The time has come for you
To sit this out
To fit inside your mold
And would be to sell myself short

This ground we tread upon
Is now filling up our necks
We turn the pages left to right
We see everything

Oh, my story's growing, it is
On my last request
Don't make me feel so contradicting
There's no room for cheating and being
Yourself

Failure leaves such a bitter taste in their
Mouth

And on the last hour
We write so many new chapters again
And on the outside
Wehre there are no surprises

Oh, it's getting longer
To see it through their eyes
Would bring me so much closer
You can do this night after night
Failure leaves such a bitter taste in my
Mouth

Taste and see, I swear I know what's good
Be still and know that they won't lie to you
Every single time you're facing lies
I know why you never take your eyes off me
I've used my lungs for everything but
Breathing

I find myself dried up in this conversation
So pull me out, pull me aside

General Comment:I think this song may be about spencers cocaine addiction before he became a christian. And RockerChick 777 was right about the video, cocaine use only causes chaos.

"The time has come for you
    to sit this out
    To fit inside your mold
would be to sell myself short"

This is talking about him not caring about changing, and telling everyone trying to help him leave him alone or to "sit it out".

    "This ground we tread upon
We turn the pages left to right
Is now filling up to our necks
    We see everything"

This is talking about spencer getting better and making progress, and heading to the end of the book, meaning the struggle. And how the struggles are filling up to their necks.

"Oh, my story's growing and growing, it is
    on my last request
Don't make me feel so contradicting
There's no room for cheating and being yourself
Failure leaves such a bitter taste in their mouth"

This is how the struggles are getting longer, and how everyone is telling him about how much better the other life is away from drugs. It also talking about how failing to help spencer left a bitter taste in the peoples mouths who were trying to help him.

    "And on the last hour
we write so many new chapters again
    And on the outside
    where there are no surprises"

This is talking about him beginning his new life (new chapters), and how drugs can give you a horrible life, and its not like that away from drugs.

"Oh, it's getting longer and longer, come on.
to see it through their eyes
would bring me so much closer
You can do this night after night
Failure leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth"

This is once again all of the struggles on getting away from drugs. And how spencer would understand why people were wanting to help him if he could "see it through their eyes". Here is the big change. Now he's wanting people to help him night after night. Now he's actually caring about failing, and now he's wanting to change, and failure is starting to leave a bitter taste in his mouth.

"Taste and see, I swear I know what's good
Be still and know that they won't lie to you every single time you're facing lies"

This might be referring to spencer's half brother, or step brother. I can't remember which one he was. Anyway, h was a pastor, and this may be talking about him telling spencer how much better a christian life is, and how cocaine may make you feel better for a while, but in the end leaves you stuck with
the same problems, if not more.

"I know why you never take your eyes off me
I've used my lungs for everything but breathing"

Now he has got over his addiction. You need your lungs to help you snort cocaine, and how thats all he did before.

"I find myself dried up in this conversation
So pull me out, pull me aside"

Now he's saying he's finished that kind of life, reffered to as a "conversation", and he's asking god to pull him away from it.

Song Meaning:I think this song may be about spencers drug addiction.

"The time has come for you
    to sit this out
    To fit inside your mold
would be to sell myself short"

This refers to how spencer didnt want to search for help during his addictions.

    "This ground we tread upon
We turn the pages left to right
is now filling up to our necks
    We see everything"

This refers to spencer making progress in his steps out of his addictions.

"Oh, my story's growing, it is
    on my last request
Don't make me feel so contradicting
There's no room for cheating and being yourself
Failure leaves such a bitter taste in their mouth"

I think this is reffering to how hard it was to get better, and the people who were trying to help spencer had a bitter taste in their mouth when they failed.

    "And on the last hour
we write so many new chapters again
    And on the outside
    where there are no surprises"

This is reffering about how much better spencer felt when he was away from his addictions. It also refers to how much better the outside world is, and "no surprises" means how cocaine can cause things you don't want to see, and how its not like that on the outside.

