Can I lift my dress up for you?
Can I lift it in the night?
White undersides of my thighs look much better
In the dark light

There’s a kid in there
And he’s big, and dumb,
And he’s… kinda scared
Well, he’s too old to be there

And he’s just looking for a ride.

Well, I’ll lift it to the ceiling tiles
Of stadiums and shrines
You see something to cheer about
I’ll tell you that it’s mine
I’m sorry that your mother died
But that one wasn't my fault
I’m sorry anybody dies at all these days

Oh I see the night…
With my own two eyes.

    Lyric Correction:Just a little correction:

Well, I’ll lift it to the ceiling TIES
    Of stadiums and shrines
IF you see something to cheer about
I’ll tell you that it’s mine

The correct expression is "ceiling ties" which are the joists that hold any ceiling up.

General Comment:Just wanted to point out that the "kid" who is "just looking for a ride" is probably the same kid from "They Took a Vote and Said No," the opening lyrics of which are "He's just a kid, he wants a ride."

General Comment:ohhh....love when everybody kicks back in near the end of the song, y'know... after the line "....dies at all these days" then they progression and then BAM!!! ...it's been done before but not quite like that.. anyway this song... the speaker... very insecure... physically and emotionally... inexperienced, like a kid... hmm he says the kid's too old to be there.... he didnt say that HE's too old for the kid to be there.. thats significant... though i cant really interpret it further... anybody else wanna?

General Comment:My post has nothing to do with the meaning of this song, just here to say that it is one of the songs that inspires me.

General Comment:It's "dark light", it's clearly what he says and it makes the most sense. Don't question it.

General Comment:This song reminds me of the book Flowers For Algernon, where Charlie, the main character, is unable to have sex with his romantic interest because he is emotionally immature. Charlie's emotionally stunted self is often referred to as some big, dumb, scared kid.

Just an interesting coincidence that I saw.
