Life is my friend
Rake it up to take it in
Wrap me in your cinnamon
Especially in Michigan
...well I could be your friend

White clouds I'm in
A mitten full of fisherman
C'mon Huckleberry Finn
Show me how to make her grin
...well I'm in Michigan

Cry me a future
Where the revelations run amok
Ladies and gentlemen
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck

A rainy Lithuanian
Who's dancing as an Indian
Painted in my tiger skin
(Especially in Michigan)

Double chins and bowling pins
Unholy Presbyterians
Land is full of medicine
I find it when I'm slipping in
...into Michigan

The tainted new librarian
Who fainted when she tucked you in
Let's float away like zeppelins
(On stoic gusts of Northern wind)

Out on the farm we'll be
Swimming with the mother duck
Deep in the mitten where
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck

Life is my friend
Underwater violins
Order now from Ho Chi Min
A porcelain that comes in twins
..........When I'm in Michigan

Throw me in the looney bin
'Cause I can take it on the chin
The cleavage of your pillow skin
(Is moving like a violin)

General Comment:'Order now from Ho Chi Min"
All that comes to me when I hear this is how Agent Orange, a chemical used to defoliate trees during the Vietnam War, was manufactured in Michigan by Dow Chemical, and how planes from Grayling were used to spread it on Vietnam. The Ho Chi Min trail happens also to be in Vietnam. Anyone else have an idea?

General Comment:I think the "Bowling Pins" might refer to the Brunswick factory in Muskegon, Michigan. It was the worlds largest wood kiln (for pins and lanes). Most pins anyone sees in the WORLD come from that factory...

General Comment:Incase anybody is wondering, the solo is the guitarist from The Mars Volta (Omar something or other.), a band The Peppers have featured with many times. Also, did anybody catch the "mother duck" part? AK's mom lives in Michagin.

General Comment:This song hits home for me... I moved from michigan about two and half years ago. It's kinda cool because Anthony's from the same area as me.

General Comment:Anyone who has ever lived in Michigan knows what this song is about...well maybe not if you only lived in Detroit, but anywhere else. Everyone over here is Christian Reformed, and I mean EVERYONE, and you've probably never heard of CRC unless you live in west michigan, b/c it's one of the smallest Christian denominations there is, but everyone here is also like >90% dutch so it's understandable. Anyways, the CRC is really judgemental and they don't really accept any other Christian denominations, and Presbyterians are really well-known around here for being very open-minded, a little too open-minded. For example, you can be a Presbyterian pastor and not believe that Jesus was the son of God (keep in mind this is not ALL Presbyterians, only some)...so yea..it really could've said "unholy (any non-CRC denomination)" and it would've made sense, but presyterian worked w/ the song, so that's what it is. I understood everything, but the "Underwater violins", which this summer I finally discovered as I swam underwater... EVERYONE was saying "do you hear that"?.... and it almost sounded like music each time you went underwater all day :) I could be wrong... or high... whatever

General Comment:the lithuanian dancing like an indian is refernce to the fact that keidis is part lithuanian and indian and also the fact he used to dress up like an indian and dance around when he was a kid. It says it somewhere in his biography im pretty sure. I remeber i heard this song for the first time and got that reference straight away.

General Comment:I think it is sort of meaningful that this song is on the same album as Dani California. "California rest in peace"....possibly saying california's hay day as the place to be is over. Michigan is where it's at. AK would know too, grew up here, comes back all the time. But he also live's in Cali most of the time. I bet he retires in Michigan. I'm biased tho I'm from michigan and haven't ever thought cali was all that attractive of a place to go.

General Comment:Im from Michigan, this song sums it up pretty well i think.

    "A mitten full of fisherman"
Could be obviously Michigan is the shape of a mitten and known for fishing since there are so many lakes.

    "Lions and tigers come running
    Just to steal your luck"
This makes the most sense using lions and tiger as the sport teams, and how much people obsess over them or also how the tigers use to be really good but they've went down a bit.

    "Who's dancing as an Indian"
The only thing i can think of is the indians or how most of the citys are indian names.

    "Double chins and bowling pins"
Double chins just makes sense because Michigans known for fat people and "bowling pins" reminds me of all the bowling places there.

    "Land is full of medicine"
Michigan is known for great hostpitols and such

"Out on the farm we'll be
    Swimming with the mother duck"

They have great outdoors, it reminds me of when i use to go to the lakes, or to my uncles farm.

General Comment:If you've read Scar Tissue, this song, as well as most of the Peppers' songs will make a whole lot more sense to you. Anthony was born in Michigan and it's where he retreated to several times to become clean. The good years of his life were spent here. That's what the song's about.
