We watched the season pull up its own stage
And catch the last weekend of the last week
Before the gold and the glimmer have been replaced
Another sun soaked season fades away
You have stolen my heart
You have stolen my heart
Invitation only grant farewells
Crash the best one of the best ones
Clear liquor and cloudy eyed, too early to say goodnight
You have stolen my heart
You have stolen my heart
And from the ballroom floor we are a celebration
One good stretch before our hibernation
Our dreams assured and we are; we'll sleep well
Sleep well
Sleep well
Sleep well
You have stolen my, you have stolen my
You have stolen my heart
I watch you spin around in the highest heels
You are the best one of the best ones
We all look like we feel
You have stolen my, you have stolen my
You have stolen my heart
And catch the last weekend of the last week
Before the gold and the glimmer have been replaced
Another sun soaked season fades away
You have stolen my heart
You have stolen my heart
Invitation only grant farewells
Crash the best one of the best ones
Clear liquor and cloudy eyed, too early to say goodnight
You have stolen my heart
You have stolen my heart
And from the ballroom floor we are a celebration
One good stretch before our hibernation
Our dreams assured and we are; we'll sleep well
Sleep well
Sleep well
Sleep well
You have stolen my, you have stolen my
You have stolen my heart
I watch you spin around in the highest heels
You are the best one of the best ones
We all look like we feel
You have stolen my, you have stolen my
You have stolen my heart

*The ending of a season, which is done automatically (“pull up it’s own”), and being symbolized by that of a tent (tents are pitched and taken down after an event which are most often fun times – symbolizing it is time to move on and the good times are over for now).
And catch the last weekend of the last week before the gold and the glamour have been replaced.
*One last weekend of “gold and glamour” – or ‘the good times’ before it’s all over.
Another sun-soaked season fades away.
*“Sun-soaked season” is referring to summer which is the season that is fading away and pulling “up it’s own stakes”. Fall / winter is coming and summer is ending.
You have stolen my heart. You have stolen my heart.
*A summer love, one that has captivated and overcome the speaker.
Invitation only, grant farewells, crushed the best one of the best ones.
*This part may have multiple meanings. The first meaning is more symbolic and deep routed. The invitation may be for one person who is the speaker's lover. He is finally allowing (inviting) her in to his heart right before it is time for them to part ("grant farewells"). This love, "the best one", is now crushed due to them parting ways.
The other meaning may be that there is an invitation only party where everyone invited will say their goodbyes. This party is to be the best party of the summer and they "crushed" it.
Clear liquor and cloudy eye, too early to say goodnight.
* Obviously, alcohol was involved (“clear liquor”) so it may be better suited to say it was a party with friends. When it comes time to say goodbye they begin to cry (“cloudy eye”). They feel that something like this shouldn’t end so soon but the sun is coming and the night has ended (“too early to say goodnight”). This is enhancing the hard time that they have separating from one another, the ending of summer and the end of their summer love. To them, it is ending too soon.
And from the ballroom floor we are in celebration.
*The best way to describe this is through a quote from Dr. Seuss. “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” They are celebrating the good times they had with each other and looking forward to many more in the future.
One good stretch before our hibernation.
*It’s the final party before it is time to head back home. The use of the word “hibernation” is clever. The word puts a calming tone to the thought of a dreadful winter. It also softens the thought of leaving the summer dream land and everyone there.
Our dreams assured, and we all, we'll sleep well.
*They are reassuring one another that everything will be OK once it comes time to leave. They are most likely saying to each other that they will see each other the following summer and pick up right where they left off – madly in love. “We’ll sleep well” may also have multiple meanings behind it. One being that they will sleep well knowing what they once felt with each other. Another may be that this coming and leaving is natural to the two lovers – something that happens every year and they have become comfortable with it. This, too, allows them to sleep well at night once they have gone.
Sleep well, sleep well, sleep well, sleep well.
*The repeated lines are a different and, in my opinion, a more soothing way of saying goodnight or goodbye. Instead of saying “goodnight” to your summer love, who you know you will not see the next day, telling her to “sleep well” is an attempt at keeping her mind off of what is actually happening – “goodbye”.
Watch you spin around in your highest heels, you are the best one of the best ones.
*Going back to the party, the speaker’s summer love is wearing heels, often associated with beauty and glamour – especially high heels. This, along with the following line of “you are the best one”, illustrates that she is the most beautiful girl at this party. However, the reference of the heels may also be symbolic of his lover’s beauty and she may only be wearing, say, sandles. The spinning around depicts that his girl is dancing, having a wonderful time while he is captivated by her and cannot look away or do anything else. These two lines bring out all of the feelings that he has for his summer love while not directly saying them.
We all look like we feel.
*If the two lines above are not the strongest in this song, this one certainly is. Thinking of your daily activities and the almost ‘robotic’ motions you fall in to. Many times no true or happy emotions are shown. We all get too caught up in work or school, depriving us from actually living. Now, that they are all together, they are alive again and have the ability to show emotion and escape from a trance that has trapped them for so long. The strongest emotion being shown at this moment is love - whether it is between the speaker and his summer love or the invited friends of the party. Everyone is now happy and free.
