Lyrics for All I Need as interpreted by black_cow_of_death

All I Need Lyrics
I am the next act waiting in the wings
I am an animal trapped in your hot car
I am all the days that you choose to ignore

You are all I need
You are all I need
I am in the middle of your picture
Lying in the reeds

I am a moth who just wants to share your light
I’m just an insect trying to get out of the night
I only stick with you because there are no others

You are all I need
You are all I need
I am in the middle of your picture
Lying in the reeds

It's all wrong
It's all right
It's all right
It's all wrong
It's all right
It's all right
It's all right

Some people seem to think this is not a love song but for me it definitely is! It's one of those loves when you love the other person so much that it hurts, they are all you need. "I stick with you because there are no others" Him and this girl understand each other, and there is no one else in the world who could even compare. "I am in the middle of your picture" They are one with each other, he is in her picture, and they wouldn't be complete without each other. It's not glamorous or a typical love story, it's just real life love - the way people really feel when they fall in love. :)

Personally, to me this song is about someone revealing their devotion to someone else
while the other person doesn't care about them.

"I am the next act waiting in the wings" - to me this means that he's patiently waiting
for her to notice him and possibly be her next relationship.
"I am an animal trapped in your hot car" - sort of falls into the "devotion" part i mentioned
earlier. Like how you can treat your dog really bad but he still loves you. I know it's a pretty
bad comparison but yea.
"I am all the days that you choose to ignore" - means all the days this person dislikes and doesn't
want to take part of and wishes they'd just disappear, falls into how he thinks she feels about him.
When the chous says "You are all I need" literally means what it says. she is all he needs. However,
the "im in the middle of your picture" part confuses me.

"I am a moth who just wants to share your light" - means that he wants to be part of what makes
her survive but she doesn't accept it...? idk this one confuses me.
"I'm just an insect trying to get out of the night I only stick with you because there are no others" -
means that he's trying to escape loneliness and sticks with her because she makes him comlplete.

the ending repition shows the confusion he has on whether to continue liking her or
to just give up. I think the song means this because it's exactly what I felt when
I really liked this guy who paid no attention to me, yet I maintiained that undeniable attraction.

All in all, Radiohead is amazing!

I am an animal trapped in your hot car is the most brilliant line ever! What a way to describe this type of apparent unrequited love. They just blow my mind, every time, every line, every song. <3

I think that this wonderful, terrible song is about addiction. This is way beyond love.

Thom talking as other people using the word I. Thom using the word you for the chorus.

From my point of view, he's speaking about a sexual relationship with a girl who just want sex, the guy obviously want more.

It's easy to assume the narrator is male because that's the singing voice we hear. But there's nothing definite in the lyrics about it being a male. I interpreted first as female...maybe becuase I am female and I was relating to it. The lyrics do have a very simplistic vagueness about them that is highly relatable. Simple as the words are, they have a highly poetic feel to them, even without all the melodies that make it beautiful.
It could go either way, and because we dont get a lot of detail on the situation of this person...there's less specifics to cut listeners out of the scenario. We listen and think, "man, this is my life" In the end, that's usually why we like songs.

im not entirely sure about this
but to me this song is about stockholm syndrome http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome
because even though the narrator is neglected 'i am an animal trapped in your hot car'
he/she still feels loyalty 'you are all i need'
and the line 'i only stick with you because there are no others' could be because many abused/neglected people do not have friends or people that are their for them

I'd like to just say that if I ever get this song dedicated to me by a significant other in a romantic inclination and not platonic, I would faint of pleasure. Okay, maybe not that dramatic but the essence is that it would make my heart explode. Or something like that.

In my opinion the song is the exhausted expression of love for another. Intentions and valuing someone over everyone else doesn't always count (in my personal experience, it has never counted). One can just be a second choice or someone that can always be came back to.

Could this be about complacency? Or Forgetting the important things going on around us? Maybe complacency isn't the right word. It sneaks up on us. If we don't wake up and pay attention, we kind of let it latch on to us. It's kind of like a monster or a parasite. "You are all I need" Maybe that means we don't have to do much to let it in. In fact, we just have to do nothing.

The end: It's all wrong. It's all right. Repeated. More rights than wrongs. We tell ourselves everything is okay. Sometimes we let in the idea that things are also very horrible.

Its the narrator's shadow talking to its owner, everything he tries to deny about himself & doesn't like
You cant ignore me, you cant hide me, I am here I'm part of you and you NEED me
accept it & we can do it together

and in a cathartic burst of overload, both are untied for a complete moment of wholeness, fleeting glimpse of perfect bliss....ITS ALL WRONG/ITS ALL RIGHT/ Yin/Yang/ Us/Them Light/Dark -one in the same

i like how it is related to animals and bugs. the whole mood of the song is so deep and serious.
it seems as though he is addicted to someone.
it doesn't nessesarly relate to the actual song lyrics, but i suggest you watch the

unrequited love... one of the most popular song subjects I thinks...

I hate it... but after living with something that hurts you like unrequited love does, you can't do anything but hate it... but if you are experiencing it, all you want to do is cling to the pain, hold on to the misery...

you hate it but don't wanna let it go, like an tastless peice of gum... you just keep chewing thinking... this tastes like spit... and its not help being told over and over again that everyone is chewing the same type of gum... we all just want juciefruit

love sucks... I love it

Ok. I'm not sure if anyone has answered this.....but, this song is about yearning for someone/something. It's about him/someone thinking that all they need is that one person/thing, and everything will be alright for now. I love the line where he says " I am in the middle of your picture. Lying in the reeds......" It's another example at why Thom is amazing. And on another note....the last minute of this song is pure bliss...you need to listen to this song with a GOOD stereo system...and it will blow your mind beyond anything else. It gives me the goosebumps evertime.

To me...
This song is absolutely reminiscent to the on-and-off, tortuous, and miserable relationship I had for 4+ years with this guy...I wanted everything to do with him...and I was absolutley nothing to him..

"i'm in the middle of your picture, lying in the reeds" and "i only stick with you because there are no others" seem to be references to 'god' for me. i could be wrong, but i could easily see this song being directed towards a superior being. then again, it's more than likely simply an unconventional love song. just another opinion i suppose.
