This one came from looking, this one opened twice
These two seemed smooth as silk, flush against my eyes
This one need stitches, and this one came from rings
This one isn't even there, but I feel it more because you don't care

Yeah, cut right into me
Yeah, because I am made of scars
Yes, I am made of scars

This one had it coming, this one found a vein
This one was an accident, but never gave me pain
This one was my father's, and this one you can't see
This one had me scared to death
But I guess I should be glad I'm not dead

Yeah, cut right into me
Yeah, because I am made of scars
Yes, I am made of scars

God, don't you believe the hype
God, don't you believe the hype
God, don't you believe the hype
God, don't you believe the hype

And I will find a way
Everything you are I will betray
Oh, I swear that I will find a way
Everything you are's inside me

This one was the first one
This one had a vice
This one, here, I like to rub on dark and stormy nights
This one was the last one
I don't remember how
But I remember blood and rain
And I never saw it coming again

Yeah, cut right into me
Yeah, because I am made of scars
Yes, I am made of scars
Yes, I am made of scars
Yes, I am made of scars

That's what I'm made of

General Comment:the "scars" which builds our personalities up as human beings.
it makes us seem like we are different individuals.
a nice answer for the question "who am I?"

General Comment:i lived with a man for 9 years who was a "cutter" when he was growing up. this song is him to a "T". some of the scars are literal, physical and some of the scars are emotional, scars on his soul. my friend told me a lot about the scars and why. not that i can really understand i can't wrap my head around it, how cutting helped but according to him, it did. He cut himself because of his failure to please his father. He cut himself once and his mom had to take him for stitches. one time he cut himself so badly he almost bled to death on the way to the hospital. That one scared him "to death". Recently he cut off his finger on a table saw. That was an accident. He hadn't cut himself for a long time but when we first started dating he didn"t know how to handle the intense emotions he was feeling. i loved him with all my heart and he allowed himself to love me back with the same intensity. We were having a spat as all couples do and it was too much for him, he was alone and he cut himself. He never saw it coming back again. He lives by himself now and sometimes when he gets drunk he rubs the scars on his soul one or two imparticular and those times turn into dark and stormy nights. i love this man with all my heart still he loves me too but he's very very complex and tormented and it's better that we live apart.. this song IS him. my biggest wish in this life is that i had the magic words to say to "fix" my friend and give him peace inside his soul. it's my opinion that only a person with personal experience could write a song so deep and authentic. i feel for that person.

General Comment:Basically, the singer went through a lot of bad things in his life, acquiring many "scars" along the way. However, obtaining these scars has made him a stronger person. Pretty simple.

General Comment:corey has openly admitted to recording some songs for his bands in the booth cutting and puking on himself..but no the song is emotional trauma from never knowing his father and only hearing horror stories of his father. Some of the scars were emotional ones from his father. But the majority are scars caused by other people who said horrible things about his father. all he had heard before he met his dad was he was trash. Eyel e Ss by Slipknot has a line also referencing his pain caused by his dad walking out before he knew him. "i am my father's son cus he's a phantom of mystery and that leaves me nothing".
just my two cents don't rage over me i'm a huge fan of corey's band and SlipKnoT. But in the end only the write of the song will know every meaning to every word in the song we only get the main idea.

General Comment:i don't know why every one seems to thnk self mutilation, the bragging show off qualty makes me think of a couple adrinalin junkies showing off old balltle scars. this one came from rings, getting sucker punched with brass knuckes, this one an acident, crashing your motor cycle trough a depatment store window, this one had it coming, never grab a girls ass when her boyfreind is 3 times your size and standing right there.
and that last part about this one was the last one, i don't remember how, i remember wind rain and i never saw it comming again. well safe bet that little accedent was fatal. but thats interpitation.

General Comment:As someone whose actually been through 7 years of emotional abuse, I can completely relate to every line.

Even down to where the scars "came from".

    ie:
This one had it coming - it was my fault

This one had me scared to death... - I once came close to suicide a few years ago. Scared the living shit out of me.

This one I like to rub on dark and stormy nights - There are some times where I take pride in surviving what I've been through. When things get bad, I remember that most of the time I've been through worse.

I can come up with similar correlations for each scar he mentions.

As for the chorus, I finally saw a psychologist and can now deal with my problems in a more productive fashion. They don't have the grip on me that they used to. After what I've been through, I'm up to any challenge.

God - Don't believe the Hype: For me this is kind of direct because I never looked to any religion or spirituality to save me. I trusted my reason and stubbornness, and although it wasn't smooth, they got me through, and I take pride in not having needed a religious crutch.

And I will find a way... - I will never believe what the abuser believes.

General Comment:everything bad in life leaves scars but makes you a stronger person. When the song says. "THIS ONE was my father's and THIS ONE you can't see" that scar is refuring to the imprint his dad left on him after being an asshole. The last part of the song when it says:"THIS ONE here I like to rub on dark and stormy nights" could be self-mutilation considering the fallowing part saying "but I remember blood and rain" makes it seem like it's not a metaphorical scar. But if it is a metaphor it could be that "rub" is a metaphor for remembering something that hurt him. And "dark and stormy nights" could be a metaphor for nights when things are going bad. Could be talking about something like an ex friend or girl friend or his dad again that he likes to remember when things get bad with that person he remembers the good times there were even though that person left a scar in his life. "THIS ONE came from rings" this is probably about a marriage or relationship that went wrong.

General Comment:andthetruthcomesout, i'm just talking about the person the song was written about, so how do you know i like "him"? and, if i did like someone that cut themselves it wouldn't change my feelings toward them.

General Comment:Ah, he's made of the scars of past experiences. I don't think anyone can say with certainty whether or not he refers to self-mutilation or not. There aren't any distinct cues for or against it, in my mind, and I think it's ridiculous to bash Corey just because his song possibly implies cutting.

Someone like me can relate to this, though. Not only do I have probably hundreds of physical scars, but I've been sent through the mill emotionally too. I'm made of my past experiences, and I am who I am, whether you like it or not. Props to Corey, if he is the one who wrote this, after all.
