You bit me, bit me, bit me, ow
You bit me, bit me, now I want more

Standing in the hall
Kicking out the wall
Its all been sent to recover hell
The bangers and the mash
The negatives for cash
You're either in the club, baby, or you're not

Whatever turns you on
Whatever gets you off
Chief of police or vice-chancellor
Lord and lady, blah blah
The vicar or the judge
You are dancing to my little red book

Because you bit me, bit me, bit me, ow
I got the poison, poison, and I want more

If you are on top
Then it is a long drop
The pyramid is power
We're changing the hour
If you are on the top
Then it is a long drop
If you stare into the dark
The black will stare back
Back into your soul

The cheque came through
The cheque came through
The cheque, cheque, cheque

I'm taking you down
I'm taking you down
I'm taking you down
When I go down
I'm taking you down
I'm taking you down
I'm standing in the hall
I'm kicking at the wall

Because you bit me, bit me, bit me, ow
Poison, I got the poison, I got the poison now
I got the poison

General Comment:I think it's right about the politics thing.
The song seems to be referring to the trouble of getting caught by the public doing something... well that you're pretty much not supposed to be doing.
Maybe not strictly talking about politicians, but maybe about people in general doing things like this and getting caught.
The line "You bit me, now I want more" seems to suggest that they're referring to the fame of it all, and the person's desire for more attention.

    Just my thoughts though.

General Comment:RdeC is right, it's about nightlife relationships for/cause of political power. John Prescott is now referred as Lord Prescott, maybe the meaning behind "Lord and lady, blah blah".

and eatenbytheworms, dancing to my little red book means (pretending) to enjoy his songs (without understanding). As "Red book" refers to CD standard of audio disks.

General Comment:^ Agreed. Some of the posters here must be either REALLY young/innocent or too pretentiously intellectual for their own good - especially the person who claimed Radiohead would NEVER sing about 'crass' subjects such as sex or blackmail because they always sing about deep and meaningful things like politics.

True, they often DO sing about politics, but in this case they've managed to combine ALL the above subjects into one fantastically rocking song ;) And in true inimitable Radiohead style, it contains some of the most darkly humorous lyrical double entendres of their whole repetoire!

Ex: The title is British slang for a meal of SAUSAGE and mashed potato, as the above poster said, and "banging" also refers to having sex. But the award-winning play-on-words has to be: "I'm taking you down when I go down" - get the drift? ;)

IMHO, it's patently obvious that this song is about somebody in a postition of power/public eye (probably a politician) who's being blackmailed in the wake of a sexual affair. The song seems to be narrated from the POV of the extortionist - possibly a Madam or prostitute (male or female).

Thom does indeed sing: "the negatives for cash" as it would fit the general theme of being blackmailed.

I also believe he sings "you bit me OFF" (rather than "ow") - as in the expression: "he bit off more than he could chew".

Song Meaning:guys, please take this in note, this is the real meaning of this song... Bangers and mash, is a british meal, featuring mashed potatoes and sausages... in other words, the british often use that to say "penis and semen". Bit me means giving a blow job... so if you're smart enough you can read the other phrases and see what he really means...

General Comment:I figured it was just simply about any kind of temptation, addiction, etc. But knowing Yorke it is probably much more like fedism states.

Song Meaning:Here is the meaning of the lyrics. Please understand there are alot of subtle meanings which bring all the pieces together to form the meaning of this song.

My interpretation is of a high level masonic teaching (other occult teachings as well) in which lucifer is the god of this world.(bible also calls him that although they call him satan not Luci)
Anyway Luci is the one who was bitten and he wants more of us in order to rule the world. Bangers and the mash is a dish popular in England so he is saying England is under the great rule of this red dragon.
Negatives for cash is a term that can be interpreted as negatives of people under film capture which cannot be shown to public or else some scandal will surely arise ( a popular political manipulative tactic documented by rare sources if you care to search it)

either your in the club or you are not- high level masons and other societies allow for power to be given within the club. so what club are we talking about???? listen on to the words.

what ever turns you on or gets you off- Lucifer or the dark governor will give you what you want..

vice chancellor lord or lady blah blah chief of police are quite powerful titles and seems to have great authority in the world.
the lyrics go on to sayyou are all dancing in my little red book. so you become any great figure like a lord but yet..... you still dance to the plans of his book.

if you are on top then it is a long drop....yeah you dont want to fall if your so high...its dangerous!
the pyramid is power.- A big occult statement here.the pyramid can be linked to many occult teacings in which the pyramid holds even the egyptian godhorus and his lonley eye. also look at many government special agencies including the US dollar bill and other huge corporations which have the pyramid as a symbol becuase they believe it is the symbol of allegiance to this power.

it gets even darker as he shows the darkness of thesystem. stare into the darkness and it will stare into your soul.
one last thing i would like to reiterate is tha when he states you bit me it is the satan him self saying that he was bitten by adam and eve. he tempted themwith knowledge and ability to be a god.the same thing that he is talking about in the song.at the end... he is taking you down... the same one who he gives the lord or prince title to... he is taking them DOWN...why? because they bit into the forbiden fruit.

My Interpretation:Indeed I think it's just about "whatever gets you up", things like power, pleasure, pecunia, that once you've tasted it, you just want more, it's like a poison. And that everyone is able to succumb to these 'drugs'.

Also about the title, I think it's what gets Thom Yorke (or some other band member) up! Maybe they all just go crazy about Bangers and Mash!
