Easy Lyrics
What's a boy to do?
When you tell your tale And it never fails I just end up feeling bad for you. With your hang-dog eyes You can bring me down Now I'm wrapped around your whole hand Stop looking so surprised. You make it easy (Easy) Make it easy (Easy) I've been burned before You're not fooling me There's no mystery You've forgotten what you're hiding for. Call it self defense You can obfuscate And manipulate But it's only at your own expense. You make it easy (Easy) Make it easy (Easy) Make it easy (Easy) Make it easy (Easy) Easy to be with you Easy to obey Easy to forgive you at the end of the day Easy now to judge you Easy to betray Easy to adore you though you want to run away. It's easy Look what you have done I can do the same Two can play this game You'll no longer be the only one. You make it easy (Easy) Make it easy (Easy) Make it easy (Easy) Easy (Easy)

By the second verse the protaganist is starting to open up their eyes, and judging by past failures is well aware where this relationship is going to end up. Every time the object of their desire tries something new to get the protaganist back without making a full commitment it just makes the protaganist more and more aware.
By the bridge the protaganist has finally opened up their eyes and reached their conclusion knowing what he/she already knows from previous mistakes. So instead of waiting for it to get there slowly and painfully the protaganist takes action into his/her own hands and is now using their own type of manipulation to get back at the former object of his/her desire.
I think that the chorus is all about how easy it is to fall into and out of love. At first it's easy to love somebody, they make it easy with every smile and every blink of their eyes. But then every time that they don't pick you, and every time they look to you for emotional support without giving more than their problems they make it easy to fall out of love with that person.

This has to be one of the WORST songs I've heard in a long, long time. I can't even think about the meaning of this, because of the unbelievable repetitivness of the the chorus. Seriously, how many times does he say "make it easy" in this song - 40 times? 50 times? I just can't stand songs where they just give up trying to write decent lyrics. If you can't use your imagination, make it an instrumental song!
droidac, the only reason u have given for this song being bad is that it repeats itself at the chorus (what a rookie mistake eh?) and that the lyrics aren't up to your personal standard, if u listened to most of the crap found in the top 100 u would find much worse songs to criticise for their lyrical content than this as well as most songs being nowhere near as good as 'easy' musically, so unless u have a valid reason for a song as good as this being "one of the worst songs i've heard in a long, long time" i suggest u go write better lyrics or go fuck yourself

Yes, repetition at this level this song has DOES make it a bad song. Lyrics repeat endlessly, as does the music - same melody over and over. That shows a lack of creativity. Trance music can get away with it because of it’s intensity – this is lacking in that quality. I hardly think that constitutes a "rookie mistake". I'll be willing to bet that I've been listening to music longer than you've even been alive. I've studied music history and structure for several years, so instead of resorting to telling me what to do sexually with myself, why don't you please explain what makes this song so great, with your infinite wisdom? And please, see if you can answer without resorting to flaming.

The subject matter has been done before I’m sure, but how many songs have been written before, and what are the chances of writing completely original lyrics?
I don’t know where you are - but living in Scotland, this song never even comes near a radio playing so it’s good to hear this genre for a change
The repetition of this song creates a peaceful tone; surprisingly enough, a song can repeat to give other justified effects than intensity. The lyrics also repeat to build up to a bridge section in which he explains what is 'easy':
Easy to be with you
Easy to obey
Easy to forgive you at the end of the day
Easy now to judge you
Easy to betray
Easy to adore you though you want to run away.
By holding back the full meaning of this chorus lyric, the bridge section has a larger lyrical impact on the listener.
When saying the word 'easy' during the chorus, long, extended notes are used which give the chorus this relaxed mood.
The verse is quite different melodically from the chorus; the progression to the second verse has much more of an impact than the first verse due to the chorus preceding it, the drummer also introduces the use of his snare drum in verse 2 to put the song into a 'standard' rhythm which drives the song forward - the song has small changes like this which all build up until the bridge. Although it's not exactly an 'intense' build up, it is gradual and gives the mood of this song.
Being a guitarist, I also appreciate the skill and melody of the rhythm guitar as well as the lead guitar's sound and 'more is less' approach.
I also appreciated the skill and melodies of the vocalists.
There are a few reasons why I like this song and I'm really sorry for the last line I wrote in my previous comment - I was having a bad day.

Mr. Hippo, you made some good points, so I went back and gave the song another chance. Listening to it on a decent stereo as opposed to the crappy system at work, yes, this song is actually not too bad. Still far from my favorite, but pretty decent.
Just as you were having a bad day when you first replied, so was I when I first posted. I live in Canada where we have content regulations that state 36% of all music played on the radio must be Canadian, that's why they play BNL quite a bit. the crappy station that they play at the office was playing this song several times a day. Multiple plays+bad sound system=poor impression of the song.
It would be nice if people could refrain from personal attacks and lets just talk about the music (good and bad)!
