Lyrics for Welcome To The Black Parade as interpreted by AbsolutionAgent_gMs

Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics
When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band

He said "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?"

He said "Will you defeat them
Your demons and all the non-believers
The plans that they have made?

"Because one day I'll leave you
A phantom to lead you in the summer
To join the black parade."

When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band

He said "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?"

Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets
And when you're gone we want you all to know

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
Will carry on
And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it

A woman sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Do you fight it to the end
We hear the call
To carry on

We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
Will carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Youe weary widow marches on

On and on we carry through the fears
Disappointed faces of your peers
Take a look at me 'cause I can not care at all

Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Though they try, they'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm not ashamed, I'm gonna show my scar
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's only

I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy who's meant to sing this song
Just a man, I'm not a hero
I don't care

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Youe weary widow marches on

Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Though they try, they'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part

Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Though they try, they'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part

One more thing... Chassant, I totally agree with you up until the love part...it's not a sweet love story in my opinion, its a bittersweet story about someone loosing the will to fight off cancer. Take of it what you will though...

I think this song is about someone dying from cancer. The beginning is the father hoping he's given his son the skills he needs to go on through life and certain parts in the chorus suggest that this person dying wasn't in all high regards with people. However, with the "we carry on" line is the son saying he'll be okay and no matter what happens, he doesn't care what others think about his father. Then comes the "your weary widow" line suggesting that the wife is interjecting a statement.

And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on

this songs is about a man who is about to die and all he remembers of his childhood is his father taking him to see a parade. After that meaning the emo-ness of this band kinda takes the song over and yeah... good song though i love the beginning

I believe that song is about the death of a loved one. Most likely someone who died in the line of duty, and the persons unwillingness to fight or kill, but his desire to keep the memory of that loved one alive. In the beginning the loved one who they is the father, though can be substituted by a friend or mentor, asks him to fight for the people oppressed by the tyrants of a country like Iraq. The father says that when he dies he want's his son to join up and fight. At first he is unwilling to fight in a bloody war. Still he truly wants to give his father a legacy so he ends up joining, and doing his part in the fight. People he meets call him a hero for fighting in the war, but he tells them that all he is doing his singing his father's song. He is continuing his father legacy.

I just thought I would throw in my two cents.

I think people are hitting the nail on the head when they talk it's about death - indeed it is but it's not that blatantly obvious.

I feel that this song is more explaining the revelation he had during the time as a comic book writer during the 9/11 attacks. It was then that MCR spawned, and then that he decided he wanted to "spread a message".

He's previously mentioned being very spiritual/religious, evident in the time he was sharing about when he was around fifteen, he was held at gunpoint.

"I got held up with a .357 Magnum, had a gun pointed to my head and put on the floor, execution-style. No matter how ugly the world gets or how stupid it shows me it is, I always have faith."
So, I believe that a more personal experience is shared with the first verse(s).

The obvious references to the fallen people are of course, in loving memory of those who have died on September 11th.

"And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
Will carry on
And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it"

The anthem, perhaps making a reference to this nations anthem.

"We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm not ashamed, I'm gonna show my scar"

Maybe a deeper meaning that, if there was indeed a draft, he would not fight it like most do, but, play his part as a soldier and fight without mercy and remorse against the tyrants whom killed his fellow people.

He ends that nicely with this, a modest answer to when people (alot of crazed-fans, I'd deduce) assume he is:

"I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy who's meant to sing this song
Just a man, I'm not a hero
I don't care"

Yeah i just made a small analysis of this song at
http://jimohazard.blog.friendster.com/2009/02/song-analysis-welcome-to-the-black-parade-my-chemical-romance/

"The Black Parade" is the journey to death. The only time when the damned and the beaten will receive honor which they never did before...

Alright, let me work a few thoughts on this.

By now, this album's been out for two and a half years, or something of the like. I've been struggling with the meaning of the work as a whole, not just one song or the other. Because it's definitely a rock opera.

There's a lot of duality in this album. Some of the songs sound like they are indeed about dying (The End, Dead, Cancer), others sound like they're about vampires (The Sharpest Lives, Blood), others sound like they're about war (Mama, Sleep) and others just seem to be about love (How I Disappear, I Don't Love You, Famous Last Words, Disenchanted)

However, I think that it's mostly metaphors. The war - instead of being about a literal war - may very well be the fight to live. The 'vampires' are the nurses who take his blood. And beneath all of it I think there is a very strong, sweet love story. Famous Last Words was the perfect way to officially end the album because it shows that he always comes back to her, even though he's torn. He's giving her his last words, which would be, I believe, 'I love you.'

I think he dies at the very very end, in Blood.

Tell me what you think.

i think some people getting it confused with "The End."

anyway, it's about being depressed and getting through that, not letting anything stop you from living

I love this song, I think it explains well on how they are going to carry on and never forget the person they have lost. I just think this song is full of meaning. I love My Chemical Romance a lot, their songs always seem to stay in my heart and mind, I'm not sure why tho

To me, the song is about a soldier fighting in WWII, who's just struggling to "carry on" and survive. He remembers his father to give him courage. Just me, but "Your misery and hate will kill us all" refers to Hitler.

Ok, so how about the song meaning? It's like his dad hoped that he would defeat his demons and be a caring person. However, instead, when his wife dies he says 'I can not care at all' 'the world would never take his heart, and that he is just a man, not a hero. The part I don't understand is 'Your misery and hate will kill us all. So paint it black and take it back.' Is he talking about himself?

The lyrics at the top of this page are the correct lyrics.

The lyrics that some people are posting: "now come one come all to this tragic affair..." those are not the lyrics to "Welcome to the Black Parade" but they are the lyrics to the song, "The End".

This song is about how when you die death comes to you how you want it to appear. In the song when he was younger he went to a parade and this is how he wants it to be like.
