Lyrics for Death of a Martian as interpreted by CApe151

Death of a Martian Lyrics
Bear paws and rascal power
Watching us in your garage
Big girl you ate the neighbor
The nova is over
Wake up and play
Balleradio
Make room for Clara's bare feet
The love of a Martian

Tick tock and waiting for the meteor
This clock is opening another door

Lots of love just keep it comin'
Making something out of nothin'
These are the best that I
I don't know how to say
Losin' what I love today
These are the best that I
Lots of love just keep it comin'
Making something out of nothin'
These are the best that I
I don't know what to say
Look at what I lost today
These are the things that I

Blood flowers in the kitchen
Signing off and winding down
The Martian ends her mission
The nova is over
She caught the ball
By the mission bell
Chase lizards bark at donkeys
The love of a Martian

Let's bow our heads
And let the trumpets blow
Our girl is gone
God bless her little soul

She's got sword in case tho this is not her lord in case the one who can't afford to face her image is restored to grace. Disappeared. No trace. Musky tears. Suitcase. The down turn brave little burncub bearcareless turnip snare rampages pitch color pages....down and out but not in Vegas. Disembarks and disengages. No loft. Sweet pink canary cages plummet pop dewskin fortitude for the sniffing black noses that snort and allude to dangling trinkets that mimic the dirt cough go drink its. It's for you. Blue battered naval town slip kisses delivered by duck muscles and bottlenosed grifters arrive in time to catch the late show. It's a beehive barrel race. A shehive stare and chase wasted feature who tried and failed to reach her. Embossed beneath a box in the closet that's lost. The kind that you find when you mind your own mysteries. Shiv sister to the quickness before it blisters into the newmorning milk blanket. Your ilk is funny to the turnstyle touch bunny who's bouquet set a course for bloom without decay. Get you broom and sweep the echoes of yesternights fallen freckles....away...

Anthony's dog, Buster, who helped him get out of his drug addiction, also died while they were working on this song.

Well, I'm not going to lie, I absolutely love the outro, but am slightly confused by it. At times it appears to almost completely incoherent. It reminds me of something I tried once. I took a book in the library and would simply flip through to random pages and make sentences and rhymes and stuff from the different phrases and sentence parts on the different pages and sort of tell a vague story. I doubt that's what Anthony did here, but it reminds me of that. Any thoughts on the specifics of the outro?

I read an interview in which John was describing that it was about Flea's dog who sadly died, but when John was recording his backing vocals for it, Anthony handed him a note to tell him that Buster had died as well. It's really sad. So I think the song is solely about Flea's dog, but the emotion behind the recording is about Buster as well.

The 'outro' is insanely incoherent, but I think it somehow relates to the incoherency-of-thought you sometimes go through when someone or something (in this case, Flea's dog, Martian) passes. Everything becomes jumbled up and muddled.

Haha, guys, I don't know if you read Scar Tissue or not, but Anthony says in there that sometimes he puts words into songs just to rhyme them. Not saying that's what he did here, but it definitely looks like it, haha.

Okay, so there are no more "Yup, you're right, it's about his dog"'s...

Bottom Line - Flea and Anthony co-wrote this song, originally for Flea's dog, Martian. During the recording, apparently, Anthony's dog, Buster, had dies as well. :( Hope this doesn't make him go back to drugs, if you read his book, you know that Buster was his biggesdt influence in getting (and staying) clean.

What a beautiful ode to a loyal girl.
Some lines really get my dog-owning heart:
"The nova is over
She caught the ball
By the mission bell
Chase lizards bark at donkeys"

As well as the entire sermon at the end, which I'm sure is accounting their personal experiences together.

"bottlenosed grifters"
lol
That's poetry, folks!

Listen people... it does Not matter what You think of this song.... It matters what We think of this song, colletively. In my opinion, that is where meaning of a work of ANY art originates. This song speaks, to me, about the death of a close one: Be that close one a dog, a significant other or someone meaningless... death affects us all. it reminds us of our mortality.

i really love this song.. it definetly stands out the most to me in Stadium Arcadium.. it's so beautiful and full of depth, it really shows not only the love they had for Flea's dog but what she really meant to them as a friend and companion.. and really, whoever thought it was 'dumb' to have the song about the death of a dog has to be a pretty tight ass close minded person

Before I read the other comments, I thought that it was really about the death of an alien. I thought the first few verses were about the humans and their killing of the Martian:
"Bear paws and rascal power
Watching us in your garage
Big girl you ate the neighbor
The nova is over."

...and the second half was from the point of view of the aliens, who lost a loved one:
"The Martian ends her mission...

Let's bow our heads
And let the trumpets blow
Our girl is gone
God bless her little soul."

But yeah. The real way is even cooler. xD

Does anyone see a similarity to Cedric Bixler's (Of The Mars Volta) lyrical stylings in the outro? John became good friends with Omar around '01.... And De Facto (Omar, Cedric, Ikey, and the Late Jeremy Ward's dub band) opened for Frusciante's solo shows. RHCP quickly befriended Volta... Frusciante plays a solo on Cicatriz, and Flea plays bass for the album, and trumpet for their second album. Anyway, RHCP and MV have toured twice together, and I can see a giant influence by MV on that outro. And that's not a band thing. It's good to see such things in my view. Like bees pollenating different flowers, this is a beautiful example of how influence inspires the music world. Excellent song.

R.I.P. Martian.
