Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream,
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
High above the chimney tops,
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

General Comment:In the verse "Someday I'll wish upon a star/and wake up where the clouds are far behind me" I think the artist is suggesting that one day all his problems will go away and he has nothing to worry about anymore. He is hoping that one day he will truly be happy.

General Comment:my grandmother passed away when i was 8 years old. the morning after her passing, we just happened to be singing this at school during chorus. i broke down...still do. it was the first song i had heard since her death. i think it was God's little way of telling me that she was safe and happy with Him. everytime i hear it i think of it as a little reminder of where she is and hopefully where i will be someday :)

General Comment:This song will always be on top of my all-time favorite songs.

The best time of each day, is when we dream..isn't it...this song just give me hope, though, depresses me sometimes, coz I know some of my dreams will never gonna come true.

General Comment:I ove this song, and Im surprised im the first comment. You she, she's from a small poor farm where life is hard, so she's saying "Isn't there some place I can go, where I can escape from all of this?"

General Comment:This might sound crazy, but this song really makes me think of death and dying.

At least outside of the film, because it's easy enough to interpret as wishful thinking and dreaming by watching the film.

But listening to it, with the lines like "way up high", and "wake up where the clouds are far behind me", make me think of someone passing in their sleep, and rejoicing over the afterlife. No more troubles, no more worries. Happy and free way above the rainbows and clouds. Then again maybe I'm just too pessimistic. >_>
