When he said
"I hope you're sleeping better knowing that I never sleep at all" did you reply
with that smile
I know this can't
be what you had in mind
I guess you'll try it all again next fall
you'll feel better on the day that he dies

so when you're pulling on your trendy clothes
and humming every stupid note to this song
that's on your mixtape that we're singing oh so loud
yeah we're singin' now

When she said
"you gotta make your plans, to start making plans alone" maybe we will and maybe we won't
and you know you're gonna paint the town red
with all of your blood she stole
on the night of the murder when she left you alone

so when she's pulling on her trendy clothes
and humming every stupid note to this song
that's on your mixtape that we're singing oh so loud
yeah we're singin' now

and here's to all the boys you'll kiss
and all the scars left on their lips
and here's to all the boys you'll date
the one's we'll make sure that we hate

and here's to all the boys you'll kiss
and all the scars left on their lips
and here's to all the boys you'll date
the one's we'll make sure that we hate

My Interpretation:This is a pretty simple song, it's about a girl who dumped a guy (not the singer) and the singer is talking to both of them separately in each verse but kind of taking the guys side overall.

    -------------------------
    When he said
"I hope you're sleeping better knowing that I never sleep at all" did you reply
    with that smile?
    -------------------------
This is basically saying what it says, the singer is asking this girl that question.
    -------------------------

    I know this can't
be what you had in mind
I guess you'll try it all again next fall
you'll feel better on the day that he dies
    -------------------------
Now we know that the guy from the question and the girl the singer is talking to were dating and broke up (probably for summer) but he's saying that they'll probably just get back together come fall because they probably do that stuff all the time. Then he says she'll feel better when the guy dies because then she wont have to stress herself out over their relationship and what not.
    -------------------------

so when you're pulling on your trendy clothes
and humming every stupid note to this song
that's on your mixtape that we're singing oh so loud
    yeah we're singin' now
    -------------------------
More of just an transitional lyric in the song, kind of depicting this girl just going about her normal routines after the break up.
    -------------------------

    When she said
"you gotta make your plans, to start making plans alone" maybe we will and maybe we won't
    -------------------------
The quote is what the girl said the guy when she dumped him. Now the singer is talking to the guy in the verse, and is trying to help the guy out to look more like he doesn't care that she dumped him.
    -------------------------

and you know you're gonna paint the town red
with all of your blood she stole
on the night of the murder when she left you alone
    -------------------------
But then he reminds the guy that even if he acts like he doesn't care, or if he actually gets over it, that it doesn't mean he should forgive her. He's reminding him of what she did.
    -------------------------

so when she's pulling on her trendy clothes
and humming every stupid note to this song
that's on your mixtape that we're singing oh so loud
    yeah we're singin' now
    -------------------------
Just goes to reestablish that the second verse was directed towards the guy with the use of "she's" as opposed to "you're"
    -------------------------

and here's to all the boys you'll kiss
and all the scars left on their lips
and here's to all the boys you'll date
the one's we'll make sure that we hate
    -------------------------
Taking the guys side again, but directed at the girl
    -------------------------

General Comment:Normally I'd say something like "Why doesn't this have more comments?!?"

But it's kinda cool how not that many people know about it because it makes the song a little more special ya know?

Besides, the new kids wouldn't know what to do with a song like this

General Comment:when i hear this song i think of a guy whos been messed with by a high school senior ( i know thats weird but he makes reference to next fall). she seems to be one of those girls who is a stretch to get and she dresses nice and is slightly easy so when shes breaking up wtih him shes really mean about it so at the end of the song he starts cursing her

General Comment:this song's lyrics had always confused me, but i think i kind of figured it out.

    "When he said
"I hope you're sleeping better knowing that I never sleep at all" did you reply
    with that smile
    I know this can't
be what you had in mind
I guess you'll try it all again next fall
you'll feel better on the day that he dies"
i think that's about a girl that likes to mess with guys' minds and finds pleasure in it.
here, jamison is talking to the girl.

"so when you're pulling on your trendy clothes
and humming every stupid note to this song
that's on your mixtape that we're singing oh so loud
    yeah we're singin' now"

i always thought that it was the instead of this song, because it sounds like it's a song that the guy wrote for her and she still likes even though the relationship is over. jamison is still talking to the girl.

    "When she said
"you gotta make your plans, to start making plans alone" maybe we will and maybe we won't
and you know you're gonna paint the town red
with all of your blood she stole
on the night of the murder when she left you alone"

here, jamison is talking to the guy. it sounds like the girl either killed him or the guy committed suicide because of the girl.

"so when she's pulling on her trendy clothes
and humming every stupid note to this song
that's on your mixtape that we're singing oh so loud
    yeah we're singin' now"

and here, jamison is still talking to the guy. i think it's 'on your mixtape' this time because it's the mixtape the guy made for the girl.

"and here's to all the boys you'll kiss
and all the scars left on their lips
and here's to all the boys you'll date
the one's we'll make sure that we hate

and here's to all the boys you'll kiss
and all the scars left on their lips
and here's to all the boys you'll date
the one's we'll make sure that we hate"

jamison is talking about the girl here. and i think the reason that it's 'we' instead of 'i' is because he is not only talking about him, but the girl's ex as well.
