Lyrics for Incinerate as interpreted by rather_dirty_nation

Incinerate Lyrics
[Thurston]

I ripped your heart out from your chest
Replaced it with a grenade blast

Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate

The firefighters hose me down
I don't care, I'll burn out anyhow
It's four-alarm girl, nothing to see
Hear the sirens come for me
You doused my soul with gasoline
You flicked a match into my brain

Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate

The firefighters are so nice
I remember you so cold as ice
The flames are licking at your feet
The sirens come to put me me out of misery
You wave your torch into my eyes
Flamethrower lover burning mind

Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate
Incinerate

This song leads me to believe that the new album will be quite promising. And that there is still sound out there meant for our ears. Great song though, with amazing lyrics, but what else could you expect from Sonic Youth. Glad to see Sonic Youth is still going strong.

How can they keep putting out amazing stuff like this? First Murray Street, then Sonic Nurse, and now "Incinerate" shows a lot of promise. Can't wait for the new LP.

wonderful lyrics and a wonderful song on top of that.

to me it sounds like there's this guy who can't get rid of a memory (of a girl) and he's burning out because he obsesses about it all the time. i probably interpret it that way because i'm the guy who's burning out right now.

I always thought this song was about a guy who kills his girlfriend and tries to burn her body.

I agree with proxima on this one. The guy can't get rid of a memory, and its burning him down because he still possesses passion, or "fire" for the girl, but she doesn't want him back. ("you doused my soul with gasoline", "the sirens are coming to put me out of misery")

Besides all the allusions to fire, the song still manages to burn within us.

Lee Renaldo and Thurston Moore are easily the best "guitar-duo" to ever exist. The back to back guitar riffs in this song are just genius. Not to mention the guitar solo makes my heart race. Excellent, excellent song.

Awesome song, but man would it benefit with some distortion, some production - anyone with me here?

when i first listened to the lyrics it sounded like he orchestrated a fire to kill off his wife. He escaped while his wife died. I mean, metaphorical firefighters sound kind of retarded, so i'm assuming he means real ones literally putting out his house, spraying him down, and consoling him when they find his dead burnt wife.

if the band's lyricist jumped off the brooklyn bridge, this might be the greatest band in history.

every word spoken, however, makes me want to die.

it seems like he's singing about a girl he is obsessed with in some way... maybe because she dumped him and he can't get her off of his mind. obviously there's anger in the lyrics. in any case, i think he is FANTASIZING about killing her.

he needs to extinguish this fire... he's burning, and she's so cold... thats the funny part, she's ice and makes he burns... but after all the firefighters are nice, and they will end with this fire..

Who else hears the resemblance to The Clash - Lost In The Supermarket?

I agree with the notion that this song is about a guy who is consumed with thoughts of a girl he's in love with and just can't escape. He is 'burning out', or starting to be deeply affected with negativity and a shroud of darkness because of this.
