I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment all my life
But it's not quite right

And this 'real'
It's impossible if possible
At who's blind word
So clear but so unheard

I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this silence all night long
It's just a matter of time

To appear sad
With the same old decent lazy eye
Fixed to rest on you
Aim free and so untrue

Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone's so focused clearly with such shine

Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone's so focused clearly with such shine

Lost and loaded
Still the same old decent lazy eye
Straight through your gaze
That's why I said I relate
I said we relate
It's so fun to relate

It's the room, the sun, and the sky
The room, the sun, and the sky

I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment

Song Meaning:A "lazy eye" is also known as a "wandering eye." When talking about lovers, a "wandering eye" refers to a lack of fidelity. Taking the term "lazy eye," he uses it to describe a love interest who is casting his gaze elsewhere.
The term "true" beyond meaning "factually correct" means "faithful" and ALSO means "straight" when used to describe something like a shot. The "aim" is "untrue," or the gaze is not where it appears to be cast, the lover is not faithful. "Lost and loaded" is a play on "locked and loaded" a term used to describe a rife, but turned on it's side, to describe the jilted lover drowning his sorrow.

My Interpretation:Maybe I'm crazy but my first reaction to this song was that it sounded like a soliloquy of a gunman, particularly one of the student shooters who attacked their schools (e.g. Columbine, Virginia Tech, etc.).

He says he's been waiting for this moment but it's not quite right (slight remorse, or feeling of incompletion after the deed).

He then says "I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this silence all night long
It's just a matter of time"

The silence is there because everyone's laying on the floor dead - it's just a matter of time before the cops show up.

    "To appear sad
With the same old decent lazy eye
    Fixed to rest on you
    Aim free and so untrue"

He's either talking about himself or possibly on of his victims - with a lazy eye - who had a profound effect on him.

    "Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone's so focused clearly with such shine"

The people are all lying together on the floor. He yells the "Such shine" part because he's referring to them in anger, people he resents for being "normal" or better than him.

    "Lost and loaded
Still the same old decent lazy eye
    Straight through your gaze
    That's why I said I relate
    I said we relate
    It's so fun to relate"

I'm guessing here he's confirming that the lazy-eye is one of the victims that he relates too, the one that stuck in his mind.

Then again I tend to pull strange meanings out of songs ... I just thought it fit really well.

My Opinion:I really like this song! Very awesome, remember hearing it on the radio. Amazing how "into it" the lead singer gets. That's pure emotion and love of music!

Although I don't completely have an interpretation of this song, I do have a possible explanation of what it may mean.

I think it is discussing how a guy and girl take notice of each other and maybe rather shy and in a crowd of people. The two want to talk to each other, but are nervous around the crowd of people and their eyes keep meeting. When the crowd leaves the two hang around and finally get to talk and enjoy each others company.

Whether I am right or wrong, I really enjoy this song! Awesome!!!!

General Comment:In my opinion, this song is about someone who really likes this other person, looking at them all the time and all (hence the Lazy Eye part), but once they do end up with them, they realized that they weren't who they thought the person they loved were. "I'm been waiting for this moment all my life, but it's not quite right." And the only time they really get along is when they are sleeping together. "I said we really need to fuck to relate." That's my opinion, anyways :)

General Comment:This song can have diffrent meanings, as for the "lazy eye" can be taken metaphorically or literally.
I relate to the literal meaning of the song. Because it's how one feels with this imperfection and I get it 100%. I am so glad I found this song.
The metaphorical meaning is about a one sided relationship, why? because "Lazy eye" in this meaning means focusing on someone else.

General Comment:Please no one get mad at me if they don't agree, art is meant to have a personal meaning for everyone :)
It's about trying to be in love, but really just pretending to be in love. The lazy eye looks through the significant other, is constantly wandering to others and he has his mind somewhere else. The lazy eye is the sign of the insincerity of their relationship.

"I've been waiting for this moment all my life/But it's not quite right": Pretty self explanatory, being with them doesn't feel right
"And this 'real'/It's impossible if possible/At whose blind word/So clear but so unheard": Their 'real love' that they supposedly have is, isn't real. It's just empty words that don't touch him.
"I've been waiting/I've been waiting for this silence all night long/It's just a matter of time": They want to be left alone (just my interpretation, of course)
"To appear sad/With the same 'ol decent lazy eye/Vexed to rest on you/Aim free but so untrue": They are making themselves appear focused on that person, but they don't want to, it's difficult and annoying for them (vexed), the attention is insincere.
"Everyone's so intimately rearranged/Everyone's so focused clearly with such shine": Everyone else around appears to be connected to each other, and shining with happiness, arranging themselves around another person.
"Locked and loaded/Still the same 'ol decent lazy eye/Straight through your gaze": They are not really connected to the person, they are staring straight through them
"That's why I said I relate/I said we really need to fuck to relate": It's just lust, he's telling them what they want to hear, but it doesn't mean anything to him.
"It's the room the sun and the sky/The room the sun and the sky": The factors that he's blaming for his wandering eyes and lack of commitment.

    Voila.

General Comment:I think the song is about a guy with a lazy eye (i.e. him) that basically sees double all the time, or askew in whatever way so that he doesn't have the visual focus that other people have. And all his life he's been waiting for a girl that he can directly connect with, which to date has been impossible (visually anyway) due to his lazy eye. But he has something way stronger, Shine...(use the definition from the movie The Shining -- the gift of being able to communicate without speaking).

A few lines and phrases that help convey my understanding:

"I've been waiting for this moment all my life" -- (to be able to 'see' someone clearly))

"I've been waiting for this silence, all my life" (getting to the level where he can overcome his lazy eye and relate). "It's just a matter of time. To appear sad, with this same old decent lazy eye, fixed to rest on you. So clear but so untrue."
--the only emotion people perceive of him, and his lazy eye, is sadness, even though he doesnt feel sad.
An "untrue" rifle is one whose scope isn't lined up properly so the aim is off. But anyway, he is able to shine which is way cooler.

"Everyone is so intimately rearranged" (when you have a lazy eye, things get jumbled like a kaleidoscpoe but in a completely personal and individual way because no one sees you like I do; therefore my vision of you is more beautiful.) So he is pontificating about how with a lazy eye, everything is so intimately rearranged.
But "Everyone can focus clearly with such shine"

    and then...
"Everyone's so focused clearly with such shine!!" (fuck my lazy eye, I can see her with more focus that you will ever be capable of. I can shine, bitch.)

(Get fired up, he's got her in his lazy-eye-ass tracks!)

"Lost and loaded (a great pun on "locked and loaded"). "Still this same old decent lazy eye, fixed on your gaze" (Maybe I can't stare you in the eye like others can, but I can stare into your spirit. And I love my lazy eye because it allowed me to see you in a way that no one else in the world can).
"That's why I say I relate. I said we relate. It's so fun to relate." (love is all about relating, and seeing that person clearly, and relating. Fuck his lazy eye. He knows how to relate better than people with 20/20 vision do.

And then he chills for a minute to appreciate his newly understood self, and then he and the whole band go crazy with incredibly uplifting noise.

General Comment:it's 2011. I'm still here, and still on YouTube listening to this song at work every day. Great song by a great band. I interpret it like someone on one of the previous pages mentioned. It sounds to me like the "wandering eye" you have for someone you always care about, but never make any moves. No matter how much you separate yourself, you always seem to wander right back to that person, hence "lazy eye" aka "wandering eye"... Just a thought.
