Lyrics for Étienne d'Août as interpreted by malajube

Étienne d'Août Lyrics
Parce qu'on aime
fondre en larmes sous les draps
on s'aime comme ci, comme ça
Pour une dernière fois

Mais s'il te plaît
ferme la porte derrière toi
et quand tu reviendras,
je serai près de toi

Si tu m'aimes
serre-moi fort dans tes bras
est-ce qu'on ne s'embrasse pas
pour une dernière fois?

Mais s'il te plaît,
feme la porte derrière toi
et quand tu reviendras
je serai près de toi

Well, my french aint too great, but after tossing this one about with a frenchie friend of mine..

Well, the girl is leaving and her man (or ex-man) is saying despite her leaving, he wants her to come back and when she does, he will be waiting for her. But from the sound of it, the chances of her returning are slim to none.

Uhm. some images in the song are very pretty, tears melting on the sheets, being held tight in eachothers arms, not a bad song at all.

As I did for Montréal -40, I will translate the lyrics, as this is a beautiful song that I wish more people would hear.

---------------

Because we love
to melt into tears under the sheets
we make love to each other, halfheartedly,
for one last time

But, please,
close the door behind you
and when you come back,
I'll be close to you

If you love me
hold me close in your arms
couldn't we kiss
one last time?

But please,
close the door behind you,
and when you come back
I'll be close to you

(Tell me what you're thinking...)

-------------------

So there you have it, enjoy!

i don't understand a word of what they're saying, but the musicianship is top-notch; great crescendos and that drum beat holds it all together.

I love the translation. But I love the song before I knew what a word of it meant....I just knew "août"means summer. I think.

Anyways. This is such a lovely song. I can't get enough of it.

The title, Etienne d'Aout means Stephen of August, I have no idea what that may signify. The video for the song is really poignant too, of a viking burial.

The song is about death of a loved one.

Here's the videoclip :

However I got no idea what "Étienne d'août" actually means... my guess is a friend of the band died in august and may be called Étienne... or it can be anything.

I think that I have once heard the band members telling in an interview that this song was about death, as all Trompe l'oeil's songs are related to a sickness (St-Fortunat = bipolar disorder, Montréal -40〫C = cold, Le Crabe = Cancer).
Août is the french word for August, but D'Août may also be a last name. Étienne D'Août is the complete name of a character, but I don't know wich one. Can't say why they chose this name.
