Clear enough, or do I have to hire a therapist for some of you morons?

This is the first single off their new album the black parade.
Its amazing, they talk about it on the interview on
www.theblackparade.com
I think it's a different sound for them, but I'm liking it.
It was so good on the VMA's when they played it.
Awesome.

Death Metal ... you should be listening to death metal instead of this....
You should join the revolutionand start listening to BDM , MCR can't be the next queen , they are awful, they were about to do emocore but they sold out.

Ugh this is disgusting.

I've been listening to MCR since "I Brought You My Bullets..." and am definately not the stereotypical MCR fan (I'm in my twenties) and I have stuck with them through all the hating the past year or two. People need to realize that they were writing these punk/emo tunes from the very beginning. If you listen to them from the beginning, their sound really has not changed that much.

As far as this song, I never even knew they were coming out with a new album but I found this tune on myspace and I'm absolutely floored. I think it's incredible. There's a ton of feeling in the song, it's about keeping the memory of a dead father (or anyone close to you that died) and letting that memory give you strength through the rest of your life. The song sounds a little corny at times, what with the opera-esque instrumentation. In fact it sort of reminds of my Dragonforce.

But anywho, I'm really really excited for the new album now. This song just sold me. I remain happy that MCR has made it to the big time because they definately deserved it.

_____________________
..the dresden dolls are NOT goth. They are POP ROCK, im a fan of the, and they stated many times that their not even punk caberet. their music may be pop but it has feeling and a ton more meaning the the usual pop. Why do you associate caberet with the dresdens? why not some other band?.. anyway thats it.

To:ROckXWL
I agree with you 100%. The sound is not too far off their old stuff. They did say they wanted to take elements from Three Cheers and Bullets, in the next album. The "corny" parts for me, would be when he says "well carry onnnnn", but I love this band and the music. Their skills in performing songs always amazes me. I'll be waiting for TBP impatiently. :P P.S. Dragonforce is amazing.

I like this song it reminds me of Queen for some reason where it soars into the quickened bit. It's like the "patients" best memory of going to see the marching band and when he dies it's them that take him and it's cool that they say his memory will carry on and that "she's" watching over me" bit could be a refrance to their Grandma?! I am excited to get their new album should be good!!!

I love this song! I think it's amazing.

I love how he sings, "We'll carry on, we'll carry on." and "Do or die, you'll never make me. Because the world will never take my heart. Though you try, you'll never break me."

Also, I don't see how this song is so hard to understand. When I listened to it for the first time, I could understand everything he was saying.

Okay let me start off by saying that I am no MCR fan- by a looooong stretch. In fact I find them to be extremely overrated. But this song impressed me, and they weren't bad live at VMAs Preshow. It does sound quite a bit like Queen when the instruments first come in and even with the beginning vocals but you can't really say that's a bad thing can you? Queen's amazing!

I've been a wicked bif fan og My Chemical Romance since I saw them on low profile in AP, but when I saw/hear this new song at the VMA preshow, I was extremely dissapointed. I must admit I wasn't really sure what to expect, but with the way they were playing up the next album in their last issue of AP, I was not excited about it.

It's kinda like Angels and Airwaves. They're alright, but when the cd came out I was wicked dissapointed. The cd has kinda grown on me since I bought it, but I am not as excited about it as I thought I would be.

I just hope that this next cd won't be another Angels and Airwaves

ok people, it's like this. who cares what they are? does anyone remember when you could just appreciate music because it was music, and not have to categorize it into eighty million different little subdivisions and then critique as to whether or not it has stayed true to that little subdivision? what bullshit, it ruins the music!
listen to this song, people, close your fucking eyes and really listen to this song!!! don't you see how absolutely beautiful it is? Can't you hear how hard they worked, and how much they mean this song, in every lyric, every drumbeat, every riff, how could ANYone say that this is not MCR? of course it is!! They poured their hearts and souls into this song just like all their other ones, and if you listen well enough you can here that. Thank god that this is a band who can evolve and spread its message to growing numbers of fans...if anyone watched Life on the Murder Scene, they would know that the whole reason the band was formed was to spread their message and save lives...and how true they are staying to themselves.
but i know that i'm preaching to the choir here because true fans are not going to turn their backs on MCR because they have the ability to evolve and create something truly spectacular.

