Lyrics for Stadiums And Shrines II as interpreted by Clap Your Hands

Stadiums And Shrines II Lyrics
Can I lift my dress up for you?
Can I lift it in the night?
White undersides of my thighs look much better
In the dark light

There’s a kid in there
And he’s big, and dumb,
And he’s… kinda scared
Well, he’s too old to be there

And he’s just looking for a ride.

Well, I’ll lift it to the ceiling tiles
Of stadiums and shrines
You see something to cheer about
I’ll tell you that it’s mine
I’m sorry that your mother died
But that one wasn't my fault
I’m sorry anybody dies at all these days

Oh I see the night…
With my own two eyes.

Just a small correction to the line;
I’ll stay —- in a trance
You see something to reach about

I think it's actually
Old stadiums and shrines
You see something to cheer about...

Anyways...great great song

Wow, i've literally been listening to the 30 second tease for this song on itunes ever since the album came out in early May. Something dreamy and majestic in Krug's howling voice...i couldn't pick up the album until i got back from college, but damn was it worth the wait

Thanks Tavs, edited it. I took all the lyrics from a fansite and didn't look over them beforehand, just wanted to get them up here.

the line "I'm sorry your mother died" could be referring to Dan Boeckner (sp?) of Wolf Parade whose mother died and whose death was the inspiration for "This Heart's on Fire". Just speculating. Probably not, but this line just made me think of that song.

I think it's about hiding one's feelings and the weird social graces of society....

This song reminds me of the book Flowers For Algernon, where Charlie, the main character, is unable to have sex with his romantic interest because he is emotionally immature. Charlie's emotionally stunted self is often referred to as some big, dumb, scared kid.

Just an interesting coincidence that I saw.

It's "dark light", it's clearly what he says and it makes the most sense. Don't question it.

My post has nothing to do with the meaning of this song, just here to say that it is one of the songs that inspires me.

ohhh....love when everybody kicks back in near the end of the song, y'know... after the line "....dies at all these days" then they progression and then BAM!!! ...it's been done before but not quite like that.. anyway this song... the speaker... very insecure... physically and emotionally... inexperienced, like a kid... hmm he says the kid's too old to be there.... he didnt say that HE's too old for the kid to be there.. thats significant... though i cant really interpret it further... anybody else wanna?

It's about someone losing their virginity.
