Lyrics for Sweet Tangerine as interpreted by Stupendous_Man

Sweet Tangerine Lyrics
Rain falls, quickly wetting my hair and clothes
My cries fall upon her deaf ears
More tears
Let me in, please, it's cold
I'm freezing out here
I miss you, my dear
You're all his and I'm all yours
Like it or not, I'm all you've got

Everyone will make mistakes
Without the sour, the sweet wouldn't taste as...

Sweet tangerine
Will you please come back to me?
Cause I don't think that these feelings are gonna leave

Light cuts through the clouds
And haunts me like bad dreams
Outside, looking in
I'm feeling lost and cold as a sin
A shred of a hope, a little bit of sweetness
Anything please, except for defeat
If I could, I'd lock you up and toss out the key
It's just you and me

Everyone will make mistakes
And I know I have
Without the sour, the sweet wouldn't taste as...

Sweet tangerine
Will you please come back to me?
Cause I don't think these feelings are gonna to leave

Sweet melody
You'll be singing in your sleep
But this time you're not listening to a word I say

Crept through the curtains as quick as the cold winds
Slowly exploring the room where you sleep
The stare of your portrait
The passing of your scent
Left me no choice but to stay

I will dissolve into the dark beneath your bed
My hands will wait for a taste of your skin

Sweet tangerine
Will you please come back to me?
Cause I don't think these feelings are gonna to leave

Sweet melody
You'll be singing in your sleep
But this time you're not listening to a word I say
A word I say

I am in love with this song!! Canlt wait for the record to come out!!

Anyway, the meanings pretty obvious. Narrator is a stalker who is head over heels for someone, and watches them, always desperatly wanting them, but always unsure if he/she should make a move, becasue the last time he/she did, he/she didn't get the reaction he/she wanted.

This song is about losing a girl and wanting her back. They are talking about how lonely and cold he is without his girl. All he seems to want to do is watch her as she sleeps

The eighth and ninth stanza definitely point to the fact that he is a stalker.

theres such a fine line between being termed as a stalker and someone who wants someone so much and loves each and every sight of her he can possibly have. this song's start has such a retro sound to it, the music or something about it is so retro..

I love this song. for some reason I didn't think he was a stalker really.I mean I know that he is now, but I mean when I first heard it, i just thought he was a guy who lost someone, by making some mistake, and who's trying desperatly to get her back.

The second I heard this I thought of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Clementine's nickname in the movie is Tangerine. Anyone else?

It's clearly about a stalker. because no normal person would:
Crept through the curtains
As quick as the cold winds
Slowly exploring the room where you sleep
The stare of your potrait
The passing of your scent
Left me no choice but to stay

I will disown
Into the dark beneath your bed
My hands will wait
For a taste of your skin

This song reminds me of this guy I know, who screws up all of his relationships. He really cares about this one girl, but he messed up OVER and OVER and he's constantly wanting her back. Everytime he admits to his mistakes and says he will change, but he doesn't. And now the girl is fed up with him and won't listen to him anymore. And could the stalking part just be a metaphor? Like to show how desperate this guy has become for this particular girl. Not that he actually did those things.

i agree with IamI. first time i heard this song i thought of eternal sunshine of the spotless...and then had an urge to watch it...anyways, i listened to the lyrics a bit closer and the song reminds me of the movie so much. how much he didnt want to lose those feelings of her towards the end and wants her back, "meet me...in montauk..."

Yeah I would'nt be surprised if this song is refrencing Eternal Sunshine. They movie and the lyrics seem to have alot in common.

This is about the narrator from 'we intertwined' calling out to the narrator of 'a dark congregation' who has left him, so he can only see her in his dreams. He is searching for memories of her in his mind, so he is 'outside looking in' at past experiences with her. Maybe the 'everyone makes mistake' line is his way of forgiving her for leaving him (she feels guilty in 'a dark congregation') and begging for her to come back. Because he is no longer with her in real life, he spends his time dreaming of her and cursing the morning, when he must wake up ('light comes through the clouds and haunts me like bad dreams')

I don't know if it's the fact that I JUST got done watching the movie, but I'm glad to see other people agree that this song reminds them of "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" as well.

I think we can agree that the songs all follow a story, we intertwine is about the same girl/guy whatever

and i don't think hes a stalker, he just loves her so much that its driving him crazy and he has very reckless actions because he wants her back. That explain the whole 'seraching her room and under the bed thing'

Plus it sounds to me as though he was just in her room but then 'the passing of her scent' forced him to hide aka she was coming into the room and he obv didn't wnat to be caught..that would be creeper

Like some have said, I think it's to do moreso with the strong desire for the girl that he used to have than actually stalking her.

It's got a real big sense of voyeurism in this song. Now, voyeurism vs. stalking are two different yet somewhat similar concepts so. It's a sense of 'if i can't have you to myself, then i'll be okay with just watching and dreaming'.

i don't think he actually stalking her. it's more of a metaphor. he's looking into the "house of her heart" feeling depressed (rain) cuz he doesn't have a place there anymore. so now he's trying to find a way back in to her heart and trying to do it sneakily so she won't notice. and i think she's "asleep in her love" (because maybe of whatever he did to her) so she's not really listening to him or paying attention.

i've never seen eternal sunshine of the spotless mind so i don't know about that theory
