it ain't no cover
it ain't no style
I shouldn't bother
he's eight miles high
but I adore him
and I implore him
saying I love none other
but this ain't no style

he sits there smoking
his breath away
he sits there choking
on what they say
but I adore him
and I implore him
saying one of these mornings
I'm going away

the sun is setting
the day is done
good night, my lover
good night, my son
I shouldn't bother
he's eight miles high
but I love none other
til the day that I die...

General Comment:Whenever I hear this song I always think of Lennie in Of Mice and Men, because it says I shouldn't bother he's 8 miles high and Lennie is very tall also it says and I implore him saying one of these mornings I'm going away and George is always saying he wants to leave Lennie but he never does.

Obviously it's about lovers but it always makes me think of Lennie

My Interpretation:8 miles high is a drug reference, and that's mainly what this song is about. to me, it's about a woman who's in love with a man who has a destructive appetite, and she sees it and it pains her but she can't bare to leave him becuase she loves him so much. the heart beat she adds in might represent his mortality, and her fear that his drug abuse will get the best of him. I can relate.

General Comment:I think its about this guy who's cool, but has a bad reputation..so people say bad stuff and it bothers him. and this girl loves him and tries to marry him but for some reason they can't get married and so she's lanning to runaway with him. maybe.

General Comment:I totally know how she feels. I am so so so so so in love with this guy who is just way out of my league. He is too good for me, too smart, and way to handsome. That's how I feel, it's like I shouldn't bother. thats what I get from the song.

    and yes, its perfect live

General Comment:This song, as stated, is about a lover, whether it's a husband, a passing fancy, or a one night stand. I subscribe to the thought that he's a man she dated for a while, not her husband.

The first verse is her meeting him. She shouldn't bother talking to him, he's so far above her, 8 miles high. She tries anyway, she says "she'll love no other."

The second verse is her in the relationship with him. He's under the thumb of people and can't get away from what they say about him, "he sits there choking on what they say," and he battles with addiction, smoking his breath away. She says that she'll leave him if he doesn't stop.

The third verse is the breakup. "The sun is setting" on their relationship. She says goodbye, but he doesn't respond, because he's "8 miles high." Here I should point out one difference in what I believe the lyrics are: I believe she says "Goodbye my lover/goodbye my sun." This is important because it gives another angle to the sun setting, saying she will be forever in the dark without him, but she still must say goodbye if only to make him realize his mistakes. She can't love another.

I believe she sings this song at the beginning of her concerts as an ode to him, and the heartbeat stops with the song. I think that this signifies that the addiction won out, and he died. The heartbeat is his, and she keeps him alive and with her by singing this song first in every set.
