Lyrics for Ain't No Cover as interpreted by Airyca

Ain't No Cover Lyrics
it ain't no cover
it ain't no style
I shouldn't bother
he's eight miles high
but I adore him
and I implore him
saying I love none other
but this ain't no style

he sits there smoking
his breath away
he sits there choking
on what they say
but I adore him
and I implore him
saying one of these mornings
I'm going away

the sun is setting
the day is done
good night, my lover
good night, my son
I shouldn't bother
he's eight miles high
but I love none other
til the day that I die...

i think this is a very simple song about a mature crush on a man.....one of those punky tough guys....who talks big about politics and economic....haha thats really specific but thats how i picture it.....and she is expressing her true feelings "it aint no cover"

'8 miles high' means she feels she's not worthy, and that he's out of her league. thats my interpretation. but could be a drug context...i prefer to believe otherwises

i disagree. I reckon that he (being her husband) is on drugs. he's 8 miles high and she reckons that she must leave, despite the fact that she will always love him. She pleads with him to change and threatens to leave and she eventually does, vowing to never love another. What I don't get though, is why she would kiss her son good bye, as well as her husband before she leaves... would she leave her son to that kind of life? Also, in the live version i have she says "good bye my lover, good bye my son" not "good night..". Anyway, thats just the idea I'd always got from the song!

Ohh, and I love the heartbeat and its a great song to sing by yourself! Go Regina!

It is a drug reference actually. "8 miles high" is the title of a song by the Byrds, and is allegedly the first song directly referencing drug use. She is saying he is high on drugs but she doesn't care, she loves him anyway. The title could also be a reference to the use of the lyrics "8 miles high", as in she is not covering that song.

i'm pretty sure it says "but i love mother til the day that i die..."
not "i love none other".

This song sounds like a teenage infatuation to me. She's got eyes for a tough guy who's into drugs. Everyone disapproves of him; her mother warns her that it's just a passing fancy, she's in her bad-boy phase, and she "shouldn't bother," should wait her feelings out; one day she'll realize how silly she'd been and really fall in love with a man Mom would approve of. "I love him till the day that I die" sounds like a very teenager-y thing to say to me; she defiantly responds to all of her mother's criticism with this proclamation.

I think it ends with her running away with the boy. "My lover" and "my son" are what she calls him as she bids him good night when they're finally together, and she thinks wryly that she shouldn't bother, but she's finally free, away from home, free to love him until the day she dies.

Oh, and I didn't finish my comment properly! I meant to say: crumbs, I never thought of that as a heartbeat, but I love that idea! Also, I wonder why Regina always opens her concerts with this song...

This song, as stated, is about a lover, whether it's a husband, a passing fancy, or a one night stand. I subscribe to the thought that he's a man she dated for a while, not her husband.

The first verse is her meeting him. She shouldn't bother talking to him, he's so far above her, 8 miles high. She tries anyway, she says "she'll love no other."

The second verse is her in the relationship with him. He's under the thumb of people and can't get away from what they say about him, "he sits there choking on what they say," and he battles with addiction, smoking his breath away. She says that she'll leave him if he doesn't stop.

The third verse is the breakup. "The sun is setting" on their relationship. She says goodbye, but he doesn't respond, because he's "8 miles high." Here I should point out one difference in what I believe the lyrics are: I believe she says "Goodbye my lover/goodbye my sun." This is important because it gives another angle to the sun setting, saying she will be forever in the dark without him, but she still must say goodbye if only to make him realize his mistakes. She can't love another.

I believe she sings this song at the beginning of her concerts as an ode to him, and the heartbeat stops with the song. I think that this signifies that the addiction won out, and he died. The heartbeat is his, and she keeps him alive and with her by singing this song first in every set.

I totally know how she feels. I am so so so so so in love with this guy who is just way out of my league. He is too good for me, too smart, and way to handsome. That's how I feel, it's like I shouldn't bother. thats what I get from the song.

and yes, its perfect live

I think its about this guy who's cool, but has a bad reputation..so people say bad stuff and it bothers him. and this girl loves him and tries to marry him but for some reason they can't get married and so she's lanning to runaway with him. maybe.

8 miles high is a drug reference, and that's mainly what this song is about. to me, it's about a woman who's in love with a man who has a destructive appetite, and she sees it and it pains her but she can't bare to leave him becuase she loves him so much. the heart beat she adds in might represent his mortality, and her fear that his drug abuse will get the best of him. I can relate.
