There was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall
All the young people looked the same
Wearing their masks of cool and indifference
Commerce dressed up as rebellion

'Cause we're so handsome and we're so bored
So entertain us, tell me a joke
Make it long, make it last
Make it cruel, just make me laugh
We can't be hurt, we can't be hurt

Drink to forget your blues on the weekend
Think about more things to buy
The TV taught me how to sulk and love nothing
And how to grow my hair long

'Cause we're so handsome and we're so bored
So entertain us, tell me a joke
Make it long, make it last
Make it cruel, just make me laugh
We can't be hurt, we can't be hurt
We can't be hurt

So why do you go picking fights that you'll lose?
(When you have entertained them. When you have things to pass the time)
So why do you go thinking thoughts that are above you?
(You can be happy just playing dumb. You can be happy just playing dumb)

Well I was brave (and unique), intelligent (a snowflake)
I could have been a hero
No-one can be trusted under the age of fourteen
Tattoo our arms (Converse shoes), cynical ?
We tell ourselves we're different
I've gotten so good at lying to myself

(Oh!)
All my pain and honour is used up
(Oh! Oh! Oh!)
All my guns are rusted

So when you gonna realise
Those are not your wrongs to right?
Have another line, have another drink

I am a martyr, I just need a motive
I am a martyr, I just need a cause
I'm a believer, I just need a moment
I'm a believer, I just need a cause

We're finding it hard to break the mold
We're finding it hard to be alone
We're finding it hard to ourselves
We have nothing at all to say

Uniform

There was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall
All the young people looked the same

General Comment:I really have no idea how can some1 come up to the war in iraq while listening this, the whole title of the song is uniform - united form, the clothes all of the people (in specific place), in this song it describes the similarity of everyone, like they are wearing same clothes. So,yes, basically this song is about individuality loss
We're finding it hard to break the mould
We're finding it hard to be alone
We're finding it hard to untie ourselves
We have nothing at all to say
these lines completely say everything, hard to be alone,so ppl are becoming different to be like others, it's hard to "untie" the real you and because of that,we have nothing new to say, no individuality

General Comment:I think it's about Kele's dislike for indie kids who try hard to be unique and anti-establishment when they're buying into a style like everyone else.

General Comment:These are the proper lyrics, taken directly from the lyrics book that comes with the album, with some changes to show when a line/verse is sung more than once (I'm OCD like that)

Awesome song. It describes how people these days are so infatuated with being cool that they forget to be themselves, and end up being like almost everyone else (hence the title "Uniform", which means the same) and how disappointing it is, and how it puts pressure on the few "unique" people left.

My Opinion:I absolutly love this song! The first time I heard it I was blown away and that still hasn't changed. The message is greatly needed in todays modern world and I can't wait for the day I get to hear this live!

The greatest part is right after the climax and it reverts to the opening lyrics again "There was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall. All the young people looked the same"

General Comment:This song seems to be about the youth being brainwashed by the media and most positions of power in our world. It transcends multiple perspectives throughout the song, the climax being when the youth is so controlled that they believe their own life is worth destroying to fulfill whatever task they have been brainwashed into. (I am a martyr I just need a motive...)

Overall one of my favorite songs, I love how dynamic the shifts in feel are. Also, their live performance of this song was absolutely mind blowing, it wasn't my favorite until I saw the emotion Kele and the band give off live. I saw them in Seattle and the wooden floor was literally bending with the beat from the entire audience jumping and dancing, which if you joined in created a feeling like your were being launched into the air by the beat... awesome.

General Comment:I think this is my number 1 song from bloc party out of all ther songs and albums, I love the way it goes from slow to fast past and this song is 250% better live, the way he sings the "so whyed you go thinking thoughts that will bother you," that part is so amazing. They got some pretty damn good songs but I would hav to say I agree with this song the most and it's just amazing, and they got some good songs like better then heavin or your visits getting shorter or like eating glass but this tops them all for me

My Interpretation:it's about how non-cornfoming is becoming conforming for youth and how that's shit
