She's the song that you tried to sing,
And the note that you couldn't hit.
So you locked her up in a music box,
And turned the key on all of us.

She spins silver strings in the dark,
With metal teeth that ring in her heart.
When the cover drops, the world just fades away from her waiting for her to say it:

[Chorus]
K-I-S-S I'm in distress,
I need someone to spell it out
You know our love's not unconditional.

A book of matches and a cigarette,
A love note that you never sent,
You can fold it up but you won't forget

You can strike a match but it still might not light
Now I'm the one stuck inside this silver cage,
The bird that can't fly away clips it's wings if it sings of the way, the way that it hurt
Waiting for her to say it:

[Chorus]

Low f-I-d-e-l-I-t-y do all love songs turn out this way? can't you hear me when I say:
You're in my heart, in my hands, around my neck.

We move like a carousel,
Streak lights and mirrors fill our eyes.
It's time to let this go,
But we can't stop spinning around

General Comment:First off, I love this song. Best Thursday song since This Side of Brightness. WHY DON'T THEY PLAY THIS AT SHOWS!!??

Secondly, I think this song is simply about how love and relationships suck. Thematically, this song could have EASILY fit on War All The Time, thankfully they went for something different on this song and it sounds fuckin great. I can't wait for the next album.

General Comment:It's about being in a failing relationship. At first he did not want to be without her and thus kept her locked away all to himself. He remembers how it felt to wait for her to love him back. He "struck the match" but it did not light as he wanted it to. Now he's trapped in the relationship because she has become attached, yet he no longer feels the same way. There's nothing more to talk about, and he doesn't completely trust her, thus low fidelity. He wants it to end but somehow can't do it, he "can't stop spinning". I don't know, I'm probably crazy. i think i described my situation instead of the song.Whatever, that's what it means to me.

General Comment:Until very recently I thought the lyrics were "You're in my heart, in my head, round my neck" and I think I like it a lot better that way.

General Comment:The first time he says
"K-I-S-S (I'm in distress) there's nothing left to talk about
You know our love's not unconditional"

He clearly says in the background
"(Because these words mean nothing but)"

General Comment:Its like wanting something you can't have and then taking it by force. he then puts her in a box in his he heart, thats where I am guessing the box is. And in the moment that her song sings, his life has meaning and once it ends, the world just fades.

General Comment:why is the girl in the music box? its because she dances for (loves) anyone who opens the box. he opens the box, she plays him a song, he thinks its his song, but its hers and she plays it for anyone who opens her up. he's sad because he realizes that its true. the real sadness is she cannot find what she's looking for. notice she is the one saying she's in distress. he pities her but she is just looking for help and their connection is different to both of them. sad song for all involved.
