Lyrics for Wine Red as interpreted by kasandra

Wine Red Lyrics
Who shot that arrow in your throat?
Who missed the crimson apple?
It hung heavy on the tree above your head

This chaos, this calamity
This garden once was perfect
Give your immortality to me
I'll set you up against the stars

Gloria, we lied, we can't go on
This is the time and this is the place to be alive

Who shot that arrow in your throat?
Who missed the crimson apple?
And there is discord in the garden tonight

The sea is wine red
This is the death of beauty
The doves have died, the lovers have lied

I cut the arrow from your neck
Stretched you beneath the tree
Among the roots and Baby's Breath
I covered us with silver leaves

Gloria, we lied, we can't go on
This is the time and this is the place to be alive

The sea is wine red
This is the death of beauty
The doves have died, the lovers have lied (x2)

The sea is wine red
(Gloria, we lied)
This is the death of beauty
(This is the time and place)
The doves have died
(Gloria, we lied)
The lovers have lied
(This is the time and place)

a spectacual song.amazing voice. capturing lyrics.
.:lFANTABULOUSl:.

i wonder *face of hard concentration* with the subtle biblical references running throughout the song, could it have something to do with the world and ultimatly the effect we humans are having on it (this chaos this clamity, this garden once was perfect) or maybe an ending relationship which was they whole world metaphorically (this is the death of beauty/the lovers have lied)

Doesn't it also remind you of that legend of WIlliam Tell, though, I mean I deifnitely see the Biblical references to Adam and Eve, but why the arrow?

I definitely think it is religious. The references to Adam and Eve. The apple. The lovers have lied. The part that really convinced me though, was the "Give your immortality to me." Because after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge, He took their immortality.

I think this song is about the something too beautiful to exist being distroyed. I think the biblical and mythological references are used to convey a large scale idea of the distruction of true beauty.

I think "Magnolias" leads into this song with the whole arrow thing, and then the confrontation "who shot that arrow in your throat"

I think the arrow is to do with being tounge tied, or lies. I'm far from hundred percent sure, but didn't Adam lie to God about the apple, or lied to Eve that it'd be okay or something along those lines at some point? I'd say it's to do with that.

I sure their takling about Adam and Eve i got that part.Arrow in the throat might be reffering to the Adam's apple male's have in their throat. Or like ''Seewa'' said lies or tongue tied.. This garden once was perfect reffers to how the world used to be and how it is now.The sea is wine red. That part confuses me. I think it reffers to when moses made the sea with blood. Its sopose to give out a message but tha part just ruined my interpertation =\ some one help here lol

I really dont think it has ANYTHING to do with the bible..Just cause The Hush Sound usually has deeper meanings to their songs.

I just heard this song on a friend's myspace-it was so awesome when I heard it.

Great Beat. Awesome Lyrics. Just my perfect song =D

I like how they refer to apples, the garden, etc. It reminds me of the story of 'Adam and Eve' hehe =3

HEY! What's not deep about the Bible? and every line points to the bible btw. but i have to admit that some lines do remind me of that story about william tell. to whoever asked about who gloria was: gloria isn't just a name. it's also used as a saying to praise god sometimes.

ok (deep breath) i thought deeply about this song for the past couple of days because it was eating away at my soul...so here it is:

I think this song is the tale of the first sin by Adam and Eve and the consequences thereafter. The whole arrow thing has to do with Adam lying to the lord and in a way it sorta tosses the blame on Eve who told Adam to partake of it.

the apple obviously is the forbidden fruit but their are also many other allusions to apples in the first couple of verse: adam's apple (in your throat), apple of william tell, and apple of discord.

the doves signify peace and innocence so it makes sense to say that they died since after Adam and Eve were thrown out of the garden there was never the same peace that existed then. and of course adam and eve lied

most of the rest of the song reminds me of this narritave i read where the author was imagining what the first night away from the garden must have been like for them. that as they looked out upon the sea (the seas wine red) and saw the sun setting and the earth growing cold and they felt themselves growing weary they must have thought they were falling asleep for the last time because they had been promised death because of their sin(plus they didn't really need to sleep when they were immortal) (this is the death of beauty)

so that explains the whole song i thik including the bit about them lying down beneath the tree and being covered with silver leaves

Just because it has biblical references doesn't make it a church song. There's meaning, and the meaning isn't "HEY IT'S ABOUT THE BIBLE"

Look deeper.

yeah, on sweettangerine.net Greta says,
"The song "Wine Red" is about the destruction of something that seems to beautiful to exist, much like the Garden of Eden is said to be. There was a story at that time of a viscious murder or a young girl whom we had all met and that is what inspired the line "the death of beauty". Also, when I wrote the song, I had been reading greek mythology as well as studying creation stories of many different faiths, mainly studying the Genesis stories of the Christian faith (out of curiosity rather than religion). Allusions to those stories are woven into the song."
