Breaking Benjamin – Breath

  My Interpretation:I'm finding many lines in Breath to have double meanings, and though it's written rather vaguely, it's beautiful once your mind can conjure up an interpretation that means something to you. At times the singer will sing one line, then come back with something that negates it, or give the preceding line a different meaning (the intro is a good example of this). Most if not all of the phrases should be taken as the metaphors they are and not literally. "You take the breath right out of me" is an obvious metaphor for thinking so highly of someone that they completely subdue you in their presence. "You left a hole where my heart should be" is the resulting pain coming out of the assumed relationship—of whatever sort—the singer had. "You gotta fight just to make it through" is the pain and strife in getting through a pensive state, thinking of them; but growing stronger afterwards. "Cause I will be the death of you" is how the singer feels he would impact this person's life should they be together; how he would only be her downfall or ruination in some way. I think this song is a perfect example of the paradoxical nature of some love, singular love, how it comes in many forms and needs to be balanced properly, at times meaning it can't go both ways. I really really absolutely dig the melody throughout this song, primarily at the chorus. It amplifies the thoughts and memories the lyrics raise in my head. It helps me get through brooding, pensive states. Strength lies beyond weakness.

  My Interpretation:This is not a song about murder.
  
  This is a song about a 20 year old boy, serving in the army, who was poisened with potassium cyanide by some guy the boy didn't even know.
  
  He awoke in the hospital relying on the painful machines to breath for him.
  
  The military brutaly interogated him and accused him of attempting suicide. His career was over.
  
  When they found a suspect, the military laughed at the boy because the suspect was sleeping with the boys new wife.
  
  There has been no justice for this boy.
  
  After 30 years the boy, a ruined man, finds truth that starts to surface.
  
  Not only did the guy try to poisen him, but there were other plots to end the boys life. A boy the guy didn't even know.
  
  Many many people in town have always known of this incident, but their identies are protected.
  
  There has never been any justice for that soldier... that 20 year old boy.
  
  This is an interpitation.
  The interpitation is 100% true.

  My Interpretation:These are the OFFICIAL lyrics so um ya:) and what i mean by him/her (s)he is that like the lead singer which of course in this song is benjamin burnley but this goes for all the songs i comment on..... and this song might be about love most likly.
  
  I see nothing in your eyes, and the more I see the less I like.(no emotion in maybe a lover,family,friend,ect. and he or she is starting to hate him/her more)
  Is it over yet, in my head?(having an emotional breakdown probally)
  I know nothing of your kind, and I won't reveal your evil mind.(the evil kind is probaly the people who break hearts and what not could be anything and (s)he doesnt want to see the other side of that person or their more evil ways X3)

  General Comment:This song is pretty self explanatory...but yeah its open for any type of interpretation but its strongly emphasized from a relationship... the part when ben says i'm waiting, i'm praying, realize...start hating is like the most emotional part, hes waiting for the girl to change, make up her mind and he realizes that she didnt in the end and he hated her at the end and closes of the song with the chorus left with hate.

  My Interpretation:I'm very late to this discussion but I'm thinking this song is about a woman in an unhappy marriage and he is/was her lover…and she chose the marriage over him. It’s heading for divorce but not quite there yet….and she’s stopped their relationship...maybe w/promises it will resume after the divorce.
