Lyrics for Take a Bow as interpreted by spiritmuse

Take a Bow Lyrics
Corrupt, you're corrupt
Bring corruption to all that you touch
Behold, you'll behold
And behold them for all that you've done
And Spell, cast a spell
Cast a spell on the country you run
And risk, you will risk
You will risk all the lives and their souls
And burn, you will burn
You will burn in hell
Yeah you'll burn in hell
You'll burn in hell
Yeah you'll burn in hell
For your sins

Now freedoms concealing itself
What we've become
Is contrary to what we want
Take a bow

Death, you bring death
And destruction to all that you touch
Pay, you must pay
You must pay for your crimes against the earth
Hate, feed the hate
Feed the hate of the country you love
And beg, you will beg
You will beg for the lives and their souls
And burn, you will burn
You will burn in hell
Yeah you'll burn in hell
You'll burn in hell
Yeah you'll burn in hell
Burn in hell
Yeah you'll burn in hell
For your sins

Huzzah, first comment! I do enjoy this song. Seems to be about corrupt rulers etc. Great to hear some fresh muse stuff.

I wonder if this song is about our real political leaders? Bellamy seems pretty obsessed with the notion of revolution and failure of leadership on this CD...

Interesting that it starts off with that little repeating digital noise, similar in a way to the way Origin of Symmetry begins. A review I read said that this song is the link to Absolution - I sort of agree, track 2 starts moving in a totally different direction with a dancier, more electronic feel. But then the whole album swings back towards awesome space-cowboy-opera rock.

I really think that it's more like Absolution peppered with a a certain political feel. The new CD is excellent. And this is a fantastic opener.

I don't think this song is about Osama. Seems more like it's about a politician. The lyrics "Now freedoms concealing itself
What we've become
Is contrary to what we want
Take a bow" Seem to refer to how government appears to be forsaking the very freedoms they are fighting for.

In my opinion I think they're having a go at the politicians of America who were involved in the bombings of 9/11. Some really strong links to "Corrupt, you're corrupt" and then blaming another for the crime, they "Feed the hate of the country you love" Only makes sense they'll "Burn in hell" check this link out for 9/11 Loose Change, then you'll understand.

Some minor issues with these lyrics, here are the correct ones:

Corrupt
You corrupt
Bring corruption to all that you touch

Hold
You'll behold
And beholden for all that you've done

And spell
Cast a spell
Cast a spell on the country you run

And risk
You will risk
You will risk all their lives and their souls

And burn
You will burn
You will burn in hell
yeah You'll burn in hell
You'll burn in hell
Yeah you'll burn in hell for your sins

An our freedom's consuming itself
What we become is contrary to what we want
Take a bow

Death
You bring death
And destruction to all that you touch

Pay
You must pay
You must pay for your crimes against the earth

Hex
Feed the hex
Feed the hex on the country you love

Yeah and beg
You will beg
You will beg for their lives and their souls

Yeah and burn
You will burn
You will burn in hell
yeah You'll burn in hell
You'll burn in hell
yeah You'll burn in hell
You'll burn in hell
Yeah you will burn for all your sins

This is like the overture to the entire album. Makes a great link to Soldier's Poem- "you will risk all their lives and their souls", "you bring death and destruction to all that you touch". These sentiments can be true of any invasion on a large scale. War is bad for soldiers, bad for those at home, and those being invaded- that seems to be the message of this piece. The leaders will "burn in hell" because they justified their war by "casting a spell"- lying. The sort of magic, unnatural diction is continued in the lyrics "crimes against the earth" and "feed the hex".

"An our freedom's consuming itself
What we become is contrary to what we want"

Very important lyrics. Deals with the theme that rights must be given up to preserve freedom- almost a total contradiction.

That's bollocks mate, what the hell does "Feed the hex on the country you love" mean. It's "hate" but pronounced quite strangely, I admit.

pretty obviously about (our) government. osama doesn't run a country to cast spells on, he doesn't risk lives, and the chorus refers to a common desire (freedom), which doen't make sense for osama. it's not about osama. it's about the government (not osama).

This is a good song but not one of my favorite ones on this album. I think this is just more towards corruption of government in general, not so much USA.

it's definitely something to do with Bush and Blair. It's basically depciting the fact that Bush and Blair have sent many soliders in iraq to their deaths i.e."And risk, you will risk
You will risk all the lives and their souls"

The song is also saying that because of all the hatred and death you have brought upon their respective countries, Bellamy hopes that they pay the price for their actions "Burn in hell". The line "Take a bow" is sarcastic and ironic, as these leaders believe people should be applauding and loving them for removing dictators, and yet all their citizens want is for them to end the horror in Iraq and step down as President and Prime Minister respectively

"An our freedom's consuming itself"

I think this refers to the budding 'big brother' society that the UK has become since the London bombings...

Or in other words, to get more freedom from terrorism, the government is takes freedom away to combat terrorism.

This is the greatest anti-Bush song ever. Burn in hell, Bush. I wonder what the secret service would think if they heard this song?

The line "take a bow" seems like it's telling the "you" person to hurry up and finish the performance, so to speak, i.e. leave Iraq. x) Dunno if there'll be any applause if they do bow out, though; the song also gives the feeling that the "you" person has already damned themselves beyond redemption.

Take a bow is a great song. But, if the lyrics are meant to be a dig at Bush/Blair, come out and say it directly. It's like he wants to make a statement but doesn't have the balls to come out and say it. (Ever heard of Dixie Chicks?)

As for the entire album, I am a big fan of Muse and I am let down a bit. I think Muse has gone too flaky and lost their touch. Oh well, it was a good run. Perhaps the boys should spend more time writing songs and less time burning flags.

the song it's against corruption , if they say it directly then , they end up being punk and nobody wants muse to become another green day.

i'm standing with the those guys who think this is about Bush and Blair. This song seems to touch on aspects of their careers. "cast a spell" and "feed the hate" relates to them pumping fear and hatred of terrorism and linking it to the middle east. freedom consuming itself has to be related to the patriot act. the lives and souls relates to the soldiers sent to war, and the crimes against the earth could be not only be the shitty diplomacy but also Bush's conservative views towards the environment and pulling the US out of the kyoto treaty.

This is _so_ totaly about bush!

This is all you ever wanted to throw at him.

I LOVE this song.

And they don't name him directly because then the song would loose its touch. Like the difference between a movie where two lovers come hand in hand out of a room, she slingering slightly and a hardcore porn. I's something about style!

Thanks chat-noir for actually putting the correct lyrics up.

This song isn't about Bush, it's about all leaders, as most everyone has said. Muse isn't an American band, and although the United States' issues have relativity and importance everywhere in the world (just as every country has effect on any other), I think it's impolitic to say that it's about Bush. This can apply to a vast majority of leaders, into which category Bush may fit, but it isn't solely about him. Muse is too good to pigeon-hole something to that specific. Besides, I wouldn't say Bush is corrupt. Sure he is constantly making questionable, if not reckless choices, but he isn't corrupt.

The song on the other hand, is brilliant.

Muse are a British band, and I think this was inspired by Blair (no, that's not a compliment to him). "contrary to what we want": how many people walked the streets of London to protest against the war on Iraq? How many people want Blair to remove himself from Bush's ****, engage his own brain and do what we, the people in the country he "runs", want?
In any case, this is a FANTASTIC track on an INSPIRED album that's growing on me every time I hear it.
