Your mail's not safe in this town
Your mail's not safe in this town
Your mail's not safe in this town
Your mail's not safe in this town

A cigarette burn on your face
I pour the kerosene in your mouth
I watch the ash fall down your throat
I'll burn all your precious bills
Watch the smoke fold for every crack
Breathe in your secret lives
All your bills pay your welfare checks
But I don't think I can sleep alone
With this last war always ending in ash

Your mail's not safe in this town
Your mail's not safe in this town
Your mail's not safe in this town
Well I'm taking this town back

I watch the smoke start to rise
One hundred homes one hundred fires
Everything you own now burned away
This town is no longer mine its fucked with me for the last time
How I wish that I could see your face

Withered sky is streaked with plumes
Know that it's my signature upon this wretched fucking city
Mailbox arson, my sweet revenge
Mailbox arson, my sweet revenge

Strike a match and burn away every tie that binds me to this place
Strike a match and burn away every tie that binds me to this place
I will strike a match and burn away every tie that binds me to this place
Strike a match and burn away every tie that binds me to this place.

When the smoke clears
You can consider us anything

Your mail's not safe in this town
Your mail's not safe in this town
Your mail's not safe in this town
I'm taking this town back

I watch the smoke start to rise
One hundred homes one hundred fires
Everything you own now burned away
This town is no longer mine it's fucked with me for the last time
How I wish that I could see your face

General Comment:The song is about Hamilton Ontario Canada. The Red Bird he is talking about is a brand of matches that came in a big box with a redbird on it called redbird.

The song is about his revenge on Hamilton, and the fucked up city that it is.

General Comment:I think there's an underlying current of hatred for their hometown that runs all the way through Crisis. I mean, besides this song which is obviously about getting revenge on a place that's held you down or fucked you around or whatever by setting mailboxes alight, there's This Could Be Anywhere and We are the Sound AND We are the End. All three of those songs talk about being outcasts or about the general shittiness of the townsfolk ("Look around, there's no affection, only infection", "We are the sound, we don't belong").

General Comment:Hmm I always thought it was about someone hating their home town so much and leaving. Then still feeling attatched years later, so they come back and burn mailboxes (possible of specific people who still live in the town from years ago who made their lives hell?) and get their revenge for their town being such a horrible haunting memory. "When the smoke clears you can consider us even"

    General Comment:First, awesome song.

Second, well, I think this song is talking about the October Crisis... more specifically, how the FLQ would place bombs in mailboxes of and use motlov cocktails to blow up anything Anglo-Saxon. They were a pretty angry bunch and didn't like English Canada one bit. In fact, they wanted everything english out of Quebec and make the province a country.

So yes, this is song IS about lighting some f'n mailboxes on fire. At least to me.

General Comment:LOL it was so funny reading people's dumb comments about how the song has some fucked up hidden meaning, then people come in who know what they're talking about and just go "It's just about lighting some fucking mailboxes on fire!"

    General Comment:Reyynolds is right;;
George stated in an interview that this song is merely about burning down mailboxes as a form of revenge.. theres nothing more to it.
Its a great song, my favourite off the album (:

General Comment:Jeez, people, this song isn't some deep and hidden mystery wrapped in an enigma like some other songs. It is what it is; a guy going around setting mailboxes on fire. Probably because he's pissed for whatever reason.

pretty sure dallas said it was just about burning mailboxes
