Drag me by my ankles
To the bottom of the ocean
There I'll stay forever
Until you come back from England

The London bombs

I stayed up forever
Tried to call your number
But you were lost forever
In the early days of winter

The London bombs

Dirty little town on the Thames is calling you away

I stay up forever
Try to find the answer.
In the sun I wait for you

The London bombs

Dirty little town on the Thames is calling you away

The London bombs

General Comment:It's kinda interesting because both my girlfriend and I love this song, and it's "our song". When we started out I was living in Australia (in Sydney) and she was living in the US (I have since move to the states and I live with her now, but thats beside the point). I'm sure that neither of us, in our whole lives, will feel the pain and horror that was felt by those poor innocent people who were killed or injured as a result the London bombings...but that being said, on some level I think we can relate to the song.

I think its more about distance than anything else. The torture of everything that was going on with his girlfriend (who was supposedly in London at the time of the bombings), was worse than drowning at the bottom of the ocean (probably a reference to how the mob used to put people's feet in cement and then throw them in a lake or the ocean or whatever, to drown them)...and then the rest of it is about how he couldn't get onto her...and how what was going on in London was distracting her from being able to tell him that she was alright.

Great song, great singer, great band! Keep making good music Eskimo Joe!

General Comment:I LOVE this song, but did anyone else notice he pronounced Thames wrong?

He said 'Tames', when it's 'Tehms'

General Comment:I asked Kav if it was about the London bombings and he said yes. That's all I really know, we were too busy talking about poetry and stuff to get into details of it.

General Comment:well ive gotta say im not a huge fan of the band but this particular song stands out!

i read in earlier posts that its about him emailing his gf after the bombings which makes total sense, but when i hear this song i like to think that his lover has been killed (But you were lost forever, in the early days of winter) and that he waits for her (In the sun I wait for you) however she is never coming home! and he begins to resent london (Dirty little town on the Thames...)

thats the best thing about music and lyrics, everyone can interpret them in different ways!

General Comment:yeah everyone is on the right trail about the meaning of this song
kav was sitting in an internet cafe and was writting a very in deepth email to his then girlfriend or ex-girlfriend. after he sent the email she said to him she couldn't deal with what he had just said because some bombs had gone off down the road

General Comment:i heard that it was his girlfriend.
and that he was so so scared for her.
and because of all the commotion she hadn't contacted him.

but they're all just bits and pieces of the same story really.

    it's a beautiful song.

General Comment:I think HugsHoney is right. The song makes perfect sense when you think of it as him waiting for her to reply to his email.
