Lyrics for Hang Me Up to Dry as interpreted by euthanasia27

Hang Me Up to Dry Lyrics
Careless in our summer clothes
Splashing around in the muck and the mire
Careless in our summer clothes
Splashing around in the muck and the mire

Fell asleep with stains
Cake deep in the knees, what a pain

Now hang me up to dry
You wrung me out too, too, too many times
Now hang me up to dry
I'm pearly like the white-whi-whites of your eyes

All mixed up in the wash
Hot water bleeding our colors
All mixed up in the wash
Hot water bleeding our colors

Now hang me up to dry
You wrung me out too, too, too many times
Now hang me up to dry
I'm pearly like the white-whi-whites of your eyes

Now hang me up to dry
You wrung me out too, too, too many times
Now hang me up to dry
I'm pearly like the white-whi-whites of your eyes

Now hang me up to dry
You wrung me out too, too, too many times
Now hang me up to dry
I'm pearly like the white-whi-whites of your eyes

I think this song is pretty basic, its pretty much about a girl who keeps leading a guy on and then shutting him down again, (rung me out) and he just wants it to end (hang me up to dry)... yeah pretty basic

Definitely about a girl leading on a guy. Maybe "I'm pearly like the whites of your eyes" if a reference to the guy's innocence. His relationship with this girl seems to be pretty corrupting, since they are getting dirty in the mud, tarnishing his whiteness. He gets tired of this, and tells her to hang him up to dry, for better or for worse.

My first impression was that the girl was "putting him through the wringer" about something he had done wrong and he had had enough of arguing, and was saying just hang it up ... I may have done something wrong, but let's stop fighting about it.
But I can also see the other meanings listed about someone leading him on.

this song smokes and is getting regular LA airplay - local band, check it out...
everyone is dead on with lyrics...though not sure what this means

all mixed up in the wash
hot water bleeding our colors

in context with the rest of the lyrics

Anyone else think the word "mile" (or "mild" as i've seen these lyrics elsewhere) should be changed to "mire"?

I think this is more about a guy and a girl. Its being washed out. It is being soaked with all these "shadows" if you will, and being in something so deep that you are ripping at the seams or more literal- "all mixed up in the wash hot water bleeding our colors" I just think that they write amazing lyrics being that i write lyrics too and it seems a bit downing or like they aren't getting as much credit for their lyrics skills for it to be just about being a girl using a guy. I guess that is how we all know the lyrics are great they can be influencial and impact everyone all different people in some way.
Peace.

fell asleep with stains- i interpret this line as him letting himself be vulnerable and because of it got hurt..and its such a pain. careless in summer clothes...i think when you fall in love your so happy that you forget to be careful and all you focus on is how great you feel.
pearly like the whites- white reflects innocence, his innocence. a girl messing with his mind.

yeah this song is wicked, his voise is so unique.

also i have a lyric suggestion

splashing around in the muck and the mile=splashing around in the muck and the MIRE

a mire is a muddy swamp

i get the impression that this guy has been made to cry to many times, his eyes have wrung out, the clothing used as a metahor. he just wants to be left alone, hung up to dry or recover.

I agree it's about being led on, and the lyric should definitely be changed to "muck and the mire"

What's intriguing about this song, is that the singer is perfectly aware that he's being led on, it almost makes you wonder if he truly wants to be let alone. This song may be entirely sexual. He's telling the "you" that he's been wrung out-- twisted, warped, robbed of juices over and over and over again. At the same time, it's almost as if the singer doesn't have a say in if he may leave the situation or not.

The line "mud caked deep in the knees" is definitely suggestive, just the idea of mud on knees suggests kneeling (and sexual favors ensuing), and the crevice of a knee joint being pact with mud can be taken as rather explicit sexual imagery. (Think about it.)

The second verse is almost trippy. Again, he's aware of how confusing the situation is ("mixed up in the wash"). The song brings accent to the word hot, and the entire line "hot water bleeding out colors" implies that there is a melding of one into another. Those involved (the two or three or more) are bathed, lost, and literally melting into each other in hot water. Again, a sexual reference.

At the end of the whole situation, he is left white (like eyes), colorless, beaten wrung out.. perhaps post-coitus?

For some reason, though, I want to take the "pearly as the whites of your eyes" to mean I'm just like you now. I have no support for this, just a feeling.

Anyone else feel me?

[oh and scuba, let us have our fun :)]

Absolutely love this song. The lyrics are brilliant, using laundry as a metaphor for getting caught in an addictive relationship.

see, where it says "pearly" it sounds like he's saying "burning".. and burning white is really hot. another context to think of? or maybe im just way out in left field..
