I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
I dozed off with you in front of the mirror, with light crimson fingertips
Your hand suddenly shows me my weaknesses, and closes my lips
On that day, we made a promise to each other
Now, neither of us can remember it
I listen to a boring song, and stare out the window
You show me yourself dancing, and I follow your dress with my eyes; what are you aiming for? Tell me
One day, I'll probably be carried off by the wind
Now, neither of us can remember it
Why am I not like the wind, like the mist; why are there no feathers that float up to the sky
Why am I not like the stars, like the moon, enveloped by everything; why are there no feathers that
sink down into the night
Don't forget those days that overflowed with love
I can't remember your face
One day, the wind will erase it
Now, neither of us can remember it
Why am I not like the wind, like the mist; why are there no feathers that float up to the sky
Why am I not like the stars, like the moon, enveloped by everything; why are there no feathers that
sink down into the night
Why am I not like the wind, like the mist; why are there no feathers that float up to the sky
This love and these wounds are nostalgic; now they start to hurt with love, ah

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
So, I may be wrong, but it sounds to me like he killed the one he loved, and now her ghost refuses to leave him alone...? Or maybe he lost the woman he loved alot, she haunts his memories, and it hurts him like hell, so he just wants to disappear.
this song is more an ode to love which one yearns for all his life but can never get... so he mourns in his memories.... that's all one can do... he knows the memories will eventually fade away so will his lover's face... he wants to run away from it all... the pain, the suffering... he is reminded of his lost love every minute, which in turn sucks his life out... all he wishes then is to run away from it all.... hence the imagery... for then, all he could do is be in misery...living in his memories...
A love that was not meant to be.
a very pretty song though... :)
Atsushi Sakurai's Mother Died - This Is One Of His Songs, Coping With Her Loss... He Felt Like He Lost His Angel.... Dress Is Most Likely The Symbol Of His Mourning.... He Wore A Lot Of Black Back Then.... Through His Grief He Found Strength Again & Continued Living As An Artist To Keep His Mother's Spirit Here With Him.... One Of His Concerts He Made This A Tribute To Her... I LOVE THIS SONG.
The song's about the choice he made to let her go. Perhaps he thought that she would wait until he gathered enough courage, and perhaps he finally realized that with each passing day she lost faith in him until she just wanted him to close the door on the past. It's a wonderful song. The wind has erased it and now the little that remains is resentment.
