I think it means that he keeps a picture or memory of her wherever he goes. He's not literally putting a picture of her in his shoes, but thinking about her always.

Those lyrics make me smile because Schuyler is a singer/songwriter as well. I really love how smitten he seemed to be with her...and no wonder why, she's a down-to-earth beauty who writes some beautiful music as well.
