Lyrics for 21st Century as interpreted by Avatar-rock

21st Century Lyrics
All the Creatures,
On the beaches,
Making waves in a motion picture.
Wont you keep this,
In between us,
Search and seizure, Wake up venus.

The dollar bill will,
Mentally ill Bill,
Mum and dad take your 'Don't be sad' pill.
Turn the screw and,
Twist my language,
Don't forsake me I'm contagious.

There's a reason for the 21st Century,
Not too sure but I know that it's meant to be,
And that it's meant to be.

It's my favourite,
Combination,
Coming down with the favoured nations.
Deep rotation,
Mutilation,
Learn to give and take dictation.

Oh, oh oh, oh oh,
Like a Cain and Abel.
Oh, oh oh, oh oh,
It's time to run this table.

There's a reason for the 21st Century,
Not too sure but I know that it's meant to be,
And that it's meant to be.

Read me your scripture now,
Read me your scripture,
Read me your scripture and i will twist it.

Show me your wrist and I,
Show me your wrist and,
Show me your wrist and I'll kiss it kiss it.

Oh, oh oh, oh oh,
Like a Cain and Abel.
Oh, oh oh, oh oh,
It's time to run this table.

Simple soldier,
Hand it over,
Stop and read what you just wrote her.
Strangulation,
Altercation,
Oral sex and bird migration.

There's a reason for the 21st Century,
Not too sure but I know that it's meant to be,
And that it's meant to be.

There's a reason for the 21st Century,
Not too sure but I know that it's meant to be,
And that it's meant to be.

Well I think this song seems to be about fucked up the times are right now.

Anti-depressants
War, the "favoured nations"
Strangling, fighting, mutilation

I like how they have such and upbeat song about such a sad topic, lol !

this song, ant said, is about when bush was elected again and he though, 'hmmm, an evil empire. maybe this is a good thing' as he thought it was a change that we might need

"his song, ant said, is about when bush was elected again and he though, 'hmmm, an evil empire. maybe this is a good thing' as he thought it was a change that we might need"

Hmm I doubt that. I don't think Anthony Kiedis will ever say that we "need bush." I think he's saying that there's a greater reason for how fucked up everything is..but not that it's a good thing that everything is the way it is. I think he's saying a world has a fate and all of these problems mean something..it's just that we don't know what it all means.

Ok, this song annoyed me at first... the first few bars are the same as the OC theme song.. and AK has an eerie kinda voice, but I cant put my finger on it.
On the other hand I like it... it's thought provoking.

RE: The Cane and Able reference
The message...
"I'm not my brother's keeper"
If we all loved our neighbours this world would not be as ugly as it's (accurately) depicted here.

Sounds like a song critizing the current state we're all in. "don't be sad pills" would be in reference to the medical dependency so many more people are on today in the 21st century than in the past. "dollar bill will" the way people (especially here in the US) are motivated by money is a concept that was always prevelant but even more now than any other time. Good song, glad I was able to comment on it before 200 14 year olds deemed it a love song or song about drugs somehow.

This song is so great, and I belive(just like many others already have said) that it is about all the problems that we have today that we can't solve, but there's still a reson for them to happen.

Its all about how crazy this new century already is, how were fighting wars that don't need to be fought, there is a crazy flu within birds.. But in the end RHCP knows that its all for a reason, within the timescale of mankind.

"deep rotation" sounds like 'deportation' which still makes sense.

No it is deep rotation, Ive got the booklet thingy in front of me.... But then again even it usually has one or 2 mistakes...

I might sound stupid, but.... what is this 'reason' for the 21st century everyones talking about? And what 'good' is gonna come out of war.... Im not sure but I think its about how we are slowly and painfully killing the world, along with all the creatures on it.... even ourselves!

Please correct me if Im wrong.... Just dont do the whole 'WHAT THE HELL! Youre so stupid' thing

I love this song and it is amazing live. I think that the reason for using an upbeat tempo for a sad topic is because although we know that all of this shit is happening around us, we seem to mask it and try to forget about it, pretend that it is not there.

As for the 'Cain and Abel' line, the only thing I can think of is that in the autobiography 'Scar Tissue', AK described him and Flea as like Cain and Abel.

I believe that this song is just describing the changes that the 21st century has brought. Everything from wars (simple soldier, hand it over), sex... It shouldn't be the reason for the 21st century, but its all that there is to come, so he knows its meant to be... there's no stopping it.

If you notice, he keeps repeating phrases about twisting words. "Rotation and mutilation" are themes repeated many times, and the obvious one, "Read me your scripture and I will twist it". This song is about ideologies worldwide (and opinions in our own country) and how everyone has a different perception of everybody else.

Whenever I hear the main chorus "There's a reason..." I always think of people who are stuck in the past. "Why can't things be like the good old days? When you didn't have to lock your doors or pay too much for gas?" Anthony is saying, well... we're here in the 21st century; better to embrace it and deal with it rather than think of the past.

But going back to the themes of "twisting language", I think the chorus is hopeful - this is the 21st century, and we have an opportunity to change as a human species, and try to understand each other rather than twist words and point the finger.

Ohh and also... the "cain and abel" thing... I think that's referring to the idea of a "good brother" and "bad brother", as they were in the bible stories - once again going back to everybody having different perceptions, like "Nation X is evil, and we are good, and we must be heroic and save them" or whatever.
