Lyrics for You Are The Moon as interpreted by kasandra

You Are The Moon Lyrics
Shadows all around you
As you surface from the dark
Emerging from the gentle grip
Of night's unfolding arms
Darkness, darkness everywhere,
Do you feel all alone?
The subtle grace of gravity,
The heavy weight of stone
You don't see what you possess,
A beauty calm and clear
It floods the sky and blurs the darkness
Like a chandelier
All the light that you possess
Is skewed by lakes and seas
The shattered surface, so imperfect,
Is all that you believe

I will bring a mirror,
So silver, so exact,
So precise and so pristine,
A perfect pane of glass
I will set the mirror up
To face the blackened sky
You will can see your beauty every
Moment that you rise

Obviously its about comparing someone to the moon. How they are beautiful and their presence alone is able to bring light to the darkness. Also, how they do not see just how beautiful they are, and the person wants to be able to show them.

I think the person she's talking about is in a bad point in their life (hence the "Shadows all around you") and she's trying to make them see that they can be better, despite how much they disagree ("The shattered surface, so imperfect/ Is all that you believe").

And the whole Moon simile makes sense as well, seeing as it's surrounded by the darkness of night (the person's bad decision possibly) and shines so bright through it all.

I have always thought that it's about a person trying to stop someone from commiting suicide. Just how it talks about a dark place that the person is in and then trying to tell them how amazing they are and that they can be so much more than they think.

I think it's about someone beautiful yet they think that they are not. And maybe she's trying to make them see who they truly are.

i think she is just talking about the moon.
its pretty simple concept..talking about how the moon is beautiful, but is wonderfully written.

i dnt think shes telling a person how wonderful they are..shes just talking about the moon.

"You Are The Moon is a song about how depression surrounds a person so much that they cannot realize how wonderful they are. "
Greta posted that in their FAQ... so thats what it is

I don't think she is talking about the moon considering the name is "YOU are the moon". The descriptions are more about how someone is so perfect yet that person doesn't ever realize it or admit. It's a perfect situation to my gf ^^

i'm surprised no one has mentioned the reference to sylvia plath.
"i will bring a mirror, so silver, so exact" refers to the poem "mirror." greta is a known sylvia plath fan.

this song is so beautiful. i love the imagery. it's really a poem as well as a song. i think it's about someone who is depressed and hates themselves, but se is saying they are perfect and they don't believe her. i think a lot of people can relate to this song. i envy her talent for writing songs. is is incredible.

Maybe the song is just describing the moon..? :)
Great, nonetheless- but has anyone noticed the repetitive use of chandeliers in the songs? Maybe it's just me.

It's definetly about some one with depression can never see how beautiful they really are, like katpoo131 said. Greta said on the FAQ, go look.

this song is about the girl...he life is like the night, its dark, and then this guy is like the moon, he alone brings light to her darkness but dosnt see it, so shes like i want to show you, i'll make you a mirror thats so perfect you'll see what you mean to me and how your the only thing that keeps my life from being pure darkness. shes just using the moon as a metaphor. i love this song sooo much and even if thats not the real meaning..its how i like to see it. the piano puts me in a haze..its so haunting...

the metaphor is beautiful. she sees the man she loves as perfect, he sees himself as anything but, and she says she will make him see what he is really like.

i love this song.

For sheet music, go to http://www.freewebs.com/pianobea/thehushsound.htm and click on You Are The Moon.

This song is a metaphor, describing someone deep in depression to the moon. They are rising from the shadows, and the only way they see themselves is in the imperfect broken reflection given by a body of water, not a perfect mirror. The only lines I don't understand are The subtle grace of gravity,
The heavy weight of stone
Can anybody explain that?

I believe that this song is about a person who doesn't see their beauty, and I think that the singer is trying to get that person to understand just how beautiful he/she is.

I think that she's trying to tell this person that he/she isn't completely alone in this feeling, that everyone experiences it once in their lifetime. That the "darkness" and "shadows" are the people surrounding you that are putting you down or the people surrounding you who you compare yourself with, you coming out on the losing end.

My favorite verses are "All the light that you possess, is skewed by lakes and seas"
To me that's like saying
All the beauty that you hold is "skewed" by lakes and seas of ignorance.

I loved this song even before I met him, but this song now means more to me because it reminds me of My Guy. He's just got it implanted in his mind that nobody thinks any good of him and that he's totally worthless, but really, he's incredibly incredible...

i think that the song can mean whatever you choose it to mean.
It makes sense that figurative language is being used to describe the moon.
It also makes sense that it is describing how beautiful someone is who doesn't realise it.
Then again, maybe it's both.

I love this song. It reminds me so much of my friend. He feels unloved and thinks everything is his fault.

This song is so sad and sweet. It has made me cry.

"Darkness, darkness everywhere,
Do you feel all alone?
The subtle grace of gravity,
The heavy weight of stone."

absolutely beautiful
