Redneck Lyrics
So goddamn easy to write this
You make it spill on the page So drunk on yourself, self-righteous A laughing stock of your own fucking stage Oh but I ain't one to call names Or throw stones in a house of glass You try me This is a motherfuckin' invitation The only one you could ever need This is a motherfuckin' invitation You try me Just one time you got a reason Heard you had nothing to lose A blind preacher for the pin-eyed congregation It must be easy to lose Oh but I ain't one to call names Or throw stones in a house of glass You try me This is a motherfuckin' invitation The only one you could ever need This a motherfuckin' invitation You try me You can tell the same lie a thousand times But it never gets any more true So close your eyes once more and once more believe That they all still believe in you Just one time This is a motherfuckin' imitation The only one you could ever need This a motherfuckin' invitation Just one time This is a motherfuckin' invitation Ya' try me Just one time(ya' try me) Just one time(ya' try me) Ya' try me |

Anyways, on to the meaning of the song. I'm not really sure exactly. The chorus confuses me the most since its so vague. Still, I think this has to do with someone (a leader of sorts) losing his power and the faith of his people. Personally, I think its pointing specifically to Bush (its never been a secret that Lamb of God doesn't really approve of him).
It's also interesting to note the name when thinking of this meaning. Since Bush came from Texas, the name could very well be calling Bush a "Redneck."
I kinda think this song came about from Bush's low approval rating. That might be what the break is about. Bush tries to pretend that the American citizens still believe in him, but he's only lying to himself and that doesn't make it anymore true.
Just my thoughts.

"We made a deliberate effort not to be so politically motivated this time. We still care about and think about those things, but at this point, creatively, we wanted to step out of that for a moment, and address some other things." - Mark Morton, Lamb Of God.
That means it isnt about Bush kids.
I read somewhere, one of the members also saying this song was a title before they wrote any of it, but it just work because it was a typically Southern sounding song, well something along them lines. (That said, it clearly isnt a song about how proud they are to be from the South, so don't throw that one up either).
As for what this song means, it reminds me of Pariah. Someone the song writter strongly dislikes but won't name.

Still, if its not about Bush, it still reminds me of someone fooling themselves into thinking people respect themselves. Hence the, "Laughing stock of your own fucking stage." Especially the break too. Still don't know know who its about exactly, but maybe its not a specific person. Maybe its about the way some people act. Not sure.
Anyone understand the chorus? I'm still trying to figure out what it could mean.

"So God damn easy to write this
Ya' think it'd spill on the page
So drunk on yourself, self-righteous
A laughing stock of your own fucking stage"
that makes it pretty obvious that he is clearly writing about a musician considering he refers to song writing and performing on stage and so forth...
"This is a motherfuckin' imitation
The only one you could ever need
This a motherfuckin' invitation
You try me"
he sounds exactly like phil anselmo on this track, its a very panter-ish sound as a whole. hence the line 'this is a motherfucking imitation'.
i could continue but i dont see the need, this song is totally about phil. its like a song saying 'sorry pantera, but lamb of god are the new fucking kings whether you like it or not'. LoG rules

Maybe its not about Phil, but what Phil was: a frontman for a band. Maybe its about how the singers of bands let their egos get to big. That could explain the...
"Oh but I ain't going to call names
Or throw stones in a house of glass"
That line right there might be saying that he's a frontman too, so he can't be calling names and throwing stones because he'd be mocking himself too. The second line of that goes with a phrase I've heard before. I can't remember where I heard it, but it goes something along these lines.
"Those living in a glass house shouldn't throw stones, or else it may be reciprocated." Meaning those who are vurnerable shouldn't attack others.
By the way, I've listened to the song pletny of times, and I'm pretty sure he says, "This is a motherfuckin' invitation," both times. I could be hearing wrong though.

Ya' think it'd spill on the page
Should be
You make it spill on the page.
Randy never says imitation in the entire song, it's always invitation.
but I ain't going to call names
Should be
But I ain't one to call names
And that's "Blind preacher".
Otherwise, it's all good
But the elimation of imitation might limit the Phil Anselmo references.

Just one time(ya' try me)
Just one time(ya' try me)
i dont know but it does seem like hes pointing the song at either one person or frontmen all together

Most of that's probably nothing, but I'm just trying to come up with some ideas.
(by the way, I agree with you Perished God. It does seem like he's aiming the song at frontmen all togther, thus the line about not calling any names.)