Now that MCR have completely sold out beyond return, i think i can let them off the hook, if they want to be queen, good for them, but the underground scene will never forgive them, they're free to do whatever they want on the surface, i don't really give a fuck anymore.
good song though, very uplifting for the spirit, definately something fresh on the MTV table, it's just not my style to be honest.

and for those who would like a good laugh at MCR's expense, here's a funny list of how to become MCR written by one of my friends

How to be MCR!

1) you have to be from NJ, if not then FUCK YOU! you can't be MCR!
2) purpously have an "unpleasant" life, so you can make it look like a fuckin tragedy.
3) You need to be a gay lead singer if not then FUCK YOU! you can't be MCR!!
4) Drop by the mental institute and get a guitarist, then make him look gay
5) Buy a cheap bass and hand it to your retarded brother, if your brother is not retarded then
FUCK YOU, you can't be MCR!!
6) Find a fairly good guitarist, but make sure he doesn't look human, more like a horse instead
7) Get a good "european" drummer
8) All set? Now Check your previous 101 boyfriends and find one that has a record label and get back on his
bandwagon.
9) Make a decent album with horror references and chunky breakdowns then claim you'll be going HARDxCORE!!!1111
10) ok, cut the freeride with this guy, and get hitched with a VERY famous guy
11) kiss him onstage to declare your "love", even make a fuckin song about it on the next album
12) Time for a new album! fire your good drummer and get a shitty drummer.
13) Make sure your good guitarist (not the gay one) gets worse day by day by giving him anti depressants
14) take anti-depressants yourself, keeps your lyrics fresh and recycled
15) take your old songs, make them softer, more broadway, start wearing excessive make-up, and hit the road
with your make up bag and your ramen.
16) make sure you switch your style every single day, recycle EVERYTHING! HOW MANY TIMES AM I SUPPOSED TO TELL
YOU?
17) pick the absolute worst songs off your new album and sell them as singles with expensive video clips
18) Everyone's confused about the meanings of your songs? who frankly gives a fuck, tell them it's a concept album!
19) during the recording your bassist and your gay guitarist's only dutie is to go buy you twizzlers
20) Go on tour with green day and hit on billy joe, just in case you ever need help in the future
21) Now you're big and famous, tell everyone it's gonna be a rise and fall, and tell them emo never fit you
although you never were emo.
22) Dump the guy who got you famous, and make a song about that, it's gotta sound like george michael.
Make the lyrics br00tal, break the fucker's heart, but make the music GEORGE MICHAEL!
(Last Christmas cannot be used, choose another song by george michael)
23) play your songs with incorrect lyrics, tell them it was a demo if the kids ask any questions
24) remember the statistics in case they ask you about how many kids you're saving from suicide
25) make sure you visit songmeanings everyday, so you don't get caught off guard when they ask you about your
lyrics
26) looking for a stand by boyfriend? that's why we hired the untalented guitarist from that highschool band!
Get your mojo on with him, DO IT!
27) You died your hair blonde for the heck of it? and the kids are pissed?
make them think the next album is about cancer and leukemia, they won't ask questions
28) make a "spectacular" re-entry at the VMAs with "we're back" written on screen as if you were here long enough
in the first place, and play shitty anthems off your new record
29) BE QUEEN! cause you once accidentally listed them as influences, if not Queen then freedom call.
30) Sing like Billy Joe, Act like Freddie, get Freedom Call to perform it for you, and have Tom De Longe on backing vocals
don't forget the SOAD breakdown, now break the news and tell everyone it's part of the "concept"
31) Don't forget the cheezy uniforms! you gotta look extra cheeze for the camera.
32) BE GAY AT ALL TIMES!
33) No more br00tal, just gayness and Queen!
34) want more b-sides? just slap on a few live tracks, hell yeah, tell them it's rare and watch as they disappear by the millions
35) Finally go on warped tour, and get your ass kicked by every single band there, do the same with all tours if possible

CONGRATULATIONS, you are now the most messed up band in today's modern music world, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE.
