Brown eyes and lungs are filled up with smoke
Fast lives are stuck in the undertow
But you know the places I wanna go
Cause oh oh oh I've got a sickness you've got the cure
You've got the spark I've been looking for
And I got a plan we walk out the door
You know you wanna just let go
It's time to roll down the windows
Singing oh oh oh
We got all we need singers
So here we go

[Chorus]
Turn it up
It's five minutes to midnight
You're coming home with me tonight
I can't get enough, shakin' me up turn it up alright
At five minutes to midnight

You'll see our name in city lights
Well make the clock stop make your heart drop
It becomes alive
We could pack up and leave other things behind
No fact or fiction or story line
Cause I need you more than just for tonight your oh oh oh
All I care I can't stop my breathing in
I'm weak and you were my medicine
I won't stop til I am under your skin
You know you wanna just let go
It's time to roll down the window
Singing oh oh oh
We got all we need so here we go

[Chorus]

And when the clock strikes twelve
Will you find another boy
To go and kiss and tell
Cause you know I never will I think we could strike a match
And hold it to the wind to
See how long it lasts
We can make the time stand still

[Chorus:Repeat x2]

General Comment:I think there might be a deeper meaning to this song. Five Minutes to Midnight was a code phrase used during the Cold War to describe lengths of time away from nuclear war. 1 Minute to Midnight meant the first nuke has been launched, midnight meant nuclear war. For the US right now we're about 6 minutes from midnight (it doesn't mean time in minutes obviously, but the closer to midnight, the closer to nuclear winter). The closest we got in the Cold War was 2 minutes. This song could just be about a party or whatever, but I think it's possible it could have a deeper meaning; a last night to live sort of meaning, or even last week I suppose. The first verse, "Brown eyes and lungs are filled up with smoke," could indicate a coming apocolypse of some sort. Then, "Fast lives are stuck in the undertoe," could indicate that as the world is receding, the chaos of lives that could never slow down are caught back and rather meaningless. "But you know the places I wanna go" could mean the places the speaker wants to go before death. Then "We could pack up
And leave all our things behind
No fact, or fiction, or storyline
'Cause I need you more than just for tonight" could mean leaving home, because it'll be meaningless by midnight and the speaker is saying they need the other person if they survive. Nuclear war is a bit of a stretch for parts of the lyrics or for this song, but I think it's possible and even if it isn't the meaning it at least makes us think a little more about it.

My Interpretation:Well a few weeks ago in my World Civ class we were learning about the count down to the end of wht world clock or whatever
and the last time it changed was set to 5 minutes to midnight
so i thought maybe this song was about the end of the world coming so lets do everything we can while we still have a chance

General Comment:Will you find another party
    Go and kiss and tell

Sorry if this has been said already but I believe it's:

    Will you find another boy
To go and kiss in town

General Comment:I think its interesting that no one has discussed what the significance of '5 minutes to midnight' could be in reference to.

The last trip to catch the T home is somewhere around midnight, so with them being Boston boys, I'm sure that is where it comes from.

I also think its about pot to some extent, but its a fairly straightforward song.

General Comment:To me this is about the buzz you get when your at a party or whatever, and its 5 minutes to the end. Everyone wants to get with everyone and everyone is drunk and music is louder etc etc. haha.
Anyway as its 5 minutes to midnight, hes thinking of hooking up with this girl before the end and then hopefully she will come home with him.
    its so catchy!!

General Comment:i think this song is about drugs.

"Brown eyes and lungs are filled up with smoke
Fast lives are stuck in the undertow
But you know the places I wanna go"

when you smoke week your lungs fill up with smoke as do eyes. your lives are taken control. and you really don't remember much when you're high and you do whatever.

    "'Cause oh oh oh,
    I've got a sickness
    You've got the cure
You've got the spark I've been lookin' for
And I've got it planned we walk out the door"

sickness-loneliness. stress. grades. heartbreak. loss. frustration.
    cure-drugs.
    spark, drugs.
walk about the door, get high.

"You Know You wanna just let go,
It's time to roll down the windows
    Sing it oh oh oh
    We got all we need
    So here we go"

    let go. get high.
roll down the windows. don't want the smell inside the car.
got all we need; weed. bowl. lighter.

    "Turn it up
    It's five minutes to midnight
You're comin' home with me tonight
I can't get enough, shakin' me up
    Turn it up
    Alright
    At five minutes to midnight
You see our name in city lights
    We'll make the clock stop
    Make your heart drop
    And come alive"

it's almost time to go home. we need to finish this up. can't get enough of the weed. it's shaking me up. i want/need it so bad. see our name in city lights. you're high. hallucinating. when you're high you feel so alive.

    "We could pack up
And leave all our things behind
No fact, or fiction, or storyline
'Cause I need you more than just for tonight"

leave. finish what we started. go with the flow. do whatever. need you to help me with my addiction.

"You're oh oh all i care
I can't stop my breathing in
I'm weak and you are my medicine
I won't stop till I am under your skin"

can't stop with this high. need to keep going. this is my medicine, my drug. i need you to help me get higher.

"And when the clock strikes twelve
Will you find another boy to
    Go and kiss and tell
'Cause you know I never will
I think we should strike a match
And we'll hold it to the wind to
    See how long it lasts
We can make the time stand still"

when it's 12 will you leave me go home and find some other boy another day to smoke with? you light matches to light the weed see how long it lasts with the wind and make time stand still and have it stay.

    yeahhh.
