Lost sense, direction Nobody knows my name Confidence, correction Don't know how to play that game Straight line is quicker Straight line would make me fast I've burned my nose enough to know That straight lines never last Swallow your soul And drink from this life As you choke on your pride We all look elsewhere We all look elsewhere It's safer inside doors Nobody has to flee Broken vessel Passed the rocks and out to sea Waiting, wanting Mad with purpose Now we come to talk to one Who knows the answer to how Swallow your soul And drink from this life As you choke on your pride Don't waste your time if you've got it The tides are turning now You are not alone They gave you their worst and you bought it The lie has been exposed You are not alone Winter that comes quick in early September The rain clouds that washed me are what I remember The stones that I threw piled high like a mountain Which I had to climb before I reached the fountain If life is a riddle then riddle me this The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips Don't, don't waste your time Don't, don't waste your time Don't waste your time Don't waste your time if you've got it The tides are turning now You are not alone, liar, liar They gave you their worst and you bought it The lie has been exposed You are not alone

General Comment:I think McDonald is just a genius and his lyrics were written in both the literal sense of drug use, with alternate interpretations relating to his spirituality and how God has helped him overcome his addiction.

General Comment:"blood tasted sweet as it passed my lips"

this has two meanings to me...

first, is obviously drugs... whether snorting pills or coc, the blood that runs down tasted sweet

second, is talking about Jesus and communion... the sins we partake in, in this instance drugs, and now taking the blood of Christ is so sweet, but at the same time while we were sinning the taste of our sins that put him on the cross was sweet for a while, he's saying he knows he's supposed to feel bad, but "riddle me this" why did it feel so good while i was high

General Comment:Omg. Just because its a christian band doesnt mean all they sing about is God. Its so obvious this song is about drugs.

"a straight line is quicker, a straight line would make me fast. ive burned my nose enough to know that straight lines never last" = its the easy way out to take the drugs, but hes taken it enough to know its effects dont last and you basically have to go back to facing reality.
"burned my nose" = sniffing drugs
"blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips" = nose bleeding after sniffing drugs
"we all look elsewhere"= we all find something to rely on to get us out of our tough times, for instance some people use drugs as an escape.
"dont waste your time if youve got it" = im guessing this one is just saying the drugs are not worth it

I could be wrong with those interpretations but the song is definately about drugs, not god. Sorry to the hardcore christians i mightve offended..

General Comment:I think you can find a Jesus message in just about any song you look for it in, and since many people see The Classic Crime as a Christian band, it's constantly (maybe overly?) searched for.

    Anyways, I agree with iknowbob94.
This sounds like a song about drugs.

General Comment:iknowbob94, that's one way of looking at it, and it looks like it kind of makes sense, but I don't think that's right. I think that the straight line is any sin we partake in to obtain instant gratification (be it drugs, porn, pride). But this gratification does last.

Like I said before I think "The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips" is really referring to the shed blood of Jesus, and how eternal joy only comes from salvation.

General Comment:Well this song is clearly about drugs. most of you guys are looking too hard at it.

    A straight line is quicker
A straight line would make me fast
I've burned my nose enough to know
    That straight lines never last

cocaine is quicker, cocaine makes him feel fast, but it burns enough to know the fun never last. this cant be a reference to the Holy path God has set before us because it says "That straight lines never last." Gods path for us is always there.

    Kionabreeze is basicaly right.

"The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips"

i think this part has to do with nose bleeding after cocaine use.

just think about it. the meaning of the lyrics will pop out at you.

General Comment:HowIChoose2Live, I actually think youve got the choking on pride thing backwards. Choking on pride is not something we should do, that's swallowing pride. When TCC refers to choking on pride, they're talking about the whole "pride comes before a fall" thing. Choking on pride means your pride is hurting you somehow; youve taken the fall that your pride set you up for.

As for swallowing your soul, i have no idea what that means...
