So hold your head up high
And know it's not the end of the road
Walk down this beaten path before you
Pack your things and head home
At the end of the road
You'll find what you've been looking for

I know 'cause my feet have the scars to show
I was lost with vague direction
And no place to call home

It's time for you to press on
This is not your war
Set your sights to North and press on
This is not your escape
Wash away what they thought of you
Because in this place, we're all as good as dead
...End cycle...

Behind the mask you'll find yourself alone
It's not the end of road for you

General Comment:this is what a thinkkkk. :) I think this song is about just giving up on something. like people who consider suicide and things like that. people that think they just cant take it.

So hold your head up high and know, its not the end of the road.
-when things get tough, don't just give up on it, it isnt the end.

Walk down this beaten path before you pack your things and head home.
    - Just walk down the beaten path, because the end of the path holds what you've been longing for. whatever that may be. and Home as in like commiting suicide and going home to god.

At the end of the road, you'll find what you've been longing for.
    - If you just stay strong, you'll find what you've been longing for at the end of the tough journey.

I know because my feet have the scars to show, i was lost with vague direction and no place to call home.
    - Spencer had drugs issues. and he was homeless for a lot of his life and lived with different families. he was struggling, his feet have the scars to show that he has been down a really tough path also. And he got through it by not giving up and getting god's help, and now he has what he's wanted. and you can do that too. The point is, is to not give up when something is really tough, you can get through it with god's help.

this is just my opinion thouuuugh. (:

Lyric Correction:Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as much as I try, I don't hear "set your sights to North" and actually that sounds kinda dumb to me. Since the first time I've heard the song, I've heard "set your sights, set your sights to God." Even though every single site seems to say otherwise, I'm pretty sure this is correct. It seems to me this song is about not taking the path to sin and evil, but taking the long, difficult path to goodness (God). Just a thought :) Any support would be appreciated

General Comment:When my brother died, I listened to this song constantly EVERY DAY... I still listen to it atleast once a day... The song always gets to me, it lets me know that no matter what happens I can always get through things and that I don't need to escape my life to deal with my problems...

And for everyone crying about it being a Christian song, it doesn't HAVE to be a Christian song... A song's meaning is different for everyone so stop trying to say that they wrote this song to tell you to stay faithful to God etc. etc... Take the song, listen to it, feel it, and find your own meaning.. For me it's not giving up hope when EVERYTHING's gone wrong.

General Comment:i believe spencer was inspired to write this song because of his drug addictions. he is saying that there is hope and to look north (towards God). however, if you look at fault line, a fault of mine off of lost in the sound of separation, you can see how that song is a continuation of to whom it may concern. quite interesting if you listen to them back to back.

General Comment:i definitely think this song is about having something better to look forward to. basically, earth is "not the end of the road" (there's something more).

"at the end of the road (when you die), you'll find what you're looking for (meeting God/reaching heaven)". "i was lost...had no place to call home" (had no faith). "in this place, we're all as good as dead" - on earth, everyone dies.

i could be stretching it, but it's what makes the most sense to me.

General Comment:This song is not directly about something, like suicide. It's their hope song. From TOCS to Lost In The Sound, their albums have been essentially stories, and the last song is traditionally their hope song. This song is the kind of song that will have a different meaning for different people, but on the surface, it's about how there's hope, though it may not seem like it. It's about how people can spend what seems like their whole life looking for the hope, walking what appears to be nowhere, blind by the hate and sin in the world, but the hope is there, you just can't give up.

General Comment:I believe this song is about Spencer's recent addiction to drugs and how through God he can overcome the challenge of staying free from drugs. I believe that "This is not your escape" sort of says that the drugs are not a way to escape from the troubles of life. I believe that his addictions inspired him to write this piece, but it may not be about his addiction.

General Comment:I'm actually not a Christian but still, this song has helped me through some very difficult times when I've been feeling very low.