    "Oh, it's getting longer
to see it through their eyes
would bring me so much closer
You can do this night after night
Failure leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth"

This is again talking about jis struggles of leaving drugs, and he wants to see wh people want to help him so bad. "failure leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth" Huge change, for now he is actually caring and wanting to get better.

"Taste and see, I swear I know what's good
Be still and know that they won't lie to you every single time you're facing lies
I know why you never take your eyes off me
I've used my lungs for everything but breathing"

I think this may refer to spencers step brother who helped him through his addictions, and him telling him how much better it is away from drugs.

"I find myself dried up in this conversation
So pull me out, pull me aside"

his days of doing drugs are over, and he is being pulled away from it and wanting to start a new life.

General Comment:i think the first verse means that he needs to do things on his own

The time has come for you
to sit this out, means that he doesnt want anyone to help him through the struggle, then

    To fit inside your mold
would be to sell myself short, means to sit there and let other people do things for him wouldnt do him any good

General Comment:i havent quite figure this whole song yet but i think that these parts say the main thing:
"Oh, my story's growing, it is" "We turn the pages left to right" "We see everything," "Failure leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth" It seems like he's talking about his life, the book of life and he's looking through the past of everything he's done(we turn the pages left to rihght). He is seeing all the mistakes he has made maybe just to fit in. He seems to be really ashamed of everything, of all hes failures, his mistakes and everything wrong that he has made and he doesnt like to talk about it, maybe cause he doesnt want to accept all these errors he made cause failure leaves such a bitter taste in his mouth and now, in the last hour, he has realized that, now he is opening hes eyes and seeing everything.(I find myself dried up in this conversation So pull me out, pull me aside) on this line it shows all the shame and how uncomfortable he feels talking about this because of the reasons i already said. The one thing i dont get is that it says"taste and see" i dont know what he means by that, and it seems like some one was telling him about that thing then he saw it and tasted it and then he is encouraging another person to try it... maybe is to look back at eveything and analyze and repent for everything he's done so he can feel that weight off and feel free... and thats why he says its good, i dont know....

General Comment:I've always thought that it sounded like Spencer is sick of failing with his drug and alcohol problem, hence the going backwardness of 'We turn the pages left to right', and maybe he's trying to have a stronger faith to get through it. On top of that it's like he's thinking that no matter what he does that people will always remember what he did before, and he has physical marks from it.

General Comment:I just need to point out that "turning the pages left to right" in a usual English book would be going backwards. If it's written in Hebrew, Arabic, Japanese, etc. then it is actually going in the correct direction.

General Comment:i think this whole cd or at least the majority of the songs are about his addiction just look at the song titles

"anyone can dig a hole but it takes a man to call it home"-alludes to anyone can start using drugs but it take a real man to admit he's addicted

"breathing in a new mentality"- could refer to inhaling smoke "like pot" and a person preseives things differently while high

"the end is near" his times for quitting is near, he want to end his addiction

"the created void"- his life is now nothing while using drugs, and he created it

"coming down is calming down"- he's going through withdrawals, and he's fighting the addiction and wants to turn back

"desperate times, desperate measures"- the addition got to him and he used again

"too bright to see, too loud to hear'- when he comes down from his trip or buzz or whatever and wind up hurt or overdoses from the drugs

"the end is here"- he finally kicks the drugs because he can see thats its not worth losing his life over

General Comment:this song is about having to conform to trends and not truely being yourself or doing what you think is right. and when you do conform sometimes it tears you up inside. it just preaches individuality. i agree with the whole story of jesus thing too, it just alludes it to life nowadays in todays youth.

    General Comment:Oh, it's getting longer
to see it through their eyes
would bring me so much closer
You can do this night after night
Failure leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth

I think that this means that he once saw how he was living without God and that has brought him so much closer to God. He is also talking about a friend who likes to party and sin every night and how he sees that as failure.
