Too late
Yeah baby it's too late
And time has made the spell obey
And now it's time to desecrate

But we had a dream
And it was meant to be
And we were kissing gods
Against all the odds

Now it's a crying shame
And it's a crying shame
You don't know who to blame
We'll never be the same
And it's a crying shame

Too much
And we demolished too much
And yeah we really fucked it up
And yeah baby you've lost your touch

But we had a dream
And it was meant to be
And we were kissing gods
Against all the odds

Now it's a crying shame
And it's a crying shame
You don't know who to blame
We'll never be the same
And it's a crying shame
And it's a crying shame

My Interpretation:A "crying shame" means something that's unjust and unfortunate, but here I think it's being used in a more cynical way. There's the line "But we had a dream / And it was meant to be" - but despite optimism, sometimes things don't go to plan, people don't get their happy ending. There's also a bit of resignation - "Now it's time to desecrate" - it's as if there's nothing to fight for now, so you might as well destroy it and start afresh. There's a bit of irony though, because "we demolished too much" - so maybe there might have been something to save after all, and that's perhaps the stinger, that despite what you do to try and improve the situation, it always ends up backfiring in some way. At least, that's what I read into it.

I think its mainly about how the human race had a chance to be so successful but "we've really fucked it up" by ruining the environment and becoming money-hungry economy fueled countries and because of that its now a crying shame.

General Comment:I think this song has a political undertone to it. Sort of how a country (US, UK, etc) which once was strong has now just decreased into a former shell of itself somewhere along the line, and its too late to really go back and improve things. Its gotten to the point where the people are desensitized by TV and they don't care or don't know what's going on, and corporations have the government in a choke hold, that kind of thing. The line "And its time to desecrate" could be a potential call for the people to rebel and change things themselves. "And we demolished too much / And yeah we really fucked it up" could mean possibly the destruction of wilderness and nature in favor of more suburbs or commercial buildings, or it could easily mean going to war and severely messing up. (And with this being a B-Side on the Black Holes and Revelations album, the theme would fit)

General Comment:Heh, "Crying shame" must be an idiom, it's a way of saying something's a really great shame, but I think it sounds quite ironic in this song myself. Shame as in disappointment, I'm pretty sure.

General Comment:Yep, "A Crying Shame" is a slightly ironic idiom in English that refers to a disappointment which is considered bad enough to provoke crying!

It's usually used these days in sarcasm, to imply that whatever the speaker is referring to isn't actually a shame at all.

    E.G. "Busted split up!"
    "Oh, what a crying shame."

General Comment:Doesn't anyone else besides me think that Muse sound a lot like The Killers in this song? Especially Matthew Bellamy's singing.

Anyway, I think the chorus of the song ("its a crying shame") is mocking whoever he's talking to. I dunno...I'm just hearing a total mocking tone from Matthew.
Sorry if I rambled a little bit. I need to SLEEP...

General Comment:crying - abominable ; shame - disappointment or regrettable fact

General Comment:Tell me, please, in what meaning is the word "shame" used here? Shame as dishonour or shame as disappointment? And why is it "crying"?
