Lying in my bed, I hear the clock tick, and think of you
Caught up in circles confusion is nothing new
You say go slow; I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
[Chorus:]
If you're lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you; I'll be waiting
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Sometimes you picture me; I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me; I can't hear just what you've said
You say go slow; I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
[Chorus]
After my picture fades and darkness has turned to gray
Watching through windows, you're wondering if I'm okay
But you say go slow; I fall behind
The drum beats out of time
[Chorus]
If you're lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you; I'll be waiting
(I'll always be waiting)
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Caught up in circles confusion is nothing new
You say go slow; I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
[Chorus:]
If you're lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you; I'll be waiting
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Sometimes you picture me; I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me; I can't hear just what you've said
You say go slow; I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
[Chorus]
After my picture fades and darkness has turned to gray
Watching through windows, you're wondering if I'm okay
But you say go slow; I fall behind
The drum beats out of time
[Chorus]
If you're lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you; I'll be waiting
(I'll always be waiting)
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time

I think it means a different thing for each of us depending on our life experiences.
In our relationship, I'm the ambitious one, always working to a goal, "going too fast". My boyfriend is much more the type who enjoys life slowly. Sometimes he pictures I'm walking too far ahead of him, and can't hear what he says. He tells me to go slow, and I do fall behind momentarily. But the second hand keeps unwinding.
And I know if I get lost, he's there to find me and to catch me if I should fall.
So to me, its all about a relationship where even if one person is moving too fast, they are always ther for each other.
-- Now as a dad, this song has a whole new meaning for me, at least the chorus. As father, you think about how the best to take care of your kids from the moment you wake up till you go to sleep at night.
"Sometimes you picture me I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me I can't hear just what you've said" :)
-- When they start walking and your they cant quite keep up, and when they get a little older and call out "daddy wait, or pick me up daddy"
And of course the chorus:
"If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you; I'll be waiting
Time after time"
From the moment they start walking, getting their license, highschool, graduate college, etc.. as father I'm there to catch them if they fall.
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you; I'll be waiting
Time after time."
The chorus says it all. Being there for someone no matter what.
I agree with RB3N01T on the meaning.
i dated a guy who had some drug issues, and it took it's toll on the relationship. when i think of the verses, it reminds me how i had to make the decision to stop the romantic relationship, b/c i needed to move on in my life.
“Sometimes you picture me I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me I can't hear just what you've said”
I still continued the friendship and I still care very deeply for him, though sometimes he makes it very hard to stay just friends b/c he wanted to move so fast in the beginning of our relationship and I didn’t.
When I think of the chorus, it explains how we are right now. He hurt me in the past, but I still care for him, and I’ll always be there for him, whether finally getting sober, or needing a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to talk to.
“If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
(I'll always be waiting)”
Whether it be him calling at 2AM just to hear my voice, or running my hands through his hair like his mother (who died of cancer) used to…he knows I’ll catch him. I want to save him, but he needs to want to save himself.
Anyway, I think it's about a couple who just got into a relationship with one another, but she feels that they're going to fast and wanting to slow it down a little. On the other hand, he says that don't worry, I will always be there by your side, no matter how fast or slow it goes.
Great song, Great song...
