Well you're the closest thing, I have, to bring up in a conversation
About love that didn't last, but I could never call you mine
Cause I could never call myself yours, and if we were really meant to be
Well then we'd justify destiny, it's not that our love died it just never really bloomed

No I can't let go, no I can't let go of you
You're holding me back without even trying to
I can't let go, I can't move on from the past
Without lifting a finger you're holding me back

And then we saw our past, diverge, and I guess I felt okay about it
Until you got with another man, and then I couldn't understand
Why it bothered me so, no we didn't die we just never had a chance to grow.

I can't let go, no I can't let go of you
You're holding me back without even trying to
I can't let go, I can't move on from the past
Without lifting a finger you're holding me back

And it might not make sense
To you or any of my friends
But somehow still you affect the things I do
And you can't lose what you never had
I don't understand why I feel sad
Every time I see you out with someone new

I can't let go, no I can't let go no I can't let go of you
I can't let go, no I can't let go of you
You're holding me back without even trying to
I can't let go, I can't move on from the past
Without lifting a finger you're holding me back

I can't let go, no I can't let go of you
You're holding me back without even trying to
I can't let go, I can't move on from the past
Ooooooh

Memory:This is exactly what I am going through. I was a rebound to a girl whom I was friends with. It started off fairly casual but then feelings started to come out. My feelings for her were so much stronger, and she decided we should not be in a relationship but be friends. My feelings never faded and she wanted to date other people. So now I hold on to a love I thought was there but it never really bloomed into what I had hoped. Now she is dating others and it's tearing me apart and she probably has no idea how much it is hurting me and how much she can do to me without even trying.

à From the first stanza, it seems that it’s easy to say that this song can be understood easily, but it’s not. Actually, you can make a story out of it. When you analyze the first line of the song as it goes this way... "well you're the closest thing, i have, to bring up in a conversation"... We can assume two (2) instances here: 1.) that the guy as well as the girl in particular started as friends, and that friendship developed into a deeper level of love and the sad part is that, it didn't work out well 2.) that they are indeed close friends but here it comes the unexpected feeling that the guy felt for that girl and he is shy to express his feelings for that girl, as the song continues…“about love that didn't last, but i could never call you mine, cause i could never call myself yours, and if we were really meant to be, well then we'd justify destiny, it's not that our love died it just never really bloomed"… Only in this part, that we can already affirm the first instance that I’ve mentioned, to be true.

“And then we saw our past, diverge... and i guess i felt okay about it.
Until you got with another man, and then I couldn't understand
why it bothered me so, no we didn't die we just never had a chance to grow.”

à In this stanza, from the first line of it as it goes… “And then we saw our past, diverge... and i guess i felt okay about it.” It this view the guy seems to be okay with their break up but, as the song continues… “ Until you got with another man, and then I couldn't understand why it bothered me so.”… It’s so clear that the guy still loves the girl, that we can agree in the saying, ”absence makes the heart grow ponder,” then he just make calm of himself by saying, “no we didn't die we just never had a chance to grow”… apparently, the guy can’t deny or lie on himself anymore or in any matter per se, for in this phrase, the intensity of love is so visible.

“I can't let go, no i can't let go of you
you're holding me back without even trying to
i can't let go, i can't move on from the past
without lifting a finger you're holding me back”

àThe chorus part of this song makes me think and stop for a moment. Though it’s already given that the guy indeed loves the girl so much, we can say that this love is not mutual, for the girl doesn’t love him. I can say this for these two reasons: 1.) you're holding me back without even trying to 2.) without lifting a finger you're holding me back… So, that’s the reason for him saying that he can’t let go off that girl and that he can’t move on from the past.

“and it might not make sense
to you or any of my friends
but somehow still you affect the things i do
and you can't lose what you never had
    i don't understand why i feel sad
Every time i see you out with someone new”

àIn this stanza, the guys is saying that though his emotions or to be more particular, his love for that girl doesn’t matter for her (the girl he loves) anymore, still, for him, it does affects him much in everything he do. I felt pity for the guy in this line, “and you can't lose what you never had i don't understand why i feel sad every time i see you out with someone new” for this line reminds me the intensity of how he loves the girl so much. The guy is so awful though, he must accept the fact that we can’t have all the things in this world, that indeed, there’s no permanent, that all is just temporary and so, he must let go and find another love where he could fit in not because of pretension, but through genuine love.

General Comment:i'm pretty sure its "well then we just defied destiny" it makes much more sense cuz he's not talking about how he wishes he could be with her really i think its more of i am not over you and i don't know why..... love this song

Song Meaning:Clearly, this is a song about love. And a song that most all of us can relate to. This song is about two people who were never together but maybe liked each other a lot. But she ends up with someone else. It's a song about what COULD have been, not what was or what will be, which is what I love so much about it. It's not like most love songs in that EVERYONE can relate to it. :) Landon Pigg is a great musician.

General Comment:For every year of a relationship, it takes me about seven to let them go.

General Comment:It's about two people who haven't yet gotten or never will get the chance to see their love happen. For whatever reason, it just didn't get there in the time that they had. Maybe they went to different colleges, got different jobs, families moved. They're still in contact, just not as close any more. Whatever. He still holds on to the hope that it might still work out, even if they see other people in the meantime. God, I wish I didn't have to know what that has felt like for the last 4 years.
