Lyrics for Vicarious as interpreted by DarkAntiCrista

Vicarious Lyrics
Eye on the t.v cuz tragedy thrills me.
Whatever flavor it happens to be.
(like)
Killed by the husband...
drowned by the ocean...
Shot by his own son...
she used a poison in his tea, Then she kissed him goodbye.
That's My kinda story
It's no fun till someone dies.

Don't look at me like I am a monster.
Frown out your one face but with the other you
Stare like a junkie into the t.v.
Stare like a zombie
while the mother holds her child. Watches him die.
Hands to the sky, cryin' "why, oh why?"

Cuz I need to watch things die, from a distance.
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
You all need it too don't lie.

Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause till the blood is flowing.
Neither the brave nor bold nor brightest of stories told,
We won't give pause till the blood is flowing.

i need to watch things die, from a good safe distance.
Vicariously, i live while the whole world dies.
you all feel the same so why can't we just admit it?

Blood like rain come down. Drum on grave and ground.
Part Vampire, Part warrior, Carnivore, and Voyeur
Stare at the transmittal. Sing to the death rattle

Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men.
Pull your head on out your hippy haze and give a listen.
Shouldn't have to say it all again.
The universe is hostile. so Impersonal. devour to survive.
So it is. So it's always been.

We all feed on tragedy. It's like Blood to a vampire.
vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
Much better you than i.

evidence that this leak may be a decoy---- Blair said in the September 2005 newsletter that the band had spent a year making a decoy album to fool bootleggers... HOWEVER he was in the middle of a highly sarcastic rant... secondly, if there's a band out there capable of pulling off a trick like this it's Tool...

Major reasons that this is NOT a decoy album...

the track lists was made public because the album's packaging was being sent off to the printers and was going to be leaked anyway...

I have personally seen photographs of the packaging... it folds out into 3d glasses to make the viewing more interesting...

would Tool really piss away tens of thousands of their own dollars just to fake us out?

-so in conclusion, i don't really think this is a decoy album, but even if it is I think certain people should quite trash talking it as Blair claimed that the band spent so much time putting it together to make people believe it was the real thing... if it IS a decoy, doesn't matter to me cause i have a disk with, what i consider to be, 11 great tool songs... if there's another disk coming on may 2nd, bring it...

it's hard to know what to believe with this band... i did see an interview with Danny and Maynard yesterday on mtv... they really didn't mention anything specific about the new album... i guess we're all gonna have to wait and see..

"at coachella, tool will pull off the biggest hoax in the history of music and announce that the leaked album was a joke and blow thousands of overwhelmed fans away with their new material (on 28th april, same date as the album is first released in some countries, tool kick off their tour)" quoted from TREXOR

cant wait till tomorrow.. but i wont be surprised when things come together/fall apart

It's already out in Australia and there is a lot of pics of the packaging....one of my friend already have one CD and it's exactly the same as the leak....no TOOL won't surprise us...the sides projects of the members have put their creativity a little bit down but 10.000 is still an excellent album...not a masterpiece but an excellent album...

TREXOR, I wonder if you even know what the word 'vicarious' means. It doesn't make sense in the context you are using it in. People don't refer to themselves as 'vicarious,' unless you are making an artisitc point, like Maynard is. Seriously, look the word up. I didn't know what it meant when I first heard it, but I wasn't afraid to look it up. That's what dictionarys are for.

holy shit. obviously i have been researching this stuff. i'd have to be pretty stupid to not have looked into what "vicarious" meant, if i didn't already know. i first got the song on the thursday before the 17th, whatever date that would have been, and i looked up the meaning before i had even finished listening to it the first time. how does it not make sense? i suppose the meaning could be quite broad, but i mostly take it to mean "empathic". feeling other people's feelings, in this case, pain. and rock_hawk, you sound like a hardcore sellout. i can't really think of any word that "shouldn't be said unless you're making an artistic point". and you were the one who said the thing about "catchy tunes", etc., weren't you... ? the opposite of vicarious, would be "numb". i feel like a preschool teacher for having to explain these basics so much...

TREXOR- honestly dude, just walk away while you can, stop digging your hole deeper... you sound like a 16 year old, TOPS...

you didn't really say-
' the opposite of vicarious, would be "numb"'
did you? let's break this down real quick...

Websters defines Vicarious as-
-Felt or undergone as if one were taking part in the experience or feelings of another-

so basically, one would have to be numb to a certain extent to require Vicarious stimuli... i.e. emotion... and that's what the song is about. it's kind of a similar subject to Stinkfist... overstimulation causing numbness and whatnot...

WIKIPEDIA-

Skepticism that 10,000 Days is the actual title has become void since the album has already been released in some European countries.

If there's one song on the leaked 10,000 Days that's real, it's this. This is a great song. Roll on UK release day!

ive been sitting back most of the day and this really isnt the place for this, but i have to say, TREXOR... what were you thinking?

posting this fake fakeout on a site where you cant delete comments, not to mention the loose information and conspiracy theories you were basing all your ideas on.

trying desperately to get people to believe you and now not even addressing the fact that youre WRONG you skip over comments and pick out the fact that you "have been researching this stuff". its a sad fact you had to "research" the word vicarious. you look a fool. you deserve everything these people are giving you.

I fucking told him (the almighty TREXOR) that this would happen... How could you doubt for a second that "Vicarious" was the single when it's in rotation (for better or worse) on every Clear Channel modern/alternative rock station across the US??? Sayonara to the very definition of a "tool".

aye aye aye. i haven't posted since yesterday. i have not fled. i looked up vicarious, because i was interested. and yes of course, numb is not the antonym of vicarious, because vicarious is more specific, so more so numb to other people's feelings. and i'm still waiting till coachella. either way, it's always been a lose/lose situation for me. either there's a good album and we live in a crappy world or there's a crappy album and we live in a crappy world. doesn't make a difference to me. we'll see.

^ hehe, oh man. Trexor, you really are dumb. I cant believe you stood your ground that long. Plain and simple, the album is out, and the track listings are the same. Same songs, same album as the leak, next.

"Blood like rain come down.
Drown on grave and ground."

This song is so weak. I mean, the music is cool, with all the complicated time signatures and crap, but the whole concept reminds me of something a freshman poli-sci major would write. Actually, that's probably where Tools target audience is. It's chock full of "neat" metaphores like "junkies" and "vampires" to describe the human race and it's consumption of the media, but it doesn't really make sense.
Wait, I would expect it to make sense to you, so before you say it, just shutup and go to the next post. You can't handle this. I don't want to hear your over-zealous defense to your vicarious addiction to Maynard's fabled acuity.
If people consumed media to fulfill some inborn need to see death, as Maynard asserts, then why does virtually every commercially sucessful movie produced end with a happy ending? And why does the news (probably the real focus of the song), despite it's reporting negative events, always contain more "facts", like weather or current events, than "death" and "bloodshed"? Wouldn't it be more rational to say that people watch the news to stay informed, and therefore keep themselves more aware of society?

These lyrics are esoteric at best, like most of Tools lyrics, except these symbols aren't as interesting as, say, an fist-fuck in the ass. I mean, he used "zombies". Come on.
