Warm yourself by the fire, son
And the morning will come soon
I'll tell you stories of a better time
In a place that we once knew

Before we packed our bags
And left all this behind us in the dust
We had a place that we could call home
And a life no one could touch

[Chorus]
Don't hold me up now
I can stand my own ground
I don't need your help now
You will let me down, down, down!
Don't hold me up now
I can stand my own ground
I don't need your help now
You will let me down, down, down!

We are the angry and the desperate
The hungry, and the cold
Weare the ones who kept quiet
And always did what we were told

But we've been sweating while you slept so calm
In the safety of your home
We've been pulling out the nails that hold up
Everything you've known

[Chorus]

So open your eyes, child
Let's be on our way
Broken windows and ashes
Are guiding the way

Keep quiet no longer
We'll sing through the day
Of the lives that we've lost
And the lives we've reclaimed

[Chorus]

Don't hold me up
(I don't need your help, I'll stand my ground)
Don't hold me up
(I don't need your help)
No! No! No!
Don't hold me up!
(I don't need your help, I'll stand my ground)
Don't hold me up!
(I don't need your help, I'll stand my ground)
Don't let me down, down, down, down, down!

General Comment:This is kind of like the proletariat singing to their bourgeois oppressors. I love it!

General Comment:it's not about israel or any one group its about humanity in general and how the systems we live by are actually tearing our lives and relationships apart and about old and more simple times when the world wasn't solely concerned about taking everything and everyone for granted in order to get ahead as individuals but how we need to wake up to those people in power who perpetuate these terrible systems under the guise of freedom and democracy and prosperity.

Song Meaning:This song is in direct relation to the WalMart incident. It was discovered that WalMart was buying items from foreign countries and stamping Made In American on them. These items were made using child labor. Naturally people were pissed and so Rise Against wrote this song. The video clearly depicts a WalMart-esque store and it also clearly depicts child labor.

General Comment:The video clearly shows how marketing leads to child labour in many poor countries

General Comment:I think this song is very anti-globalization

I don't think it has anything to do with Jews or Israel, rather than the fall of the white middle-class America and the rise of globalization and multiculturalism.

    "Before we packed our bags
And left all this behind us in the dust,
We had a place that we could call home,
And a life no one could touch."

We opened up our borders and got rid of our manufacturing base. We left what we had behind the dust.

"We are the angry and the desperate,
    The hungry, and the cold,
We are the ones who kept quiet,
And always did what we were told."

Many people are victims of fair / free trade and multiculturalism. They are the ones who kept quiet and went along with what was happening. They are the ones that are poor now.

Poor white Americans are now the refugees, they are the new Jews with no place to call their home.

General Comment:I think this song is as it says about refugees of war. They’ve been kicked out of their homes, and as they escape, "Broken windows and ashes
    Are guiding the way.”

And as I said before, they were kicked out of their homes, and they miss having a stable life
    Before we packed our bags
And left all this behind us in the dust,
We had a place that we could call home,
And a life no one could touch.

Yea, this song is really sad and its really hard to imagine being kicked out of your home in those circumstances and having to get used to a new place where you don’t know anyone, or maybe don’t even know the language. You’d probably have no work there and no money.

We are the angry and the desperate,
    The hungry, and the cold,
We are the ones who kept quiet,
And always did what we were told.

Another great song by Rise Against

Lyric Correction:As the lyrics are showing up now, in the places where (')s and (")s [quotes/apostrophes] are supposed to be, there are boxes. I changed them back, but make sure that they show up on the page right.
    Detailed Changes:
    -line #19 - deleted comma
    -line #22 - deleted comma
[Only count lines with lyrics on them, not blank lines]

Warm yourself by the fire, son,
And the morning will come soon.
I'll tell you stories of a better time,
In a place that we once knew.

    Before we packed our bags
And left all this behind us in the dust,
We had a place that we could call home,
And a life no one could touch.

    Don't hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don't need your help now,
You won't let me down, down, down!

    Don't hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don't need your help now,
You won't let me down, down, down!

    Down!

We are the angry and the desperate,
    The hungry, and the cold,
We are the ones who kept quiet,
And always did what we were told.

But we've been sweating while you slept so calm
In the safety of your home.

    Don't hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don't need your help now,
You won't let me down, down, down!

    So open your eyes child,
    Let's be on our way.
    Broken windows and ashes
    Are guiding the way.

    Keep quiet no longer,
    We'll sing through the day,
Of the lives that we've lost,

I don't need your help now,
You won't let me down, down, down!

    Don't hold me up
(I don't need your help, I'll stand my ground)
    Don't hold me up
    (I don't need your help)
    No! No! No!
    Don't hold me up!
(I don't need your help, I'll stand my ground)
