Pick apart
The pieces of your heart
And let me peer inside
Let me in
Where only your thoughts have been
Let me occupy your mind
As you do mine

You have lost
Too much love
To fear, doubt and distrust
Its not enough
You just threw away the key
To your heart

You don't get burned
Cause nothing gets through
It makes it easier
Easier on you
But that much more difficult for me
To make you see

Love ain't fair
So there you are
My love

Your heart's a mess
You won't admit to it
It makes no sense
But I'm desperate to connect
And you, you can't live like this

Your heart's a mess
You won't admit to it
It makes no sense
But I'm desperate to connect
And you, you cant't live like this

Your heart's a mess
You won't admit to it
It makes no sense
But I'm desperate to connect
And you cant't live like this

Love ain't safe
You won't get hurt if you stay chaste
So you can wait
But I don't wanna waste my love

Song Meaning:It never ceases to amaze me how much people read into crap that's not even there. The meaning of this song is quite clear:

The singer is in love with someone who's been burned in relationships so many times that he or she has locked their heart up and thrown away the key. He's desperately trying to get through to the person, to help them heal, because you can't survive without love. But it's getting harder and harder to deal with, so he's pleading with her to give in, the alternative being that he will leave and find someone else, because he has so much love to give but can no longer waste it on someone who can't give it back.

    Pretty straight-forward.

General Comment:I think this is a satire about modern people and their various follies.

The lyrics make it seem like its a sorrowful lament song, to an extent. However a few lyrics stand out as odd to me... However when coupled with the official video its obvious.

The prophet comes down from his place on high (the moon at the beginning), with his dark assistant in tow. He opens his eyes and surveys the landscape, broken and weary as it is. The prophet (a pied piper sort of figure) and crew stride across the land, dropping a veil of darkness wherever they tread. Note the jackal-esque soldiers at the beginning...

Soon the prophet meets the inhabitants of this dark and dreary realm. They are tired souls trapped in their tired lives. They are:
    1) The sick man on crutches, simply craving relief.
    2) The poverty stricken pelican and droplets, aching for a better life.
    3) The lonely woodsman, tired of raping the environment.
    4) The angry wrecking ball, wishing not to destroy but create.
    5) The scared capitalist, aboard a sinking ship and wanting escape
    6) The tragic skeleton, seeking to begin anew. (had the life sucked from her)

His disciples gathered, they stand upon his shoulders and ascend to the heavens. Where the moon is. Where the prophet came from.

And then the world was dark.

I.E. - The prophet is the modern culture of excess and those who perpetuate its illusion, and the prophet figure is whisking them away. Read the lyrics and watch the video after reading this post, you'll understand I'm sure :)

General Comment:I think you've got it pegged D.S.M. . I think he's telling us all our hearts are a mess. we won't admit to it, and it makes no sense cause we easily point out others flaws. we need to work on ourselves. i think he wants us to wake up. I feel that's why there is so much emphasis on the word "CONNECT".

General Comment:Looking simply at the lyrics, it is made clear that a woman has been heartbroken in some horrible way, and a male friend, who loves her with all his heart, wants her to open up to him. This fact has been made clear by users like McMuffin and Tybow. However, it goes a little deeper than that, in my opinion. If we look at the music video that accompanies this song, it shows dark imagery, similar to that of death, especially near the end. The end shows the group climbing on top of one another as they attempt to grab a dead man's leg as his body (or soul) is lifted into the sky.

Through this music video, I think it is made clear that this heartbreak is not just from a simply breakup, but because of a death of a loved one. This death caused the woman to shut herself away from people, possibility even making her blame herself for his death. This is why, I feel, the lyrics portray this woman as being closed off from other people, and not wanting to engage in affairs of the heart any longer, fearing that her actions might hurt her or someone else again. "Love ain't safe / You won't get hurt if you stay chaste / So you can wait / But I don't wanna waste my love."

    Just a thought. :)

General Comment:Since this is art, and damn good art at that, this can be about any relationship you care to imagine.

For example, imagine this is a love song sung by God to the entirety of humanity. I don't care if you are a Christian, atheist, Buddhist, etc. just do it as a thought exercise. Start reading the lyrics and imagine God does exist, and he's just like anyone else in a relationship with another entity that has free will, etc.

    It's beautiful. :)

General Comment:In my opinion , this song is about a little of everything.
    For exemple, the clip.
The clip has such a deep meaning, the first thing that follows him represents the effects of war, the injured and blind pelican represents our treatment of the animals we share the planet with, that thing that has wood on his back represents deforestation, the wrecking ball monster represents our need to destroy and create, the serpent in the business suit is his views on capitalism, the skeleton represents our life being sucked from us and there's spider web that connects them all.

So I think this song it's about what we humans did/are doing with the world, it's really sad when we think about it, isn't it?
