I've tried to come to some conclusion of all the possibilities this song could be about. I absolutely love the lyrical content of this song. But I still find a sensual meaning to it. I think that this person corrupts someone innocent, but it's not in a bad way. He shows her a side that she was completely naive to originally. Which may represent the Little Red Riding Hood aspect. But the more immersed they become in the sex, the more he realizes this girl is a reflection of him. So there becomes this unity between them and this binds them. And this sexuality compatibility is beyond mind blowing. And more than it becoming a shallow sexual encounter, it becomes passionate encounter and a release of the inner soul almost.

Richard Kingsmill (the main music person at Triple J, Australia's biggest alternative radio station. he's pretty much the pope of indie music in Aus) just put Wolf Like Me at #6 in his top 100 songs of all time. Fair call, i reckon. brilliant song.

Good God I love this song so much. The layer's to it are remarkable and It's one of the first TVOTR songs i just kept playing over an d and over and over again. I mean come on, who can't get into the topic of werewolf sex, that's just a topic to end all topics. I have to agree with Seatbelts much earlier comment. I just FEEL that the song screams about corruption, but not in a necessarily bad way. I for one subscribe to the view that all mankind is inherently bad, myself included. Not so much immoral, more like amoral. We dress ourselves up in all ouf our piety, righteousness, and percieved moral accountability, when were only dressing ourselves in the skins of sheep (yay for Biblical allusions). I just get from this song the kind of insane joy that springs from such a revelation, that's only topped by bringing another person to that revelation as well, as the narrator has done to this girl. Oh so much fun, the howling at the end isn't so much out of despair or sadness, simply something like pure revelry.

I think it's about a sex addict. "Got a curse I cannot lift." "When the moon is round and full" he goes through a transformation and can't control himself. "Charge me your day rate" makes me thinks he hired a hooker and he taught her tricks that blew her "mongrel mind."

At the end, he turns a girl into a sex addict "got a curse we cannot lift."

Think about it and read the lyrics. I'm not saying I'm right, it's just my interpretation.

(as someone who is covered in hair, is a white guy with dreads (Rasta's call that a "wolf"), has strong insomniac tendencies around full moons, has a reputation of earning respect from dogs with reputations for biting everyone and everything, shakes off after a shower, etc.)

On the one hand, this song can definitely be about sex, especially the midsection and the last bit about Red Riding Hood. But on the other, it seems like sex and drugs is just the standard answer for every song meaning, and I think there's more to the lyrics than that. It's really about the beast inside everyone, about the victim/partner of such a beast becoming a beast as well. What the "beast" is a metaphor for is up to the listener. You could take the song as being about sex, or drugs, or crime, or anything that goes against civilized nature, and it still works. You could even put the metaphor on the back burner and just run with it being a werewolf song. However you take it though, it's one hell of a song.

i think this song is about basically undressing
undressing physically and mentally
taking off all society's "clothes" which hide the dirty secrets of human beings, and also physically
so without clothes and our inhibitions what are we?
we become animals "your a hideous thing inside"

specifically its teaching and showing a girl to forget society and everything, so we're both left with just our animal instincts, our "genetic memories"

and live with total and utter disregard for a night
